What are the conditions of the pick we traded? Suppose he passes the physical and only plays in 3 games all year. Does that mean we still lose the pick or is there a clause that he has to play a certain amount of minutes?
I don't think anyone knows the conditions. I would imagine he'd have to play in at least a few games.
The fact that it is conditional would probably mean they get a 7th at best if he only plays in 3 games, maybe nothing at all. At lkeast you would hope GM of the Century structured it that way.
The best they are getting is the 7th round pick if he stays around. That's why the pick is conditional. There's no way this guy is costing the Jets more than a 7th round pick even if he sticks. Basically the Panthers wanted to dump him becasue they had already decided he wasn't gonna pass their physical. They coughed up a conditional 7th for Murphy so they decided to try and get one back. The Jets took a flyer on this guy to see if a change of scenery (and their staff and players) might get him to actually try to get in football shape. The panthers gave up. It's was certainly worth a shot, because they have nothing to lose if he doesn't pan out, and plenty to gain if he does.
That's probably a joke, because there would be no trade at all unless he passes his physical. So the word 'conditional' wouldn't be mentioned at all.
Thanks for posting this. I just can't get excited about this guy. An injury prone player who isn't mentally tough isn't appealing. I've said it before, but I really can't believe it's this difficult to get a player who can compete with WFH.
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN I've been told that the Jets will not be keeping OT Jeff Otah. #nyj Source: Jets won't be keeping OT Jeff Otah BY MANISH MEHTA The Daily News has learned that the Jets won't be keeping offensive tackle Jeff Otah. The Jets acquired Otah on a conditional basis in a trade with the Panthers last week. Per terms of the trade, Otah, who has played only four games during the past two seasons due to knee issues, needed to pass a physical within seven days of him reporting to the team. The Jets were going to give up a conditional seventh-round pick for Otah. The deadline to pass that physical was Tuesday. Otah was expected to provide competition for the much maligned Wayne Hunter for the starting right tackle job. Now, it appears that Hunter will be the starter at the start of the season
Great, stuck with the human turnstyle again this year. His fat, dumb ass better have learned how to get in the way or something.
