The hope is, that Tebow makes us a better team and we win the Super Bowl and dealing with the cap space is a nice issue to be dealing with while celebrating...
The Jets weren't willing to pay Brad Smith $5mm a year and he played a more vital role as a special teams and KO return guy in addition to his use in the offense. Why would they now find a way to pay similar money for a guy who is less diverse than Smith (although more dynamic on offense)? The answer seems to be clearly the results to the bottom line to Woody. Everyone focusing on the cap etc. is missing the point. The cap is for managing rosters but it doesn't necessarily translate into profitability for the owner. Tebow on the other hand will directly boost the profitability and affords the team the opportunity to finally sell off the remaining PSL's as well as collect additional merchandising revenue. I look at this less as a football move and more as a business decision to impact the bottom line. They probably don't know what they will do with him after this year but if it clears up their stadium seating issues and they get any productivity at all from him this year then its a win for Woody. In his mind so they lose a 4th rounder this year, if they deal him they can make up some of that loss and not have to deal with hawking PSL's any longer.
I am glad you posted this, and I agree. I didn't want to be negative (well not to negative), and left that out aspect out.
Well said, good point, and very depressing. I know that it's a business but for most fans it is far more than that...
