Yes, it is an article of faith among a too large percentage of posters here.

People forget the Jets were 8-3 and had one of the best offenses in the league with Favre here before he got hurt.

People forget Chad won Comeback Player of the Year during Schotty's first year with the Jets.

People may not forget the Jets went to the Champ Game twice with Schotty as the OC, but somehow that was in spite of him, not giving him any credit.

People blame Sanchez throwing passes at defensive linemen on Schotty. Or throwing into triple coverage. Or fumbling the ball away.

People would like to think the Jet offensive roster was full of talent, and that Schotty should have gotten more out of the players. Meanwhile the Jets since 2006, not counting this year, have had six first round draft picks, and four have gone to the D. One on offense was Mark Sanchez, who of course is a controversial figure right now. I suppose it is Schotty's fault the Jets spent most of their high draft picks on D.

People around here think Sanchez will have a great year, and I personally hope he does. But it doesn't sound like the Jet organization is equally optimistic, even though Schotty is gone.

Yes, it is an urban legend among too many fans here.

Sanchez will never succeed cause he does not have because he does not have the innate ability to make quick snap decisions. I forsee TBow being the QB sometime in Oct this year

We don't have the backs or the linemen to succeed at Ground and Pound at the moment. Ducasse might come through and give us a better shot at it but really the Jets move to Ground and Pound is ill-advised on the personnel side.

The LG position also needs to have a grinder to cover the fact that D'Brick for all his strengths is not a grinder.

We found some success in the running game last year. Personnel wise we should be able to compete against most defenses in the NFL, especially given a weaker schedule.

When we run the football we cause the defense to cheat (this is novice football, simple minded football and it still works like a gem) When the defense cheats you go over the top. Pennington, made a living off of it with a chicken wing arm (ball faking was his art) of course we did have #28 in the backfield.

Sanchez, year 4, big boi, no more schotty, forget about homeboy holmes. It's your offense it's your huddle its your world. Only person who can take it from you,is you. You have a nice ball fake, use it. You have tough running backs, use them. Take a deep breath, identify the defense and execute the game plan. Get back to the basics. Run the ball to pass.

    Ground 'n pound

Some success is not what you are looking for in Ground and Pound. What you're looking for is the personnel and mentality to dominate and dictate on the ground.

For the Jets what that looked like in 2004 was one of the most prolific backs ever in Curtis Martin, a proven backup behind him who was able to maintain the push in Lamont Jordan and one of the best offensive lines of the decade with a strong run blocker at every position on the line.

In 2009 it was Thomas Jones and Shonn Greene reprising those roles and every member of the line but the LT being a powerful run-blocker.

What the Jets have now is the rotational second back for Ground and Pound in Greene and two of the five necessary linemen in Mangold and Moore. They are woefully unprepared to G&P based on their personnel at this moment.

In fact, their decision to G&P, if that is truly what they have decided to do, is as bad or worse than their decision to go with the pass-heavy offense last year without the personnel for that either.

The Jets personnel mismatches for the systems they are trying to use are the single biggest factor in their failure to perform effectively at this point. That's on the management team.

^Greene isn't a rotational 2nd back. He wasn't used properly last year and the line sucked, but he still had his best season. Mark my words, he gets at least 1200 yards this year barring injury.

Schotty sucking isn't an urban legend, just look at some of the stupidity he's called over the years. The evidence backs it. He hasn't had a single season in the NFL where the offense wasn't mediocre. I'm not going to get into the details because this thread is about Sanchez, but it's well documented. I believe Sanchez has his break out year next year. Last year he was doing very well until he got shell shocked and beat up. His touchdown #s were some of the best in the league, but his stats overall slumped because of his poor end to the season, including too many turnovers. This year will be different. I think he's got much better tools in place now, and he's in a simpler system with some nice young WRs to grow with. We drafted the rookie version of Braylon Edwards, who's departure hurt the offense more than anything last year. We might start off a little bit slow, but all in all I believe it will be a good season for Sanchize. If Sanchez keeps his TD #s similar to 2011, but cuts his turnovers back to where they were in 2010, he'll easily be top 10.. as long as the line can protect this year.

McElroy can't throw the ball more the 20yds without it being a dead duck. There is no chance in hell McElroy ever leads an NFL team anywhere. Leave him in Toronto when we play the bills.

    BS.

Here's the link to his prospect video:

    http://www.newyorkjets.com/photos-a...-Alabama/ea43dd81-6104-4e6f-a6ee-52996f2fa620

Plenty of passes on there over 20 yards.

He holds the SEC record for fewest interceptions per attempts. He threw for nearly 3000 yards and 20 TD's in 2010.

I think I am going to get a #14 jersey.

I watched the video. College football, kewl. I also watched him in preseason, NFL football. His pass was absolute garbage. Then he went ahead at the end of our season adding fuel to an already intensely burning fire when, oh yeah you had zero contribution to the team. Shut your mouth back up qb.

Back to his pass, 504 boyz called Wobble, wobble

I think the simple playcalling will help not only him, but the Wr's as well.

This seems to escape a lot of people. Not to mention the readable plays schotty gave Sanchez.
If our OL is up to par Sanchez will be better; give the man some time. This will be his fourth yr with the Jets. I believe he will be better esp since now he has competition. There's no room for him to be the spoiled brat.

1200 yards won't do it for G&P. And I agree that's probably Greene's cap although I doubt he'll get there. He has been banged up every year he's been in the league.

For the Jets to get to real G&P they're going to need his 1200 plus another 1000 from somewhere and they just don't have that on the roster at this point. Tebow may rush for 300-400 yards next year but if he does he'll be playing a lot more than the Jets are talking right now.

Now throw in the fact that the Jets offensive line isn't built for G&P at this point and G&P becomes a fantasy for the Jets. They don't have the backs and they don't have the line to make it work.

It's impossible to be entirely bad at what you do. Schotty did well in his role in getting us to the two AFCCG. However, in my opinion, it isn't that hard to not screw up those defenses and running games of those years.

Brick - Faneca - Mangold - Moore - Woody and then replacing Faneca with Slauson and Thomas Jones with LT in '10.

In '09, we were tops in the league in rushing the ball, and kudos to Schotty for recognizing the strength. In '10, we lost one of the best LG of this generation so we ran the ball less but we were still damn good at it.

The defense, although not historically good, was as solid as you could hope for in '09 before Strickland and Lito Sheppard got hurt against the Colts. That's one QB you don't want JAGS lining up against his passing options.

Anyway, the point is no one is entirely bad at their job, and Schotty had his moments. The OP isn't trying to say Schotty was a 0 and Sparano will be a 10. He's providing the irrefutable evidence that the QBs associated with Schotty did markedly better both before and after their tenure together.

I think for a kid that had 16 starts before the NFL, Sanchez walked into a great situation in '09 and a good one in '10. Now our line is in the lower half of the league and Sparano's approach of going out there and just running the play instead of all these pre-snap options is a good strategy because Sanchez won't have to think about nearly as many factors. His timing will improve because he can rely on knowing where his guys will be and just react. Do you guys remember how many miscommunications there were? This approach should help limit turnovers and make it easier for Sanchez to throw it away if he doesn't like what he sees. Imagine 2 or 3 routes for each receiver going through your head each play.

Sorry, detractors. Sanchez is going to improve, not only because Schotty was "entirely terrible," but rather because that's been the trend with Sanchez throughout his career while the offensive talent and continuity has declined.

Sanchez will succeed this year because he's a really good up and coming QB. I really hate the idea that Sanchez regressed last year. He did not regress. He didn't make a giant leap forward like he did in year 2, but he did not regress. Looking at the first 13 games last year Sanchez had a 2:1 TD:INT ratio. He had the Jets at 8-5 and poised for another playoff run. The issue was that he was sacked FOURTEEN times in the last 4 games. He was hit hard and struggled to get off the field in the Eagles game. He had 3 players fined for hits they put on Sanchez last year (Von Miller $25k, Haloti Ngata $15k, Jovan Belcher $15k). In the Eagles game Jason Babin sacked him 3 times and had another hit on him that resulted in a roughing the passer penalty. When you get hit that many times and that hard you will be skittish. He's going to be just fine this year.

    Congrats on 15,000 posts

It's possible Shcottys running game plan was even worse than his passing game plan. When you run the ball in between the tackles everytime it makes it pretty easy for the defense to stop. I expect Sparano to get Greene to the edge more. Greene really has some speed if you can get him in space. We have some pretty solid weight on our line, pass protection is a whole other story, but moving the ball 3-4 yds is achievable with the personnel we have.

I am not saying we have to be almighty on the ground, although tebow will help. I think we will have a nice wildcat and I also think Sanchez has a very nice play action ball. Let the kid fake a little, let the kid roll out of the pocket a little. Sanchez may be even more mobile than tebow, look back to what he was able to do on the ground his rookie season.

The right side of our line is bad in pass. Sparano has to be creative and shore up the weakness so Sanchez has ample time. We have to protect the football and keep possession so that when Rex's defense comes on the field they are fresh and flying around.

We are going to do great things this year. We are going to be a competitive football team and move the chains. We are going to play with passion and play as a team. We are going surprise a lot of people. Watch out.

And for some reason a Bills Blows fan is still trolling a Jets MB injecting his sewage into every aspect or the team - In May nonetheless... Why don't you come back week 1 so we can discuss the outcome of the season opener.

Just say you don't think players should ever talk. McElroy obviously can throw it.

Not sure where the McElroy bashing comes from, in a Sanchez thread, but I agree with Big Blocker on this one... McElroy has shown he is a leader and when the offensive line gives him time to plant his feet, that he can throw for distance.

As Big Blocker's vid said, he has a quick release, can read defenses well and his touchdown to interception ratio is great. He is a proven winner and able to control a game. I know, he did all of this in college, but the great NFL QB's were in college before proving themselves in the NFL.

    Wobble, wobble?

Now back to the subject of the thread.

How did the Jets have "some success running the ball" last season? I don't think having a good game or two against crappy Ds qualifies. Last year the Bills sacked the Deadskins QBs like 8 or 9 times in one game. That wasn't "some success" but simply kicking a crappy OL around.

Br4dw4y5ux is right on the money. The Jets' 3.8 YPC was 29th in the league. With the same guys on the OL and pretty much the same guys running the ball minus LT, the prospects of fielding a good, much less dominant, running game don't seem all that likely.

The running game will not be the same in 2012 as it was in 2011. We will have Mangold fully healthy, Slauson will be fully healthy. Tebow has been added and is a weapon in the running game. We have 4 young RB's in the rotation which will enable each of them to stay fairly fresh each week.
