Or maybe they think having him speak now is best because by the end of the news cycle all anyone cares about is the draft again and Holmes is old news?
As Larry Holmes would say, Woody Johnson couldn't carry George Steinbrenner's jockstrap. Steinbrenner won early and often, Johnson hasn't won a thing.
Yeah but based on what he said this won't happen. The only way to make Holmes old news by the draft was to have him say all the politically correct things to defuse the situation. To script his conference call and do a mock interview if necessary to have all the gotcha questions in his face before he went live in front of the tabloids. Instead they just let him speak his mind (obviously) and now the tabloid columnists have more grist for the mill that they'll dredge up whenever they're on a deadline and it's a slow news day. If Holmes had acted out the way he did on his own? Well, there's nothing the Jets can really do about that. That he did it on their conference call is on them and they don't really have any recourse to fix it at this point. It's just another loose end for them that's blowing in the breeze out of their reach and likely to snap back and hit them at a bad time. Bill Parcells probably would have cut Holmes the day after the Miami game. Painful, painful cap move but once you've lost control of your locker room everything that happens after that tends to be painful. Cutting out the problems is the first step in resolving that.
The article makes it seem worse then it really is. Holmes has always been a dick but thats not what matters. As long as he isn't fighting with teammates and is producing who cares. He can spend all off season clubbing baby seals but if he produces and helps the team win than it doesn't bother me. Everyone wants to like all their players and wants to see everyone on their team be best friends but the bottom line is winning. When we talk about chemistry between Mark and Holmes its about timing and making plays not about them becoming best friends.
#1, stop living in the past, how was his 2011 preformance? 2010 was a contract year for him, you are further proving my #2 point below; thanks. No I dont know him personally; I dont associate with bed wetters, thugs, and guys that dont look in the mirror. He is a fucking cry baby. He got his $, a big C on his Jersey (based on $ not leadership abilities), and quit on his team. There is no denying this; no matter how much you try to spin it; SH is and most likley will be a distraction again, he has the history to prove it. AT OSU; took $ Santonio Holmes allegedly received money from an agent when he was at Ohio State, according to a report in Sports Illustrated. Josh Luchs, a certified NFL agent for 20 years, said that he knew of 30 former college players who received improper benefits that violated NCAA rules, including the Jets wide receiver. "In November 2005, (partner) Steve (Feldman) and I flew to Ohio State to talk to receiver Santonio Holmes," Luchs wrote in the story. "We met him outside the football building and he said, 'Listen, I want to save you the time. We don't need to meet. I've been taking money from (an agent) the last couple years and he's been taking care of my family, too." Multipul faild drug tests and was sent packing from the Steelers for a late round pick (they were obviously sick of his act). Now he has destroyed a locker room and you continue to blame the media for his problems... two peas in a pod you guys are...
I appreciate the post and what you think about what Woody and Jets are planning, but none of it really addresses the point that we don't know if Tanny and Rex spoke to Holmes. Every move you listed while controversial doesn't deny or confirm the fact that the Jets brass talked to Holmes. I'm not going to go out and say they didn't because we have no proof they didn't. I disagree, making Holmes media available was good. Get that out of the way as quickly as possible, and Holmes said nothing for anyone to go back to it. He made it clear, in a jerk way, but clear that he wasn't talking about last season. We can argue on how he said certain things, but what he said is correct in my eyes.
Exactly. You can be a jerk and a good teammate. Kobe is a douche but do you think his teammates want him gone? Santonio is talented and if we are going to win this season then he will be a part of that.
Very true in the NBA or MLB as individual talent is highlighted (without pass protection, and a decent QB Holmes would never see the Ball; Kobe and Manny; circa 2002 will be able to have touches each tme down the court or have 4 at bats to De-Douche themselves). Tone on the other hand is a fucking WR; he NEEDS his teamates.
True but bad example. A good player does not mean a good teammate. Kobe is a fukin Douche and a Dick teammate.... but he is a great player. Good teammates don't throw their guys under a bus and rat you out when they get busted.... They also don't bad mouth you for not getting them the ball like a pussy. There are better examples out there but I do agree.
I don't blame the guy for being a dick his job is to score touchdowns and he had a play caller that couldn't get that done and no one was doing anything about it. Now we have a decent play caller and I think with that combined with the actual offseason will make a positive difference.
Problem is that Brady didn't call out his OC, rather, his OC took him to task for throwing a boneheaded interception, and Brady took exception to it. He, Brady, was wrong. The thing is, you can bet that the OC and Brady talked about it and worked it out, as opposed to just trying to ignore what had happened or thinking "hey, that's in the past". That's what grown ups do. They blow up at each other, then, they make amends. You explain your mindset/point of view and you reach an understanding with each other. If you don't, it just builds more friction. Most of us have probably worked with people who would readily be considered a "workplace" cancer. They may want things to run better. Hell, they might actually be right about some of the things they say. BUT, they are still jackasses who are unpleasant to work with and they end up being much more trouble than they are worth.
On the bold, you are assuming Brady and OC worked it out and that Tone and whoever didn't even though we have no proof either way. When Manning or Brady goes to the sideline and rips into a player, olineman, or coach it is seen as them being competitive. Tone obviously hasn't helped his image so everyone assumes that he is always at fault, but we really have no idea if they did make amends. Holmes never confirmed or denied that everything was worked out. He just said he didn't want to talk about it because it was in the past, but reporter kept on asking him. The whole point I'm making is the article is clearly coming from a negative light maybe because this guy is upset Tone blew off his questions? Tone has put himself in a negative light in front of the media. Tone was upset the media kept on asking about 2011 and didn't answer in a polite way. Media spins story to make Tone look a terrible teammate. He didn't throw anyone under the bus in this interview and he didn't take responsibility in this interview.
Madonna's into NBA guys, not football players. If you hear the audio, his tone is awful. He comes off as surly and unrepentant.
Here's Brady talking about it in the postgame press conference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kNzCzfqUeo&feature=related
And that has what to do with this discussion ? OC's get replaced all the time, especially when they leave to take the Head Coaching job at Penn State.
