And Monday is my birthday and all the attention is now going to be on the Tebow press conference...it still seems like a fugue episode and this really hasn't happened but it has.

People are so clueless to what Tebow can do and just how well he can pass if used effectively.

What some fans need to understand is that the reason some offensive coordinators are excited about QB's like Tebow is because in the NFL, traditional pocket passers in a conventional offense, give defenses a 1 man advantage. Not everything about a conventional offense is gravy, even with elite pocket passers and elite receivers. Without getting into scheming, generally speaking, in essence you have 11 defensive players covering 10 offensive guys in man to man, always giving defenses the ability to rush a "free" passer for the pocket QB. When you have a guy like Tebow, who on every snap, can hang on to the ball and take off, you're basically forcing defenses to account for Tebow with that extra man by form of a spy or some other defensive scheme.

Now that's not all. One of the biggest reasons why Tebow wasn't able to throw as efficiently in Denver as he is very well capable or doing or did in college or as efficiently as Cam Newton did in Carolina was the lack of personnel and receiving threat. What Carolina had, that Denver never had, is an elite receiver, Steve Smith. And I'm not just referring to the obvious, standard, ability of guys like that to get open and catch the ball, and catch bad passes, etc. Now yes they also had 2 tight ends, and elite rb's who can also catch but those guys basically helped Cam dump the ball short. Steve Smith did something completely different in addition to him being a great receiver. When you also have at least one elite receiver, like a Steve Smith - or say Santonio Holmes -that can at times dictate double coverage, well all of a sudden defenses are as screwed covering the Jets with Tebow as they are covering Tom Brady and his 2 tight ends.

Now you forced a defense to put 2 guys on your elite receiver + 1 guy on Tebow. You didn't just level the playing field, you gave your offense an extra man. You have completely flip-flopped the script in your favor. Now you have 8 remaining offensive players on 7 defensive players! If your QB can scramble and pass, which Tebow can, and buy himself enough time to get away from the 1 rusher, or if your offensive lineman stop him, you always have an open man, even in man-to man coverage. Completing passes becomes as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. You usally end up with 1 receiver wide freaking open.

That's the reason Carolina always had someone open. It wasn't just Cam Newton. He was initially responsible for leveling the playing field and making it 11 on 11. It was Steve Smith, an elite receiver who commanded, in some games, double coverage. It becomes really easy to complete passes when you have someone open on just about every play. Now in games where Steve Smith was covered by a single guy, Cam Newton was not as effective. But now if you happen to get your hands on two elite receivers....or an elite receiver and one elite tight end that matches up well with defenders... you have completely freaked over any NFL defensive coordinator because you will have, in theory a +1 or even +2 advantage. That is a nightmare to defend. But neither Erick Decker nor Demarius Thomas, even at their best, would have commanded double coverage in Denver.

Now there are defensive schemes that can answer this, but very few. Just like you need the necessary personnel on offense to make this work, you need some very specific defensive players or scheming to stop it. One of the main reasons the Patriots are able to stop it essentially because the lack of an elite receiver on Denver's part so they never had to worry about double covering receivers, and because of one guy on the Patriots side: Vince Willfork. He can take on 2 offensive linemen and still rush the QB. Especially Denver's offensive linemen. So they regain their 1 man advantage because of Vince. But he's pretty much the only dude in the NFL that can do what he does. Most elite defensive players draw double blockers, like say DE Julius Peppers, but they rarely still get to the QB once they get 2 man on them. Tebow wore those guys down against Chicago by the end of the 4th quarter because they were always having to take on 2 offensive lineman just to try and keep a spy on Tebow. So currently in the NFL, as a whole, there's not a lot of teams with the necessary personnel on defense to stop a well operated spread option made up with the right personnel. And even if some teams get it, it's going to take a couple of years before defenses catch up. Years in which you have plenty of time to run wild. But even the Pats didn't need to waste any defensive players on Denver's receivers. They didn't double cover anyone. I would be surprised if even their defense can stop Tebow, if Tebow is on a team with an elite receiver that demands double coverage and better additional personnel. Even with a guy like Vince, they would get burnt.

That's also the main reason why it is worth investing in designing an offense like this. Not just because it's effective in terms of scoring, but because the NFL, in its current state, is not built defensively to stop this type of offense. And it's going to take some very special defensive players, and a couple of years of drafting and training, to make up for this type of advantage.

So the main key to making it work on the Jets, is the main key most offenses are any good in the first place. An elite receiver. Santonio Holmes. He's going to be the main reason Tebow will be able to do what he does best. Him and Sporano who understand this very well.

So basically, when you have all that, why in the freak would you just have Tebow run the wildcat?

Does anybody really think that if John Elway thought there was a QB in that body to go along with Tim Tebow's heart and competitive drive that he'd have let anybody pry Tebow away from the Broncos?

    I mean really?

I have no idea if John Elway is a good evaluator of talent at the QB position however I do know that he looked like that girl cat trying to squirm away from Pepe LePew from almost the moment he and Tebow came in close contact.

Isn't that worth something in the discussion? That a guy who had Tebow as his QB and profited from that by seeing his team in the playoffs for the first time in 5 years immediately ran screaming into the parking lot afterwards?

There hasn't even been 1 play run with the guy yet. I'm of the opinion that he was brought here to be a wildcat weapon. Others think he is here to beat out Sanchez. And if he does, whos fault is that? Either way, none of us know. We didn't break the bank for him. The griping on this forum is out of fucking hand now to the point where it's pathetic. He is a Jet now, what is your fucking crying going to do about it?

yes let us base every assumption about Tebow on John Elway's decisions.

Give it time. Its going to work out.

Comebacks, although a sign of grit and guts, is also a sign of 3 poor quarters of play. Especially for the AFC West, that's not exactly a sign of proficiency.

Show me anywhere that I said he had good mechanics and I'll personally blow sunshine up your ass for your pleasure. I watched every snap of his last year and i can tell you that he had horrendous passes and beautiful passes as well. Many of the beautiful passes were dead on and dropped....multiple times per game. ESPN doesn't want you to see that though so unless you watched the game you wouldn't know.

Consistency is the key, he can do it, he just needs to work at it and improve. I *think* he can. IF he can become a decent passing QB, just merely decent mind you, he will be unstoppable and that is why he is worth taking the time to work with.

Yes and I have talked about it extensively. It has just as much to do with the Broncos, Elway's and Fox's vision, and their inability to put together a modern offense in order to take advantage of Tebow's ability as it does with Tebow's inability to provide them with what they need. Tebow was not drafted to run a conventional offense in Denver, he was drafted to run the spread option in Denver. When McDaniels left, Tebow's future left with him.

75% of their roster, and their entire coaching staff is designed for a completely different offense. Had Peyton not been available, they probably would have given him what he needed but Fox and his staff are STILL not the right guys to put together that type of offense. They would have also needed new coaching. Considering Peyton was available it made sense to pull the trigger and resume their original path.

To quote Fox back earlier in the year:

But it also speaks volumes about what Tebow was able to do, with what they had, with them being 1-4 and where he took them.

And let's be clear. They NEVER managed to get that team as a whole to run the spread option the way it's supposed to run. Trying to teach veteran guys like Willis who has played his position one way and one way only his entire career how to do it completely different all of a sudden is a big challenge. But it doesn't mean the Jets don't have the personnel or the right guys. Sporano isn't McCoy. John took the easy way out. He's sticking with what he knows. John, Fox and their OC were in uncharted territory trying to put together this type of team.

There is a big difference between a coach who has no prior experience, ins't a believer and learning on the fly and someone that is part innovator in a certain offensive philosophy or has actually had experience running the spread option.

So was Tebow ready and capable of running a conventional offense? No. There are much better options. If it was up to EFX they'd spend the next 5 years trying to convert Tebow into a pure pocket passer. But is EFX and the Denver team the most capable staff of putting together a spread option offense? NO! There are much better options. EFX simply don't believe in the offensive philosophy all together. Not just Tebow, but the offense itself. Thank God Sporano doesn't plan on trying to convert Tebow, but rather take advantage of what he brings to the table.

he's been coddled long enough! either step up or take a seat on the bench.

i saw the tuna pull vinny out of a game and romo, sims, also.

results are all that count. the rest is just b.s.

for what these guys are paid, they should not expect any guarantees.

there is competition for other positions. who says the qb should be exempt?

    it's a passer's league and his stats are crappy.
