No, thats not my argument..brady was an instant sucess, from the minute he entered the game he was sucessfull...my argument is that some guys take time to develope, something people around here dont seem to understand. Everyone wants now...and sometimes its not about that its about becoming better. The reason why me and so many other people use the Eli as an example is because he was putrid...people thought he was gonna be a bust after 2 years of terrible football...hell all the way up to his 4th year and then he finally turned the corner...started slowing things down a bit and not making costly turnovers as much(and he still had 20ints)...and thats what im waiting to see...and that takes time.
take away being a jets fan and look at sanchez overall performance over 3 years of being a bottom third tier qb. people keep bringing up his playoff stats and they're really just game manager numbers. the jets made it to the 2 afc championship games because of the defense. sure, sanchez stepped up his play in some playoff games, but his #'s had nowhere else to go but up. teams expected the jets to run and sanchez threw some key passes against teams playing the run. he did ok, but it's been over blown how much effect sanchez had on the wins. jets were contenders because of the defense. last year the defense slid some and we all saw sanchez didn't have the ability to make up the difference! hense why we see tebow in green!
your point is valid and i would think its fair to say that any young qb with a strong defense is a plus and i would agree that the defense and running game did help carry us to the playoffs, but like you said u have to credit Sanchez on the plays he did step up on...there arent many qbs in the league that are gonna carry the whole team thats why its callled a team sport, and those plays you see when Sanchez does look good is what u hope he can start to do more consistantly...i would think its fair to say that if there is no major upgrade in his proformance this year will be make or break hense why tebow is in Green! (and he can run a mean option)
i just see some people touting sanchez playoff performance as being clutch play, when infact it is such a small sample, and he did not step up in the acf championship games when it mattered. he played ok during a couple playoff games, but it was still the running game and defense that won them. overall, sanchez has not been very good and it's exactly why tebow was aquired.
His point isn't valid. He's a stupid Patriots "fan" that has nothing better to do than to troll a Jets message board.
People tout Sanchez's playoff performance as being clutch because it WAS. He played well in the 2009 playoffs and then out performed both Manning and Brady in 2010. If the defense could have stopped a nosebleed against the Steelers it's very possible the Jets win the AFCCG. To down play Mark's playoff games is idiotic at best.
I think Sanchez's YPA was 6.71 and 6.49 in his seasons with Edwards, still close to the bottom of the league. You are right though, he def made a difference as his YPA was its lowest ever last year without Edwards. Now I'm sure Schotty has a good amount to do with this, but Cam Cameron isn't exactly loved in Baltimore either these days.
his point is valid on the fact that the defense and run game easily propelled us into the playoffs in year one. Even the biggest Jets fan cant deny that, but once we were in the playoffs Sanchez was clutch. I am a huge Sanchez supporter and there doesnt seem to be to many of those these days.
Edwards was a huge missing piece last season, but i would agree shottys play calling was probably the the main reason for no deep threat last year.
How can you blame Schotty for no deep threat. Holmes is double teamed and Plaxico is slower then any corner in the NFL right now. Kerley is a rookie slot receiver. We had 0 deep threat receivers. Maybe we could have had a couple more deep catches but what is the point of calling a lot of deep passes when you are very rarely successful.
I agree we didnt have a much options to throw deep to, but you gotta throw deep if you wanna spread the opposing D...
and i would say your right, Sanchez played better is second year...i even thought he progressed last year, but no one wants to believe that because of turnovers and we didnt make the playoffs...the proof is in the numbers look at all 3 years hes gotten better.
He did progress last year. The last 4 games makes it look like he didn't or that he took steps back, but when you include the entire season, and add in the fact that he took a pounding and was injured you come to the conclusion that while the results were worse, he did in fact improve. Albeit, slightly where as year 2 was a big step forward. I believe with an improved & healthy OL, improved receivers and a healthy Sanchez, Mark will have a big year this season.
Odd question for you then. If you truly believe he is doing nothing but trolling, why didn't you ban him? You are a mod after all.
I don't see much reason for optimism. In fact the Jet OL was playing better as the season went on. Mangold was healthy, Moore was playing better, and Moore plays alongside Hunter. In fact it is fair to say that Hunter looked a bit better, too, as the year went by. Meanwhile Sanchez sucked down the stretch.
Sanchez was sacked 14 times down the stretch (last 4 games). Brick was completely owned by Babin in the Eagles game. Sanchez got killed in the Denver and Baltimore game. Sanchez got absolutely destroyed last year.
lets be real here that line never geled last year...it was poor at pass blocking and run blocking. Dont get me wrong it looked decent at times but Sanchez was under pressure 80% of the time.
If the whole offense could gel a little we could easily be in the playoffs even with Sanchez only rising to the level of average QB as a game manager.
The Ravens and Denver games were not during the stretch. Sacks for Sanchez are not a great metric for judging the OL because he holds onto the ball too often. As I have noted many times the Jet OL looks much better if you look at Qb hits rather than sacks. I didn't mention Ferguson down the stretch, but he was only one of five starters. I do think the others, like I said particularly Mangold Moore and even Hunter, looked better later in the season.
