We have to fill the upper deck, so bring him in. Why should the motivation for this move be any different than all the others? We have tickets to sell.
I'm not 100% anti-TO, but there's no way in hell we make this move now. This is the type of move you make around when training camp is breaking, assuming TO is out there. Scenario: we spend a mid-round pick on a WR, but otherwise plan on going with Schilens, Holmes and Kerley with our top 3 WRs, Turner and the pick behind them. Schilens gets hurt, and he could miss serious time. In that scenario, do you sign T.O. to a minimum deal hoping to squeeze out one last good year from him? That's the only scenario it makes sense. Owens is an option to go to if everything else falls through.
reputations are funny things. Where they come from... how accurate they are.. whether they, perhaps having been accurate enough at one time, really are at another... In TO's case, of the three considerations listed above, I am pretty sure that is NOT the case for him. As you say the facts do not support the perception that he has been a locker room problem in the last few years. Whether he really was before that is another consideration. But for some to think he has been one in the recent period is just not accurate or based on anything other than, in this case undeserved, reputation.
I say sign T.O and let the circus continue why the hell not. The guy wants to go out a winner. Im positive he will run complete routes, block downfield and come to play weekly.
The draft..if we don't get a number 2 in the draft I would think they will sign an Edwards or an Owens or somebody else to fill that role.
