Fostering continuity i can agree with, but not developing talent.
They lost 3 veteran WR's to free agency last year.
They drafted a WR last year, and 2 more this year, while bringing in a FA with high upside on the cheap. How much more can they do to re-stock a WR position on a run first team? I'm actually more upset at not addressing the RT position, which is much more important for how they want to play. At WR i feel they are not spectacular, but adequate with nice upside.

btw, Holmes did not break a rib, and should be fine.

I get your line of thinking, but I think you're missing the point. Holmes is the only proven NFL-caliber receiver on the team, the drop-off in talent is pretty steep. They need Holmes on the field if they want a shot at a respectable passing game, without him things would get REALLY ugly.

No, I get the point. I thought I explained my point of view pretty well. I get that most will disagree.

What the hell was Rex talking about?

Holmes' rib was visibly "sticking out," according to coach Rex Ryan

Sounds like a joke, especially seeing how his rib isn't actually broken.

He's looking for a payday, so that would be pricy.

I like this. Somebody, has a big opportunity now. Plax is still a free agent for vet minimum. He's a great blocker On the outside and we all know a Big target in the red zone.

If/when holmes comes back he should be hungry.

He was completely useless outside of the redzone. We don't need to be slow and old.

It may be our only option at this point and time. Other than T.O there is no one else available.

We need a WR. We are a running football team with play action pass. Hill is young he can run the deep routes. Plax is seasoned he can lay wood on little corners and be a threat in the redzone. The strategy for us this year will be all about field position and dominating defense. Wear our opponents down yard by yard.

I'm not going to get upset bc tone is gone. Tone, hasn't shown me much in overcoming adversity. It's hard to believe that he was once instrumental in winning a championship.

    MIKE SIMS WALKER

27 year old receiver who looked like he was on the verge of becoming a quality NFL wideout with good combination of size and speed. He hasn't been able to latch on to a team after fizzling out in St.Louis and getting hurt in Jacksonville after getting injured.

Holmes will be fine and the extra reps for all the young WRs will be beneficial. I think Turner might really show up this year. Turner is 6-5 and has good chemistry with Mark..he played well last when asked. Also Jordan White has a hell of a resume and this is the time he could show the coaching staff that he can make it in the NFL

Mike Sims Walker was on the up and up a couple of years ago and could be a nice value pick up right now..I think we should at least consider it.

Oh yeah 100% correct because cutting him and braylon would have been the far better idea.

Oh or even better yet let holmes walk and keep the guy who got a the dwi, was involved in a club stabbing and then wrecked his car at 100mph (all in one season) then had the balls to hold out for a high end contract would have been the perfect choice.

This thread is like Groundhog Day. I read the same posts over and over about Edwards and Holmes.

It's funny how people are trying to argue we should have kept Braylon and traded Holmes now. The real answer was we shouldn't have chased Nnamdi and gotten Bray and Holmes quickly. Not one over the other.

Except they aren't built to be a run-first team anymore. They don't have the backs, blocking TEs, road-grading OL, etc. If they had restocked those positions I could agree with this, but seeing the direction this offense as a unit seems to be going makes it hard to think of them as a run-first team.

I think the real issue is that they haven't had much success on these low-round draft picks at the WR position/haven't tried to bring in young talent for the WR corps with success. Kerley is the only successful infusion of talent and youth outside of drafting Brad Smith (I'm going to wait on this year before declaring Holmes overall a successful or unsuccessful move).

Using Eli Manning as an example (because everyone seems to like drawing parallels between the two), he was given consistency in his top two WR from 2005 until 2008. Now they can shuffle around the WRs as needed because Eli is developed as a player and doesn't need excess time to build a rapport with his wideouts. I don't see the Jets doing that with Sanchez and I don't think it's a good thing.

Getting back to the topic at hand, I don't think this WR group is built to help move the offense and put points on the board in an especially effective fashion. I also think this group is one Holmes injury away from being downright rough.

Yeah, Mike Sims Walker is a good idea. I also think it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring back Burress provided he's willing to play for cheap; he's a damn good run blocking WR and Burress at WR and Tebow at Wildcat QB is a pretty nasty one-two punch in the redzone.

I wasn't impressed by Burress' blocking last year. Mostly because he didn't seem to be a willing blocker. When he actually put effort forth, yea, he was a good blocker. Too many times you saw him standing there watching while a run was happening in his area of the field.

Plus Plax stayed healthy last year and already knows his teammates and how to play with Sanchez. Its a different offense this year with the coaching change but he does know his teammates for better or worse.
