You might be shocked but I agree with about everything you said. I don't know how they had any idea that DT was capable of being a number one receiver however. He was hurt his whole rookie season and hadn't practiced much at the start of last season. He had just healed from another surgery if I recall. His first start was the week Tebow started. He had actually less time on the field than Tebow. That said I think he is a hell of a talent. That's why he was a number one pick. I am hoping Hill has some of the same skills. Just to clarify some of my previous posts because some didn't seem to get this - I think there is a difference in trading Royal to intentionally hurt the team (which I don't believe) and doing it because you don't really care anymore and have given up on the season (which I think happened).
Yeah, I felt we were both pretty much in agreement, which is why I posted that last reply (except I think you meant Lloyd, not Royal in that last sentence. Royal finished last season as a Bronco before being traded to SD in March). Lloyd will do fine with the Pats, because they won't put up with his diva-ness.
did you mean brandon lloyd? because Royal was never the #1 and he signed with the chargers this year. he ABSOLUTELY would have refused to play..the guy is a total ass-hat. either that or he would have just mailed it in and made Tebow look even worse. And they didn't trade him to make him happy ..he is a CANCER in the locker room... the Anti-Tebow if you will. Lazy, with a bad attitude. Trading Lloyd did nothing to hurt Tebow's chances of being better. Just another excuse in a long line of them.
It's not an excuse to say they traded away their number one. It's a simple fact. Lloyd helped Orton's stats by making several circus catches and he could've done the same for Tebow. Not saying he would have "made Tebow better," but the Broncos receivers did drop more than their share of catchable balls. Little doubt Tebow would've been closer to 50% with Lloyd there. That would've been 10 more completions on the year or .71 more catches per game on average. Again, that wouldn't have "made Tebow better," but it would've improved his stats and possibly the perception a bit. Then again maybe it was a favor, Tebow should have no illusions that he has to make some pretty big improvements to be taken seriously as a QB, much less a potential starter.
Oh yeah, that shortened offseason and abbreviated TC as a 2nd/3rd stringer was sooooo beneficial. BTW, did you miss where I put up Tebow's stats through his first 15 starts and compared them to Sanchez's SECOND YEAR stats ? Yep, Tebow's stats compared pretty favorably to them as well.
Just for kicks, I have highlighted the items on your list that Tebow can do, and usually do pretty well. Let's take them from the top. 1. Tebow certainly has the arm strength to "make all the throws". What he lacks is the ability to do it consistently. That's a result of learning new mechanics. 2. "NFL accurate" - nope, not at this point, and questionable in the future. 3. Pocket presence - this one is "kind of yes, kind of no". There are times where he will sit in the pocket and wait for a play to develop, and even take the hit while throwing the ball. Other times, he'll scramble and get flushed from the pocket when he should just step forward or to one side of the other. I guess my point would be that he doesn't get spooked in the pocket like Blaine Gabbert seemed to have trouble with last year. He'll stand in there and take the hit if he sees the play in his mind. Problem is, as a young QB, he has trouble seeing plays develop (anticipating). 4. Recognize mismatches. Yes, he does this pretty well, just ask Pitt 5. Recognize blitzes. Seriously ? Ask Eric Smith and Rex about this one 6. Recognize zone over man. By and large, yes, he can figure that out. Now, recognizing one zone from another ?? BTW, this is something that even veteran QBs have trouble with. I mean, Peyton Manning still throws interceptions due to misreading defensive coverages 7. Make plays outside the pocket. Again, you can ask Rex and the Jets defense, or Minnesota's defense, or the Bear's
I like how no one responds to my last post because they can’t....you guys really miss Vanderbilt....you guys should start a petition drive to get him back on here...hey Metsjets are you not in advertising? maybe you could put an ad out for Vanderbilt?
Actually you are right. they just say things like, "Nobody in the NFL has ever seen anything like Tebow and I promise that he will outwork everyone, he was the greatest college player of all time, he did this he did that, he improves teams and people just be being near them." Youre right very few have ever called him great, but that doesn't mean the hyperbole surrounding a back up QB isnt annoying and ridiculous. Tebow>>>>>> Tebow's Fans
I agree with this. He is so used to making things happen with his legs he too often extends a play that should have been made or he bails to try and make something happen. That has been a significant quality he has in football but he will have to change and become more comfortable in the pocket in the NFL if he wants a starting QB job on a consistent basis. It might be a tough conversion for him. I think he can although I'm not sure and others say no way no how. That's the difference.
Nobody here may have said that (although at some point I seem to remember it being said here) but I remember lots of other fans saying it, especially in the IQ-suppressing ESPN comments. Honestly I'd rather hear people say he's a superb QB than stuff like: he is a proven winner, makes teams better just by showing up, has been winning since pee wee, performed a miracle in Denver, etc.
So, you would rather hear people say something that's not true at this point, than things that are actually true ? Interesting.
People say no way no how because he has not shown that he can at all. That is the problem with Tebow he has not shown he can stand in the pocket and delivery accurate throws. That is how you become a Qb in the NFL. It has been done before Steve Mcnair, Randall Cunningham, Michael Vick, D. Mcnabb etc. All these Qbs at least demonstrated they can make the throws from the pocket Tebow has not demonstrated that at all. Tim most likely will get another chance but it will not be in NY. To get that chance Tim will need to show significant improvement as a pocket passer.
Now you went to the point of contention again. lol He has shown he can do it numerous times. He had one of the best QB rating in the 4th quarter last year. He just hasn't shown it on a consistent basis and he may never - I don't know. I just don't ignore everything he has done and say he never has. I could point out numerous pocket passes he nailed last year. He was just never consistent and at times did look bloody awful. His first playoff game was very good. "Not demonstrated it at all.." is just not accurate IMO. Other than that I agree with your conclusion of what he needs to do.
