So 6/13 years you don't need an elite QB? That is basically 50/50. I see what you were saying, elite QB tremendously helps a team that is not a super bowl contender into a contender. But you did list about 50% of the time you need real good overall play to win which, by the way, Eli and Brady needed when they both underperformed in their respective championship games.
Eh, you're using the end result to justify your premise. Tom Brady didn't do shit in his rookie season in the playoffs. He had the reigns on him tighter than Sanchez did in the playoffs. Eli Manning wasn't even close to an elite QB in his 1st SB run. I wouldn't necessarily call Big Ben elite in his 1st SB run either. So in the end, I count 8 of 13. Does it help? Absolutely. Is it a necessity? No. I can go through a bunch of what ifs with all these, but if the 49ers PR knew how to hold onto a damn football that number is prob 7 of 13, about a 50/50 proposition.
Also who says Sanchez isn't going to be an elite quarterback exactly? If this kid doesn't develop into at least a top 10 Qb in the next 2-3 years I'll eat my foot....not so much this year, but in his first two years when he threw a ball the right way I've seen exactly one quarterback that has played for the Jets in my life that would have made those kind of throws. Brett Favre. Not Vinny. Sure as hell not Chad. I don't know, maybe Boomer?? I was too young to really judge something like that today. This kid is an old school gunslinger and once he has got his sea legs under him he's going to do some very very dirty things to opposing secondaries. Count on it. Not saying he'll be perfect, his type never is. But when you press it and press it in there you're going to turn the ball over your share and so forth but you're going to rack those points up too.
I do not think you & others are not peering far enough into the future to understand the concept why it would be better for us to trade DR. For sure the 2012 season will be non contending season for us without a doubt RR contract expires after the 2013 season & for sure if 2012 is a dreadful season as most expect then RR will not be reupped & will either coach 2013 as a lame duck (very bad for us) or exit NY for a DC position somewhere So 2011 & 2012 & 2013 are all losing years & a new HC shows up for the 2014 season which means 3 more years of losing while the new HC installs the system & gets the players he needs to get to play in that system Now DR is in his upper 20s so if you trade him NOW U can probably get several high picks for him. Now when he reaches his 30s his trade value is totally valueless. So that is why you trade DR while the team is in a tailspin & his services will not be needed between the 2012 & say 2017 seasons :sad:
The worse part is it appears RR is oblivious to this flaw & just sinks more & more talent into it see Wilson :sad:
He picked a linesman #1 last year. We need an OLB more than anything else on D. I think the line will be fine as long as we keep Pouha and sign a good cover safety.
H'mmm maybe you forgot about our pass rush, slow LBers, awful safeties, RBs, WRs beyond the OL that U mentioned? :sad:
Maybe you forget we didn't have training camp last season to develop Wilkerson and Ellis. I expect big things from them this year. My point was that we DID try to make the line younger and stronger to help with the run D. Obviously CBs prime duties aren't to stop the run, but its a passing league, so stopping the pass should be priority, and yes to do that we need a pass rusher (OLB) and cover safety to complement Revis. Maybin is promising, but Pace hasn't exactly been great. We definitely need to draft one early if we can, and I see us drafting an ILB to eventually replace Scott in the later rounds. Our D is a few pieces away from #1 again, unless some fluke happens and Ellis and Wilkerson both regress this year, or people get hurt, but I honestly don't see it happening.
I think drafting someone in the later rounds with the intention of turning them into the long term replacement of a past his prime starter in a key position is not a good idea. I think you try to draft someone that you're hoping can come in as soon as possible and be a useful backup and not have any plans for him beyond that. The main problem is if the kid shows some promise you might make the big mistake of giving him the job. Now you end up with a non-impact starter for years to come and you've wasted a year in the replacement process to find a true long term answer. Right now we're in need of a stop gap. We'll address the ultimate answer when Scott is off the roster through FA or the 1st or 2nd round at that point.
Wrong again the NYJs trained last year @ Florham Park instead of at Cortland NY & the training time was exactly the same in FP as it would have been in Cortland :sad:
It still wasn't the same as full off season and official training camp. We had Sanchez doing his own thing and few other players stepping up with him, but we barely had a legit camp at all. You really enjoy painting our team as garbage, eh?
Bump, as a recent artical explaines how the Revis contract was a "Band-Aid". I am still on board with trading him as his new contract demands will crippel our organization.

this is the stupidest thread ever trading revis would be the worst decision to make, considering he is one of our only leaders left in the locker room and is the best goddamn corner in the league. rex ryans defense kind of needs that sort of thing, just in case you didnt know, its kind of why we have darelle revis AND antonio cromartie and drafted kyle wilson. lets just tear apart the one consistency on this team because revis might hold out. yeah right, and monkeys might fly out of my asshole, but until that happens, you keep the best player on your top 10 defense.
Rex Ryan football needs DR. The guys progression from college to the pros is not seen very often and how many CB's can shutdown an opposing teams best receiver. Again RR football needs DR.
Also, to the OP. If your mind was so deep you would realize there is no way the Jets would receive proper compensation for DR.
