Really. If the coaching staff had to sit here digest and rebut every stupid NY Media fishing trip then the team would be in deep crap...

To coaches stories like this are comedy.

I said this from day 1, It's written as if the mediot has little to no knowledge of the workings of a football team....But, what it does is allows the mediot to open up his pre-programmed basket of Santonio crap from last year and continue on the Cancer agenda.

I don't blame Tone at all for Ducking the media - If I were a player I'd hate the media with a passion....

How the hell do these mediots hang around a team where the majority think they are panzies just looking to spin and turn whatever they say into some worst possible scenario cancerous Time bomb???

I couldn't do their job - I would never want to be forced to become paparrazi / TMZ and chase and spin stoies and then act all buddy buddy... I'd rather be a draft blogger who watches tape and really studies THE GAME and not the BS.

    Huh???

Rex said at the time that it was nothing and that they encourage players to sit out if they feel tight.....

Pretty much what Sanjay just said except the part where he was shocked at the NY Media for blowing something out of proportion.... I really don't think that shocks Rex as much any more.

This was not a normal story, this was about the guy who was given the most blame for the LR troubles a year ago who missed the first 2 OTA sessions(doing something good) and made his ebut w/ the helmet tossing incident. This was big news around the Jets and should have been address immediately.

Rex never brought up the policy that lal discussed, he basically said he discussed it w/ Holmes and Lal after the incident.

I get the impression Holmes haters take their "news" about him uncritically, whereas most Jet fans know to be critical and skeptical about press coverage of the Jets. So why assume that the press accurately reports on Holmes?

Sure he did - I understood it 100%..... Profesional Athletes at this time of the year should be able to monitor where they are health wise and not have some Dip Shit mediot throw CANCER in his face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

REX RYAN (NY JETS HEAD COACH) “We are not here to push you over, ‘Oh, you can do that.’ These are professional athletes. They know their bodies. Santonio knows his body better than anybody, obviously,” said Ryan. “If he thinks he’d be stretching it to give five or 10 extra reps, you have to be smart about it.”

And who the hell Gave Tone "the most blame" for last year????? THE MEDIOTS that's who.... Anyone who knows the game and watched what happened would describe to you an entire TEAM that fell apart - an OL that was decimated at times, a QB that in turn was dinged and shellshocked, an offense without a deep threat, a Running game that took a step back and a play caller out of his mind.... Oh yea and a defense that took a step back...

THE ENTIRE TEAM TOOK A STEP BACK.... and yea, top WR was frustrated... Unbelievable - never heard of top WR's wanting the ball or getting frustrated - Ground Breaking!!!

And while we look at Camp we see Tone working with young guys, all smiles, high fiving Rex, All GREAT.... yet, this made up BS story that went thru the Florio network until CANCER was the talking point and Cimini warned "Jets fans should b Very Worried!!!!!!!!!!"

But, Hey Papers were sold and now today they have another article about how crazy the 1st story was - Nothing like a story that keeps on giving - Keep your TONE = CANCER stuff nearby though for next time he spits gum on the sidewalk or doesn't come to a full stop at a stop sign!!!!!

so you were happy w/ santonio on and off the field last year?

If rex had to speak to them about it you don't think he realized there was something to this?

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...io-holmes-gives-jets-glimpse-of-trouble-ahead

I'm not worried about him but I'm not naive either. He shouldn't be throwing his helmet or doing anything like that his first day back after the way last year ended. Everything he does will be blown up and he has to realize this.

Because even the most optimistic Jets fans knows why we were able to get him for close to nothing and watched him self destruct last year in the clutch.

While I agree doesn't this work both ways? I mean, if fans know that everything he does will be blown up then isn't that more reason to think critically of anything that is reported by the media on him?

If fans know he's a POS and the press reports it chances are it's a slow press day and Holmes is still a POS.

I don't think Holmes is a piece of shit, or more accurately any more or less so than your average wideout in the NFL.

He was frustrated by the poor play of the Jets, particularly Sanchez. I was, too.

Yeah, how he handled the frustration was probably not the best of ways which rubs fans the wrong way. Then he gave the media annoying answers in Week 17 and then again in his press conference where he avoided talking about the incident. So the media and fans have a problem with him. He hasn't helped himself shed the label of a diva WR after the Philly game then the Miami game, but the media hasn't helped which is not their job.

Every article needs to be taken with a grain of salt, especially if it is overly positive of negative. It is like how most Jets fans take Rex's praise of players as nothing to get excited about, Tanny saying somebody as staying as nothing to believe in. Negative articles about Holmes are going to be a better story than positive ones. Again Holmes has not helped himself at all, but I think the overreaction to one incident where he was injured was well an overreaction especially by the media. They took the phrase "meltdown" and ran with it even though multiple WR's were injured (which is probably a much bigger concern)

And he acted out in a way that was thoroughly unprofessional and undermined his team moving forward. We know he acted out in the meeting rooms in the final weeks and in the huddle during the last game. We don't know if he was one of Mehta's sources or not so it is unfair to extend the evaluation of his conduct to that level.

Nonetheless he was a lousy teammate last year and his overall performance both on and off the field contributed to the Jets decline instead of helping them persevere through it.

Apparently he managed to do this when Rex wasn't looking....

What're the odds onhim being a captain again this year?

For some strange reason I sympathize with true Jets fans at what may very well be a circus that eclipses the Ringling Brothers Big Show.

This team plays their best when there is a circus atmosphere, last year was the most normal year under rex and they underachieved so be careful what you wish for.

2010 was a circus for sure but we played pretty well on our way to an 11-5 record

I don't recall you complaining about Sanchez and the hotdog incident so much, but then you do have your favorites and favorite targets on the Jets, don't you?

Well, so do most of us, me included.

Holmes contributed far less to last year's poor performance than Sanchez did. Far less.

Anyway, going forward, he's the most talented skill position player on the team. It does nothing to whine about him over and over now. The FO signed him to a big contract and, despite the many ridiculous suggestions made here, apparently didn't even consider trying to move him this off season. Good.

I'll tell you what - if he acts up this year, and I mean really acts up, not just some phony story in the press, despite improved performance by Sanchez, I will move myself to the Holmes Haters camp, so you can look forward to making room for me over there, if you think that will really happen.

I am betting it does not happen. Or more accurately I think even Sanchez Fans will not be blaming Holmes if Sanchez shows no improvement or regresses.

If Darrelle Revis and all his skills was transferred to the offense his name would be Santonio Holmes.

We go from me saying Holmes wasn't THE Main reason for the Jets failures to me being happy?

No. But, I'm not worried about Holmes' talent or conditioning and IMO he will be fine if the TEAM is fine.

As for Rex... Puhlease - this is such a Cimini Mediot made up story - "Mini-Meltdown" puhlease... These players must want to give Cimini a wedgie and hang him from a goal post.

.. And the Offensive line... Which really falls on the Front office last year....

But, Holmes made it clear the OL was playing like shit and HE WAS RIGHT!!!!

The whole team was playing like shit and I felt just like Holmes did. Protect the Qb and get the ball to your playmaker!!!!!!

Really don't think Holmes is a bad guy at all - He just wants to win, he wants to be a focus and He hates the Media... Preach on Tone!
