Do we still go after Braylon Edwards after drafting Stephen Hill?

Agreed, the one knock on Hill is that he is pretty raw and will take time to develop.

  2. The Jets don't need a huge impact at the # 2 spot. All they need is somebody who can stretch the field, keep one safety out of the box & to be a big target in the redzone. Is Hill gonna take time to MAYBE reach his potential?Sure. But if he can catch 3-5 balls a game for around 70 yards with a TD every other game...he fills his role nicely. Can he do that? Perhaps.

The problem I have with bringing Braylon back is he ruins the notion of what WR corps needs:Competition. Jets have alot of young untapped talent on the roster right now. Bringing Braylon in, basically determines the roles 1-4 & only leaves 1 or 2 spots up for grab among the youngsters. This offense needs the competition & competition is typically what makes the cream rise to the top. Braylon comes in as the # 2..but what's the upside? He's an aging player w/ knee problems. Would the Jets rather have that, or see a guy like Hill or Turner step up,assert themself & give this team some long term projection?

You think Hill would just stop competing for the #2 job that he wants badly? If thats true, he isn't nearly as competitive as we want him to be. Same goes for the other young guys.

I want top level talent on this roster. Braylon is a better player than every receiver on our roster currently, save for Holmes, and possibly Kerley. If he is willing to come in for a near minimum, it would be a good move imo.

Just decided to visit this forum again and read the new posts. I'm absolutely ECSTATIC that the Jets are legitimately going to see to signing Braylon(health-permitting) next week.

If he's Healthy and gets signed, *THEN* this Jets Offseason goes from an A-(in my book) to an A+!!

I might be the second biggest braylon supporter right now, but where did you hear we are signing him this week if he is healthy?

    I'm referring to this :

    It's "next week", nyjetsrule.

The post is in the same thread. That's "what the hell I was talking about", LTJ.

I'm surprised you had to ask that, tbh.

Bringing in Braylon would be a referendum on how good the Jets think Hill, Kerley, Schilens and the other young WRs are right now. If Braylon is slightly better than Hill, it still might not be worth it just because Hill could use the development. If the Jets feel Braylon is significantly better than Hill, it's definitely worth considering and checking out his knee.

Schilens is 6'4 and ran a 4.38 out of college. He's been hurt a lot, but he showed a couple flashes last year, and he's a good blocker. If he's healthy (HUGE if, but it's an if with Braylon, too), he can help us out offensively, possibly as a starter while Hill learns the ropes. We're going to be a run-first team. Holmes will be the all-around playmaking Z-receiver. Hill/Schilens will be the combination red-zone/downfield X-receiver, and Kerley and Keller will catch mostly short routes (though Keller is more versatile).

And just when I think the Jets have an identity on offense, I remember we have Tim Tebow and I wonder just how the hell that's going to work.

It's going to work by Mark Sanchez manning up and keeping Tim's Christian ass on the bench as often as possible.

    Thank you sir.

you know I'm in favor of the move. edwards is better than Turner right now, and most likely better than Hill.

I just keep imagining this as a set

Edwards and Hill outside, with Tone in the slot, Keller off the RT

    Some lovely alterations....

    Greene in the single back

Sanchez in shotgun with Tebow next to him on 2nd and 2

Tebow as the single back inside the 5

Joe Mcknight as the back on 3rd and 4 or longer...

I just keep thinking to myself, stop that shit bellicheck. There are so many awesome things to do with that formation. I really hope it happens.

Mack, as much as I want to see Hill early and often, expecting him to be a consistent #2 option is asking an awful lot, especially early in the season IMO. Bringing in Edwards alleviates some of the pressure on the organization. Yet it's not like if Hill shows he is so much further along, that we can't reduce braylons snaps, or even cut him if the price is right.

I had a dream last night that Sanchez got injured for the season on the first play of the season. I woke up in a cold sweat.

Whatever liquor you drank last night, throw the bottle away. [IMG]

And we'll see this week if there's any movement on the Braylon-front.....

I'm pulling for Braylon to get signed, partly because I know he will contribute right away on this offense, and partly because I know it would make you unbelievably happy :breakdance:

    Just saw this :

This is completely the opposite of what Rex said yesterday at rookie camp.

So either Rex is an idiot, Braylon still isn't 100%, or WOODY F'N JOHNSON is behind this decision.

And what a lousy decision this is.

Looks like I might have to change my avatar now.......lol.

BTW, I'm very disappointed by this decision. Just to say it again.

EDIT : Of course, I'm hoping this is just the usual smoke-screen Coach-speak where we're kept guessing but I'm not holding my breath....

BTW, I did say I'd change my Avatar, but I can't change my name so bear with me if I have an avy of Mark Sanchez, for example......

I can understand not liking the decision, IF that is the decision, but it's not a lousy one IMO. I was a big fan of bringing Braylon back if we didn't get a receiver early, but we did. I'd rather see Hill taking the reps and he's probably the closest thing to a Braylon clone that came out of the draft.

I don't think the Jets moved up in the second round to get this kid so he could sit behind Braylon.

Good point but also realize that this is completely the opposite of what Rex said yesterday at rookie camp.

Yesterday....YESTERDAY, LTJ. It's not like he waited a Week to evaluate. He just flip-flopped TODAY!

This article was posted at 9 am today. It's based off what Rex said yesterday. If I remember correctly, Rex said that the Jets would look to add any veteran who could potentially help this roster (after being asked about Braylon's return) and was very vague about specific individuals, Braylon and Coleman.

I think you just got excited, and that this writer just took it the other way, meaning that chances are better than the writer talked about, but not as good as you were hoping...

Well "excited" or not, I think it's baloney that the Jets aren't giving Braylon another look, especially how effective he was when he was a Jet.

Plus, he WANTED to be a Jet. He played his ass off as a Jet.

Yet, what happens? We get rid of the guy who WANTED to be a Jet and Overpay a dickhead who WANTED to get PAID. This decision, IMO, goes all the way to the Top(Woody Johnson). He's more concerned with stealing the backpages(have I said this before? lol) from the Giants than winning Football games.

I'm sorry man...but you've gotta get over it.

Braylon is the past. Hill is the future. There is no way that we want to mess with Hill's development and chance to excel from the beginning to bring back an aging, injury riddled vet.

Hill is an inch taller. Obscenely faster. Can jump higher. Braylon is dominated by Hill in every measurable not related to veteran experience. He's yesterday's news for us.

The good news is that he'll probably be sitting on the FA list by the time the season starts, so on the off chance we get an injury or Hill is too raw to start (I seriously doubt that) Braylon can probably be called right in if necessary.
