    Tough break.

Hopefully we'll be healthy by Week 1. If Eric's hurt, what happens when Landry gets hurt?

Allen & Bush could see more snaps than anticipated.

Can they really be that much worse than what we had at safety last year?

all good..he's not lost for the season and we have depth at the position...luckily we arent relying on him to be a full time starter..

landry and bell are our starters...allen in particular will do just fine filling in for a game or so in smiths spot if needed and if he plays well enough will take snaps away from smith.

and since everyone hates smith whats the big deal right? :)

To be honest, I think I'd rather see Bush or Allen in there. I can't remember the last time I saw Eric Smith make a good play (that didn't later end up as an unnecessary roughness).

For as smart as everyone says he is, he always seems lost and out of position.

This brings up a great question: Which is better? A healthy Eric Smith or an injured Eric Smith?

Smith is a very good Special teams player. Sad to see him go down especially after suffering through injuries all last year.

My thinking exactly. I guess Antonio Allen or Josh Bush will need to step it up.

I hope this opens the door for one of the rookies to step up.

    As per ROTOWORLD

The New York Daily News reports Jets S Eric Smith is dealing with a left MCL injury, and is out for the rest of the preseason.
Smith suffered knee and hip injuries in Friday's preseason opener, but an MRI of his hip revealed no structural damage. Per beat writer Manish Mehta, the Jets are "hoping" Smith will be ready for Week 1. It's a big concern for the Jets, who are easing in the fragile LaRon Landry at strong safety. Smith made 14 starts a season ago, but is expected to rotate snaps with Yeremiah Bell. Had Smith's injury occurred a week ago, the Jets may have explored a reunion with Jim Leonhard, who signed with the Broncos last Saturday.

Smith's MCL (melanin collateral ligament) isn't white if that's what you're asking.

Sucks that he's hurt, but couldnt happen at abetter time! At least the rookies will get some extra snaps, incase smith isnt ready come week 1, or incase Landry goes down
