Just caught the pick, and thought it was odd-- Do we really need another project Dlineman when we have a geriatric linebackers corp, and black holes at the FS, LB, and WR position? If we go into the year with -Thomas, Pace, Scott, and Eric Smith starting on defense -Wayne Hunter and Shonn Greene still starting That's a lot of holes for a team that wants to play defense and run the football:breakdance:
Okay, I watched this kid play. His motor did not drop off. The team was in shambles from the NCAA probe and punishment. There were lots of new players, new coaches, system, it was just a mess. This guy was not supposed to be there when we picked at 16. What Rex is looking at is in the midst of all the chaos this guy.... is first-team All-ACC, tackles for loss (15.5) and sacks (7.5). He posted 55 total tackles on the year in the midst of all the chaos. He ranks fourth in the country among active players with 24 career sacks and leaves Chapel Hill with 144 total tackles, five forced fumbles, 22 quarterback hurries and four pass breakups.
Mo Wilkerson, Quinton Coples, Sione Pouha, Kenrick Ellis. Not to shabby if you ask me. I like that potential.
New England with Hightower and Jones...........................to our turnstile offensive line. Success. Rex Ryan says that Coples will primarily play on the left side... draws parallel to Shaun Ellis. #nyj
Since the Jets used almost the entire clock, my guess is they were trying to trade down. Since no takers, they got best available, which was Coples. I would have preferred Reiff, but I had a feeling it was Coples or Jones. Hopefully we got the better player, since the Pats scooped up Jones.
Rex says that Coples will play with his hand in the dirt...him and Mo will be a nice duo and if Ellis gets it going, that's a very strong D-line.
We definitely should of traded up Next years first and a 3rd this year to get one of the 2, id be 100000% on board with that
We needed a pass rusher. We draft arguably the best pass rusher in the draft. Jets fans complain. I'm disgusted with most Jets fans.
Whoever said he was going to play primarily 34OLB can return to masturbating with a Tebow pick on the screen.
Eh, not really sold on this pick but then again the last first rounder I didn't think was a great pick during the draft was Keller... Arguably our best 1st rounder since 08 and im even wearing his jersey right now
I like the Sports Science factor -- somehow, I think whoever is behind the scenes picking who to ask on that show is a better judge of future NFL potential than most scouts. So it's somewhat encouraging to get any player that's been on Sports Science.
This game is won in the trenches and the Jets are definitely building up the D-Line, so it's hard to complain. Hopefully, they'll improve the O-line also.
Rex would NEVER have picked Gholston. He said as much. I believe in Rex's evaluation skills. Here is a great write up on our newest Jet. http://walterfootball.com/draftinterview_quintoncoples.php
