The difference between the QBs that run the spread offense (Newton, Brady, etc) and Tebow is the fact that they are duel threats on the football field whereas Tebow cannot make every NFL throw. He can really make like a 2 or 3 and that's a out route and a post. Sparano is familiar with the Spread Option. 3 of the Jets 2012 draft picks were from college spread option offenses (Which further backs up my point: its become a college staple). Tebow can make throws. Tebow will be the starter. This section will eventually get moved to the main section. Right now, its denial. Bringing in Tebow is acknowledging that Mark Sanchez needed to be pushed. A 5th overall selection should not need to be "pushed".
Like I said he can make about 3 throws he's not suitable to run a pro offense that the Jets run. He's not going to start unless Sanchez is hurt. And we're not a spread offense. Sanchez is going to be playing somewhere on the west coast in a couple of years time. Might be Seattle, might be Oakland, might even be LA, but that's where he's likely to be.
Sanchez will be the QB of the Jets in 3 years. Tebow will either be on the Jets or someone else as a FB/TE, maybe once in awhile a "Wildcat" QB - or if he refuses to accept that role he will be in Southeast Asia helping poor lepers and starting a campaign for congress in Florida.
QFT. Two of the worst pass defenses in the league (Pats and Bills) embarrassed Tebow 3 times at the end of last season, and the Chiefs totally shut him down in a fourth game. What the Tebots can't or refuse to understand is that most of Tebow's early success came because team's didn't have film on him. Now that he's been figured out, Timmy's future "successes" as a starter will be few and far between. If Tebow starts, which I think is very likely unless Sanchez plays like a Pro Bowler from the season opener, the Jests will struggle on both sides of the ball. Maybe they'll be in the "Barf for Barkley" sweepstakes if Sanchez gets pulled early enough in the season.
Actually, I think you're on to something here. With Rex Ryan as HC, Tony Sparano as OC, and Tim Tebow as QB, I could see the Jets totally abandoning the pro offense featuring the forward pass and going with the "pound and ground" to the nth degree featuring Tebow who's a threat to run it himself or make a pitch to one of the other three RBs in the backfield.
