    If he didn't come close to breaking the passing yard record, you'd have a point, but the kid almost got 5000 yards passing. Here's the kicker though. He only threw 2 more TDs than Mark Sanchez. He also had 2 less picks. They aren't that far apart, Sanchez can go the distance and take us to the promised land. Eli saved the Giants' ass last year when they had all those defensive injuries, and you know he did that strange thing that matters, won 2 superbowls. You can't take that away from him. He's elite now or close to it. Most of the Giants struggles last year were on defense, and failing to establish the run. Eli carried that team on his back for a large portion of the season.

    Are you saying the Jets don't invest value on defense in the draft? Didn't we pick defense early the last 3 out of 4 years? We were unlucky with Gholston. It happens. You do realize that people were complaining about Eli the way people complain about Sanchez after his 3rd year. We do have a longterm plan, and it's with Sanchez + a strong running game. That hasn't changed. If he wins us 2 superbowls in the next 4 years, like Eli did, I'll be more than happy. With the right pieces in place we can still do it. We have a lot of young talent on this team and this year we will be adding a bunch more. Our secondary is one FS and a pass rusher away from being a dominant unit, capable of shutting down elite QBs. Rex has been trying to solve this riddle for a while and he's very close.

    @Barcs

    Look at Eli Manning's career at this point. He's an 82.1 career passer 8 years in. He's averaged 7 yards a pass attempt. He's thrown interceptions on more than 3 percent of his passes. That's just not an elite QB. There's just no other way to look at his body of work. Is he good? Yes. Is he finally clearly in the top 10 8 years into his career? Yes.

    Look at all the other guys you would call elite and compare their career stats to Eli and he's just not that good. He's not even close. What he is good at is taking shots down the field. When the rest of the team is good enough to make that matter the Giants have won some rings.

    Same thing will be true for Sanchez in 5 years only he'll be taking shots down the field for the Raiders or the new LA franchise instead of us.

    The bottom line is that he's good enough to win a superbowl. Again, he played like he did this year without a running game and having to play comeback constantly. I was referring to his play this season as elite. I'm not saying his entire career is elite, I'm saying he just got there, and Mark can get there as well. He's a top 5 QB, no question.

    I agree, but we will sell a lot of PSL's.

    Free agency is still young, and we could wind up with a Right Tackle. I would entertain trading our 3rd round pick for Kraig Urbik to play guard, and move Moore out. Urbik could back up Mangold if needed. (After last year, I think everyone can agree a back up Center is needed.) Urbik is also listed as a right tackle on some sights as well.

    We could trade Scott to regain our 4th round pick, and sign David Hawthorne.

    Address ROLB, WR, CS in the draft.

    What about Barry Richardson? He's meeting with rams today, apparently. That could be a legitimate signing at RT. Not a huge signing, but would definitely add depth and be better than Hunter.

    That would be a move for next season; if Jets do go after Otah, they should just let him rehab this season and build the leg strength. I wouldn't mind him either way.

    That pretty much sums that up. Sign him, throw him on PUP, IR him if necessary, and rehab him into the role for next year. That would pretty much alleviate what is arguably our biggest need for after this season. I'd be all for it.

    Otah is not the answer at RT. The NFL is not a place where often injured players come back and flourish. There are a few guys over the years that have done that, but as Kris Jenkins showed us clearly even the gains there are usually short-lived.

    Otah is a dead end. There's a 10% chance he's actually of value but no team in their right mind is going to devote the resources to try to find that 10%. Cuz 90% of the time you've just wasted time and energy on a guy that anybody could tell you is not likely to pan out.

    Precisely... that's why I inserted the catch "if Jets DO go after Otah..."
