It's a non-story if he's saying that cause that's what his agent is telling him to say, everything we've heard so far is that Revis is getting ready for the season.. That's all.

Because Revis will be the highest paid player on the roster and if given 16 to 18 mil a year will be an increase of 4-6 mil/yr from what the market predicates he should be making.

Also like I previously said, its not like Revis would be replaced with a corpse. We also dont play Andre/Calvin Johnson every week.

Let me say everything ive said regarding Revis requires a ugly holdout next year with him not budging off a demand of a contract of Calvin Johnson's nature.

I'm not ignorant enough to assume we can replace Revis and save money at the same time.

Just other holes could be addressed to give us depth at other positions, or bring in bonafide pass rushing talent. Which wont completely offset the loss of Revis, but will make it less of a factor.

as far as Ferguson, hes slightly overpaid due to the fact hes not an elite run blocker. but he is by no means playing at a ridiculous contract and is still a top tier pass blocker.

Harris is a poor mans Patrick Willis, hes worth every penny. And being a poor mans Patrick Willis would rank him in the upper echelon of all LBers let alone ILBs in this league.

Sanchez is severely overpaid, will not debate that. thats what happens when you sign a top 5 pick from the pre rookie draft cap era

    he gets paid to.

furthermore he gets paid to do it in NY. and the downside to being that talented with a history of holding out is questions like this constantly answered with ambiguity.

i admit its redundant but thats how it is.

What you should point out to Dick is that the salary cap won't even allow the Jets to redo his contract this year or trade him. Ask him why he hasn't addressed that minor detail.

This is an obvious play by his agents to setup next year, and Dick probably knows that. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Revis' agents put Dick up to it.

If Revis is smart and actually plans to hold out, he'll do it next year instead of this year. If he holds out this year, then how could we possibly accommodate him with our cap figures? It's a guaranteed trade if he holds out this year, probably to a much weaker defense. I doubt Revis wants that. Next year we have much more money to play with, so it would make much more sense, although I hope he actually HONORS his contract this time. He should after what he put us through in 2010, missing half the season because of injuries specifically caused by lack of conditioning. I just wish he didn't have that scumbag agent.

I understand the point you are making, but I just don't find it all that persuasive. Revis is the highest paid player on the team? He also happens to be the best. I think he earns his salary. Some other of the higher paid players do, too, but some, not so much.

My point is that the lack of cap space is not solely attributable to his salary alone.

    Other points:

Imo the two most important players off the bench are your third wideout and your third Cb. They see a lot of action, usually more than any other bench player. On that note, it's great that the Jets have Cro, and Wilson showed some improvement last year, and is a first round pick. Let's say he's ready to start. Who then is the first CB off the bench? In other words, any team with the ability to spread the Jet pass D and the depth to have a decent player at their 3rd wideout will attack the Jets' 3rd Cb if the Jets have to start Wilson. And that's assuming Wilson is up to starting, which last year imo he was not.

If Revis makes an "unreasonable" demand for an increase, of course that could, very well might, change the analysis. Whether that actually happens remains to be seen.

Last point - for all my skepticism about what has been going on with the Jets lately, I understand that Ryan wants to have a D that is based on having two solid CB's who can both play man coverage. I buy into that basic concept. I don't think you have that in effect replacing Revis with Wilson.

Revis is worth every penny at 12/mil a yr.

but you better believe he will be asking to match Fitzgerald/Calvin Johnson contracts.

if he wasnt going to play hardball he wouldnt be posturing himself for a holdout next year.

I dont think anyone would debate whether hes the best player on the team and thus, deserves to be the highest paid.

I guess my question is, how much would you pay revis per year?

I understand Rex's approach to this defense. I dont agree completely seeing that the defenses that win SB's have pass rushers. Rex has good enough CB's that allow average rushers to look above average.

but as evidenced not even Revis can cover people for 5 seconds.

you offset the transition of talent from Revis to Wilson by being able to afford a good pass rusher. thats my point.

it wont completely offset the difference in talent. but I see plenty of starters at CB worse than Wilson across the league.

furthermore I dont care how good your coverage is, its all for naught if you dont have anyone getting in the backfield. The progression of Wilkerson and addition of Coples could very well change that. but Ive seen nothing to guarantee it.

haha you are insane my friend. So when #24 takes out the oppsing teams best WR, its then 10 on 10. Your last sentence is garbage, no way in hell a CB is the 2nd biggest impact position. I dont care if he allows 0 catches all season long, not a bigger impact position then an OL, DE, LB, or todays TE. This position is one of the LEAST impact positions in football. Thats why you trade him. you my friend must wear clown shoes and walk around with rose color glasses with a #24 shirt on.

^seriously? Trade holmes, please, have at it. Revis is a special player who is going to light it up this year. I wish the media would stop stirring the pot and I wish we would stop buying into the bullshit.

This is a non-story 100%. Revis plays for the Jets this year, no question about it. Next year, if and when he holds out, we can get upset about it then.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts

Not sure if you knew this, but interceptions CHANGE games. Shutting down #1 wide outs changes the game, and makes it much more difficult for an offense to succeed against you. In a passing league, passing defense is the most important thing. Obviously it's always more than just the 1 player, this is true for any player on the team. If Sanchez was elite but had a horrible line, he'd go no where. Revis can't demand QB money, he's a CB, but he deserves to the be the highest paid CB, since there's no debate anymore that he's the best in the league by a good margin. I don't agree with holding out, but it is what it is. People just need to stop assuming that he will. Maybe next year.

How do the half dozen of so teams that consistently win more games than the Jets despite not having Darrelle Revis manage to live without him? I just don't get it.

    ^Please answer

    1) Are we a better football team with Revis on the field?
    2) Is Revis signed to play football this year for a reasonable amount of money?
    3) Will Revis honor his contract?
    4) Are we a better football team with Holmes on the field?
    5) Is Holmes signed to play football this year for a reasonable amount of money?
    6) Will Holmes honor his contract?
    7) If you could only have one of the above two mentioned members of the New York Jets on your team, who would you prefer?

Are you honestly implying by your sarcasm that Revis is NOT selfish? You realize he's already held out twice before this, right?
