You keep thinking that, not only is it unlikely but idiotic to even think of such a scenario.

I'm aware how the game is played. Sanchez threw the ball over 500 times last season so it's not as though he didn't get his fair share of attempts. He just didn't complete a high percentage of his throws and didn't get the ball down the field.

Sorry. I should have clarified that this was by QB rating, in which he was bottom 5.

His completion percentage and the inability to stretch the field lies within the offense as a whole, not just Mark Sanchez, and this is what I wish people would understand more of.

First, last season you only got one guy that can truly stretch the field on offense and that was Holmes, you got Keller to get you with the short / intermediate routes and down the seam, but when all of the attention on defense is focused on those two who else do you have?

Plaxico was great in the RZ, but non-existence between the 20s. Kerley is just a slot WR, he's not going to give you that type of production and skill - not when it comes to stretching the defense. Add that with Brian Schottenheimer and you got yourself a disaster on offense. I think the offensive line will be better next season - with a more direct simplified offense that has higher probability in the execution department. Jets offense biggest weakness to me is the inability to execute the offense, ever since Schotty came here, it never came together never looked right and I don't want to bring Favre in this because he was here one year, but Sanchez and Pennington directly it never clicked.

So you bring in a guy that will simplify things, take advantage of the personnel on the football team, and stay true to the running game. The offense will be much better this season for those reasons alone.

If the offense can consistency get in rhythm early in games (first QTR) then I think you'll see Sanchez's completion % go up and with Stephen Hill, whom I think will get like 5 or 6 TDs this season (low amount of catches tho) will take the top off the defense. This will open up things for Keller, Holmes, Kerley to all do what they do best and that's get YAC.

You know what they say about QB rating... Its a great way to judge a QBs play!

It's not coincidence that the elite quarterbacks don't have QB ratings in the 70s. Stats can only be dismissed to a certain point. Things like completion percentage are always going to important when grading a quarterback. It's no coincidence that the players who have finished behind Sanchez in completion percentage the last two year either aren't starters the next year or were rookies (with the exception of Bradford, who was in his 2nd year). Low completion percentage and turnovers is why he had a QB rating in the 70s last year despite the respectable touchdown pass total. Trust me, it's not part of the Jets game plan that Sanchez be inaccurate.

Maybe his completion percentage does go up with someone who can help stretch the field, but it's not as though he was completing a high percentage of his throws with Edwards there. You could actually argue that if they get away from the dink and dunk offense his completion % could take a hit.

It's actually not far-fetched at all, considering that Sanchez is terrible at his job.

Worst origination to develop a young QB ever?

How much more "developing" does a QB entering his 4th year as starter need?

The reason he regressed last year was because he didn't have an elite D and running game to bail him out. Sanchez is the quintessential "dont fuck up" guy. I'm hoping for a McKnight breakout year to save Sanchez's ass. The D will be better. No doubt.

But to ask a pessimistic question, say Sanchez has another shitty year, would you hand him the starting job again? Im more than cool with his nailed to the floor job security this year because of the other options, but if it fails id be vetting draft picks and FA QBs right after the super bowl.

junc if the jets lost a game 73-0 you'd still find some way to say it wasn't that bad, that the jets were still in it and could have won with a play here or there

Sanchez played very well in the 09 and 10 post season but he doesn't get there without the defense, OL and running game. Average QBs have won a Super Bowl so trying to portrait Sanchez as being the reason for the success in January is overstating the truth. Guys like Johnson or Dilfer have a ring but their teams won in spite of them not because of them.

Career numbers of 55.3% comp, 6.5 YPA, 73.2 rating, 55 TDs, 51 Ints and 17 fumbles are nothing more then an average QB.

Sanchize has a noodle arm, plain and simple. Your GM drafted him because he's pretty and has a nice name. When his legs are not under him and he can't step in the pocket, he's done. It says something that his passer rating is great when he's working off playaction. On his own merits as a qb, he's weak.

One thing about him is he is tough as nails. He might be lazy, might be babyish but he is tough. That ngata hit in the small of his back last year could've killed him. He shook it off though.

You don't draft a qb in 5th overall because he's pretty and tough though.

Tebow will be playing by the 6th week.

I totally agree with this, but not with your claim that teams throw because they're behind. This isn't the 1980s when successful teams ran first and only threw a lot when they were behind.

Baltimore and San Fran have OLs built to run the ball, and they both have premier RBs. The Jets have neither, which means that it's unlikely that the Jets will come close to matching either of those teams' success running the ball.

Then how is the Jets OL going to "improve" as so many Jets fans claim it will with Hunter as the RT? The expectation from Jets fans is that coaching alone is going to somehow "fix" the RT situation because the team didn't do anything to upgrade the position in the off-season.

Beats the crap out of wasting picks to trade up to draft a bust ... and then giving him a fat contract that the team can't get out of without taking a big cap hit.

Of course, since Fitzpatrick has had fewer starts than Sanchez, if there's still hope that Sanchez might "get it", there's no reason to believe that Fitzpatrick might not "get it", too. After all, not only did the Bills hire a QB coach to help Fitz with his mechanics, they also run an offense designed to help him succeed.

I think Jets fans who believe that Tebow was only brought in to be a backup/wildcat QB are living in denial. The Jets FO was prepping in the off-season to cut its losses on Sanchez at some point in 2012 unless he produced big time.
    • First, they restructured Sanchez's contract, making it less costly to send him packing.
    • Then they signed Drew Stanton, who has starting experience, as a backup QB in FA.
    • Finally, they traded for Tim Tebow who ended up as the Donkeys' starter last season a week after they signed Stanton.
Teams don't trade for backup QBs in this age of FA. They trade for QBs whom they think may start. The same thing that happened to Kyle Orton in Denver is likely to happen to Mark Sanchez: if the Jets offense sputters at all, the Tebots and other chanters in the crowd will put him on the bench, and eventually off the team.

Sanchez is guarantee $20.5M over the next two years. In what way is that making it less costly to send him packing? Are you really this clueless?

Eli's numbers thru his first 3 seasons were 54.1% comp, 6.3 YPA, 73.2 rating, 54 TDs, 44 INTs. 0-2 in the playoffs.

That's only partly true. A big problem with the Jets NOT stretching the field had to do with Sanchez making one quick read and then dumping off to his check-down receiver. Another problem with Sanchez is that he couldn't find his open receivers and ended up dumping off to his check-downs again. He also missed late on timing patterns, all of which suggest that he has yet to master how to read defenses.

I think this is wishful thinking.
    • The Jets return the same offensive starters with the exception of replacing Buress with Hill. The problem is that Hill is unlikely to be much of a contributor early on; most rookie WRs not named AJ Green aren't.
    • Schottenheimer's offense wasn't "too complicated". This is simply propaganda from some posters on this MB who need a scapegoat. Schotty's offense wasn't "too complicated" to be executed in 2009 or 2010, but suddenly it became "too complicated" in 2011. Right.
    • Nothing in Sparano's resume hints that he's likely to be a good OC.
    • The Jets want to run more but their OL isn't really built for running the ball. The most talented OLers are better pass blockers than run blockers, and there's serious questions about talent at key positions like RT.
    • The Jets don't have a Ray Rice or an Arien Foster or even a Fred Jackson. They have Green, McKnight, and Powell. Great OLs can make lesser RBs look good. Great RBs can make mediocre OLs look good. Mediocre OL and mediocre RBs = 29th ranking for ypc.

The Jets OL will improve simply by having Mangold and Slauson healthy again. Hunter's biggest weakness was in Pass Protection not run blocking, so in playing to his best skill set you will see OL improvement.

What is the better TD:INT ratio - 24:23 or 26:18? Sanchez "gets it" just fine.
