Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN Source: Eric Smith suffered a MCL injury to his left knee. Out for the rest of the preseason. #nyj http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/je...for-the-rest-of-the-preseason-with-mcl-injury
Tough break. Hopefully we'll be healthy by Week 1. If Eric's hurt, what happens when Landry gets hurt?
all good..he's not lost for the season and we have depth at the position...luckily we arent relying on him to be a full time starter.. landry and bell are our starters...allen in particular will do just fine filling in for a game or so in smiths spot if needed and if he plays well enough will take snaps away from smith. and since everyone hates smith whats the big deal right?
To be honest, I think I'd rather see Bush or Allen in there. I can't remember the last time I saw Eric Smith make a good play (that didn't later end up as an unnecessary roughness). For as smart as everyone says he is, he always seems lost and out of position.
Smith is a very good Special teams player. Sad to see him go down especially after suffering through injuries all last year.
Tough break. Eric Smith the man of much ridicule here. I dont think hes all that bad and plays a helluva special teams. Get well soon.
As per ROTOWORLD The New York Daily News reports Jets S Eric Smith is dealing with a left MCL injury, and is out for the rest of the preseason. Smith suffered knee and hip injuries in Friday's preseason opener, but an MRI of his hip revealed no structural damage. Per beat writer Manish Mehta, the Jets are "hoping" Smith will be ready for Week 1. It's a big concern for the Jets, who are easing in the fragile LaRon Landry at strong safety. Smith made 14 starts a season ago, but is expected to rotate snaps with Yeremiah Bell. Had Smith's injury occurred a week ago, the Jets may have explored a reunion with Jim Leonhard, who signed with the Broncos last Saturday.
Sucks that he's hurt, but couldnt happen at abetter time! At least the rookies will get some extra snaps, incase smith isnt ready come week 1, or incase Landry goes down
