This is a vote for who you saw in your lifetime. Not for who was the most successful. Who do you think most exemplifies what a Jets player should be? Sadly only allowed 10 choices in a poll
Tough between Curtis and Chrebet. Curtis was the better player, but I liked Wayne Chrebet better so I'll go with him.
well, the thred title asks what's the most popular jet while the poll title asks "What Jets player is is the one who shows what a Jet should be?" which is a completely different question, and i have to answer Namath, because he represented new york city with his lifestyle and player with his heart EDIT: oh in your lifetime? sorry hahah
Tooooooooooon! I would take Martin, Chrebet and Byrd as well but with only one choice I have to go with my all-time favorite Jet.
Pretty obvious who im going for. Next best thing from a TD is a 3rd down conversion. thats all this man did. Like 75 percent of his catches were for 3rd conversions. Alway clutch, always important.
You asked two different questions. Namath is without a doubt the most popular Jet of all-time. But the guy who best embodied what a Jet (or, hell, any football player) should be is Curtis Martin.
Wouldn't the real answer be Brett Favre or Ronnie Lott? Maybe Art Monk. Heck, even LaDanian Tomlinson.
I would have said Namath, but the way he quit the team right after SBIII over the club he owned and didn't want to get out of when the league told him to. Can you imagine a QB doing that today and getting away with it? He would be tarred and feathered by the media and the fans. Image wise, and for what he meant to the team and the NFL, he wad the greatest Jet. But as a team mate, and for his commitment to the team first, I went with Martin.
The question in this poll and your subsequent post here are asking two different questions. The poll question is who is the most popular jet of all time, but you then change it to who do you think carried himself the best as a jet?
If we had drafted him I would have said Martin but as we didnt for me it would be Chrebet. I have really gone off Namath with all his recent press comments.
Between Chrebet/Martin/Pennington for me. Had to go with Pennington, though. Favorite Jet QB, hands down. Like Chrebet, Pennington did a lot with a little - weak arm, couldn't run for sh*t, but minimized turnovers and executed plays just like they were drawn up.
