we need guys who can play at WR. we have talent, but we need guys who can make an impact now. Holmes is our best player, our biggest diva, is banged up, and hasnt really proven he can be a legit #1 with no one else opposite him. Hill is raw, unpolished, and rookies usually take 3 years to be able to be decent starters, let alone guys who never played in a pro system. white is the same, only injured and may not make the squad. chaz shilens is basically a poor mans stephen hill, who didnt pan out. patrick turner is more of a 3rd option at wideout or somone you give 15 snaps too. with a mediocure oline and these options at WR i really dont see how we can have an effective passing game. even if we get another step up bu sanchez and a new offense geared more off playaction and his strengths.
Holmes is a far better route runner than Harvin I think. Not to mention more polished. Harvin's got dat speed and acceleration that's his only advantage. Holmes is an enigma which clouds our judgement.
Harvin vs Holmes. Id take Harvin every day of the week, month and year. Holmes hasnt really shown hes capable of handling the #1 WR duty. Without a decent supporting cast I look for much of the same that I saw last year from him a lazy crybaby waiting to explode.
I know rite Holmes definitely cant handle being a #1 Its not like hes ever done anything to prove otherwise
If all of the coverage rolled to you and frustrated you week in and week out, you would be complaining also. If you don't have other WRs that can get separation from their defenders, they are usually worthless on the field, unless your Plax and you can just outreach anyone in the RZ. Remember how useless he was between the 20s? It's not that they need someone to stretch the field, but they need someone to keep the defense honest. So that when they roll the coverage over to Holmes, the other WR along with Keller would light them the fuck up. If you didn't notice we didn't have that last season. Sanchez has deep ball ability, and they didn't take advantage of it last season - so they need to do so this season. He's a great play-action QB, that can make throws down the field. It's time we take advantage of the players' strengths and incorporate them into the playbook. Schotty never did that did he?
1 catch equals a proven #1 WR....... Wow......you have a very low ceiling of expectations from players.
I take it you haven't watched Harvin play on a consistent basis. Harvin is an absolute beast. Anything Holmes can do, Harvin does better. It's just a fact. Harvin speed > Holmes Harvin quickness > Holmes Harvins moves > Holmes Harvins vision > Holmes Harvins ability to take over a game > Holmes And this is not a knock on Holmes. If you think Harvin is speed and speed only you are sorely mistaken.
The real question to me is it worth the price that would be asked of the Jets? And its going to take some serious picks. I think it is and here's why. #1 the cap opens up next year so we can be aggressive in FA #2 what are the Jets going to draft that would have a bigger impact than Harvin + FA signings. Harvin is only now entering his prime. #3 We can offload Cro to free up space to sign him long term. And it's worth it. The Jets would have a dominant set of 3 WRs in Holmes, Harvin and Hill with YOUTH. We didn't draft Kyle Wilson in the first round to be a nickel back. To me, it's a no brainer assuming the Vikes will listen.
I don't think Holmes was even the #1 in 2008. Ward was always the #1 target when they played together, Holmes had better YPC though. Holmes has only been a #1 WR since arriving in NY and he was out performed by a slightly above average TE in one of his two seasons there. edit: and in his first season in Ny he was out performed by Edwards. edit2: Keller and LT also had equal or more catches/targets
I disagree in offloading Cro we have the best CB tandem in the league. Wilson isnt as good as everyone thought he was.
Yeah, I never understood why they paid him so much after the Steelers were probably ecstatic to get a 5th for someone who had a ton of baggage.
This is true and when Braylon Edwards played here you saw what a complete #1 WR was. Holmes is not. Because we overpaid him certain fans here think hes God.
He hasn't been given the chance. Bottom line is having to re-up Revis, Cro means way too much money at the CB position. And guess what. It's resulting in us being thin at WR....Without CRO the Jets could have possibly made a run at VJAX or another top option. Or... Would equal Harvin. Think of it this way. Is our TEAM better off with adding a Harvin or by keeping a Cro.
1)you clearly dont understand how the cap works/changes. The cap is slowly increasing and our cap situation SUCKS for next year. We can make some moves, but nothing drastic. We also have no lg/rg/rt under contract 2) Someone that will be on our team for at least 5 years at a cap friendly #, instead of a guy that we cant afford to resign 3) This team depends on its corners alot more than its receivers To me its a no brainer that trading an early pick for Harvin would be the most absolutely fucking retarded move this franchise could do right now, outside of guarenteeng the last few years of Holmes contract.
If Wilson was decent they wouldnt have went after Aso and then Cro. Im not all impressed with Kyle Wilson for anything but a nickel. Wasnt Wilson supposed to return kicks and punts here too?
Pace,Thomas and others will surely be goners freeing up cap space others could restructure. Rex is defensive minded football coach the main reason Sparano was brought in.
