Kreider lifts Rangers to 3-1 win over Capitals Rangers rookie Chris Kreider scored the go-ahead goal and then set up Brad Richards’ insurance tally 90 seconds later in the third period to lift New York to a 3-1 victory over the Washington Capitals in the opening game of the Eastern Conference semifinal series on Saturday. Kreider, who earlier this month helped Boston College win the NCAA championship, scored his second goal of his NHL career—and these playoffs— and he did it at the perfect time to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead 7:00 into the third. Richards made it a two-goal lead off a feed from Kreider, and gave a two-fisted punch into the glass behind goalie Braden Holtby to celebrate his third goal of the playoffs. Henrik Lundqvist earned the win, and needed to make only 17 saves to do it. The Rangers mustered just 14 shots on Holtby, but scored on two in a row to put the game away.
That's the most positive thing the league tried to screw us with a quick turnaround and no Boyle or Dubi and we still won...
The Caps outplayed you most of the game. Their 22 year old goalie allowed 3 softies. It happens. I wouldn't get too excited. Everything (including the refs) bounced in the Rangers favor today. Its a long series though. Hopefully Holtby shapes up.
How many shots did the Caps whiff on? It was not like the Rangers did anything special. Holtby was terrible, Lundqvist was good. Bottom line. I did not say the Caps were the better team, goalie is important and theirs was freaked out.
I gotta respond when you say stupid stuff like calling the Caps losers or claiming you are better than the Bruins after I just watched them play 7 games and looked clearly better than the Rangers. Holtby just blew it tonight.

Caps had an extra day of rest, the Rangers were gassed and won. It's only one game but i think the Rangers are now stiffer than the Caps are. The rangers and probably the caps both had some fatigue going on from round one.
Who called the Caps losers all i said was we are better than the bruins, i give them alot of credit for beating the Bruins

Matty me boy!! It's just the beginning of the changing of the guard!! I saw a ranger team today win without applying any offensive pressure, they are going to win this series.
