I can see the logic of the "trade Revis" crowd...... but this is the JETS we're talking about. They'll trade one of the few superstars the franchise has ever had and end up parlaying the draft picks into the equivalent of Vernon Gholston, Blair Thomas and then use their own and select Roger Vick 2.0

For his position. Guess that doesn't count for anything? To be the best at what you do?

Do I like Revis as a player, yes. The guy plays hard and is a diffrence maker. Do I like him as a person or team-mate? I dont know I can only speculate as I have never met him. What I do suspect, as he has shown twice now (holding out his rookie year as well as in 09) is that he is all about the $. It really dosent bother me as this is obviously what the Franchise is about with Woody at the wheel. There are several issues with this metality; combine that with the fact that we have several guys with the same mentaility (Cro, Holmes, Bart).

The issues with the pay me, attitude is that it does take away from the team. With-out a salary cap, ala the Stank-ees, this is less of an issue as there is no consequence for paying a premium for talent; especially in NY as the market can absorb this free spending. In the NFL, it is very different. These bad contracts (Holmes, Cro, Revis, Scott, Pace) can crippel a team. Furthermore, why not get as much cap room and possiably replace the talent that we have instead of being help hostage by a fucking cornerback; yes a CORNERBACK, for the third time. It will happen again, Revis will be looking to get paid yet again. I doubt he cares as much about being on a championship team as much as he does about his bank roll. Sell this stock at its hight, before it sarts to decline.

I said the same thing (trading Revis) a few months ago and was hammered immediately. How time changes everything.

If possible, Jets should try to get their own version of the Great Train Robbery, a la Herschel Walker trade. 3 1sts, 3 2nds and two capable starters will do. (But then Al Davis passed away. God damn it.)

Revis for a High draft pick would be possibly the dumbest thing you could do

Not "a" high draft pick, but multiple picks is more along the lines of what is being said. If you can get 2 1sts a second and maybe a 3rd, it's a very tempting. For instance if cleveland wanted a cb to pair with joe Haden and potentially form the best cb duo, and instead of drafting mo Claiborne, they trade us both of their 1sts and their 2nd and maybe a 4th... With that, we could fill pretty much every hole in one draft class and lengthen our SB window tremendously.

Revis won't be traded so this is all hypothetical and about as likely as tebow becoming the next peyton manning... But the idea is tempting, if u look at it objectively.

Anybody who wouldn't trade Darrelle Revis straight up for one of the first two picks in this draft doesn't know much about football. That's *with* Sanchez and Tebow on the roster.

While this position is closer to mine that that of the Trade Revis Chorus here, the truth is we are both starting with the same basic perception of the problem, which concerns the Jet FO.

I agree with the basic point that the Jets have failed to make the best possible use of Revis due to two basic holes in the Jet D, those being lack of a pass rush, and lack of coverage in the middle of the field. Yes, this reflects a basic lack of balance in the Jet D, imo attributable as much as anything to the gaping hole that the Gholston pick left in the team.

And of course the Jet FO has made a number of mistakes in addition to the Gholston pick.

But here's the thing - imo trading Revis would solve nothing. First of all this FO will not get good value for Revis in a trade. Second I have no confidence in their ability to draft anyone suitable and of equivalent value.

The "get more money to spread it around" argument seems logical, but also would depend on the FO spending money wisely on a number of positions. I can't see that we should just assume that will happen.

The fact is that the Jet D for all its problems last year was arguably the fifth best in the league. I think with a good pass rushing LB added, it could be good enough to go the distance. The real problems on the team tend more to be on the offensive side of the ball.

Let's not throw the baby out with the bath water here. The NFL is a league right now that favors the passing attack. At 6.7 ypa, the Jet passing D was only bettered by four other teams last year. It also was ranked fifth in total yards. The Jets dropped to 13th in ppg because of the O.

This is a team headed by Ryan, and he emphasizes D. Placing fifth, the D is arguably holding up its end. Add a 23rd ranked Qb and his sucking the wind out of the offense to that fifth placed D and you end up whadaya know you end up with an 8-8 record.

It is what it is. Ryan is the HC, and he gives us a top five D, but he was also all in on the Sanchez pick. Oh well.

And the FO does not compensate, has not compensated, either.

Ftr I don't blame Ryan as much as the FO for the problems on O, but it is clear that Ryan has no solid approach to or vision of the O, so the FO's lacking there is left unaddressed.

Imo, this is not a problem that trading Revis will resolve. Doing so will almost certainly mean a decline in the D, and at what benefit to the O? The fact is that the FO will not put a better O on the field even with what they could get from a Revis trade.

We might as well keep Revis and enjoy watching him play.

If he holds out again then he falls into the asshole category and in my mind, trade him. I would love it if the JETS had 3 1st round picks next year.

Revis said that he couldn't rule out a hold out. Please Cleaveland do us a solid and trade your 2 first round picks for Revis this year.

    In your opinion.

Personally, I'd let him rot until he showed up and acted humble.

I believe there is a clause that says if he holds out his contract automatically extends another couple of years. Can anybody verify that?

    http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/sto...e-revis-new-york-jets-dances-contract-holdout

It was a one-year extension as part of a new, four-year, $46 million contract. It included two significant clauses: The Jets can't exercise the franchise tag after the 2013 season. As a holdout deterrent, the contract extends by three years (through 2016) if Revis skips training camp.

And I think that extension comes at even less money than he is set to earn over the next two years....this could be one reason the Jets don't want to do another hard knocks.

Cimini is loving every minute of this.

C'mon Revis, think about someone other than yourself for a change.

I feel this is a classic tense situation getting into a cuban missile crisis over a minor admission of potential hostility. Revis is just keeping his options open at this moment. Revis can hold out, but he's going to be essentially ruining his payday throughout his true prime in so doing. This is why the Jets drafted Kyle Wilson and it looks amazing right now. Cro/Wilson is a nice tandem and Revis is going to lose a lot more than the Jets if shit goes down.

The real problem is going to be if they don't extend this year, wtf happens when it comes down to it next year. That's imo.

I love Revis the player...His seemingly interminable contract situation is for the birds. IMHO Trade him now while he has maximum value use the picks/players to build a perpetual contender.

I have to agree with the idea of trading him now. They can get at least two #1s and maybe more than that. This problem with him and his contract is never going away and the Jets just can't afford to pay him what he is probably worth..(thanks Tanny, our cap genius strikes again)

Well yes...it is always pretty easy to take the doom and gloom attitude. On the other hand, you can always meet any and all "reasonable" demands he makes and next year fence him for the same 1st 2 picks less 1 years worth of depreciation. Anybody that absorbs Revis is going to deal with the same insane salary demands as us, so it's not like you're losing any value on the commodity whether you trade him now or later.

You're making it personal. And it isn't. The fact is, we'll lose Revis if we have to. But it'll be on our own terms, when we decide enough is enough. And we'll be rewarded handsomely if it happens. Chances are, it won't. Thanks for preaching about the falling sky again though. I thought it was nice and blue this morning over East Rutherford. Must be my trick eyes.
