why bother quoting me if you're just going to ignore the question?

maybe we should draft a cb in the first round this year because it's no guarantee that revis won't get injured during the offseason playing ice hockey with the coca cola polar bears.

the extension is pretty much their way of saying "you are our starter for the next two years."

$2.667 million more in dead money with a cut after 2013. That's the $8 million the Jets converted from salary to bonus this year over 3. I think there's a $500,000 work out bonus also, so maybe $2.833 million.

Br4d I'm pretty sure its 0. They guaranteed his salary for both 2012 and 2013, and following 2013 we can cut him without any cost at all, same obviously after 2014 and 2015.

Its part of why this is so damn advantageous for the Jets.

Because I already answered your question a bajillion pages ago. I am happy with this move as I have not given up on Sanchez. So yes. I am happy that we have proclaimed him as our starter for the next year. ...and really only the next year because my point, that you missed, was that the contract means nothing beyond this upcoming season.

Not to sound pessimistic, but...what if he doesn't improve this year?

if you already answered, then there was no point in quoting me and then not answering me.

the extension pretty much says he's our starter for the next 2 seasons. you're the only person i've seen that thinks otherwise.

we dont have a choice. Jets essentially comitted to Sanchez for 2012 and 2013. He isnt going anywhere. In 2014, he can be tossed for nothing.

We don't have a choice. His cap hit would be too huge to take. He's basically guaranteed to be our QB through 2013. So he has 2 years to prove he should be our long term starter.

sanchez will be fine. we have a new OC and will address the OL through FA. thats what this extension has given us - the ability to go out and get a beast OL in FA which will in turn help Sanchez to be a better QB. its not rocket science.

The bonus he's just received is spread over the 5 years. If we cut him after 2013 the 2014, 2015 and 2016 portions of that bonus would accelerate on to the cap immediately.

Cap-wise the Jets will always be on the hook for a certain percentage of Mark Sanchez bonuses paid so far through the remaining number of years of the deal. The pro-rated portion of the bonuses that has not yet been accounted for in a given cap year is what is termed dead money against the cap moving forward. Other things, like guaranteed salary in future years is also immediately accelerated against the current cap when a player leaves the roster.

Sanchez has a dead money figure of about $17 million against the cap* if cut in 2013.

In 2014 he would count $4.8 million against the cap* in dead money if cut.

As I read this, Sanchez was set to make 17.75 million between 2012-2013. Now He is set to make 20.5 million in guaranteed money in 2012 and 2013. So they upped his salary by 2.75 million over the next two years. Thus making for all of the 20.5 million in guaranteed money in his entire contract, thus he will can be cut in 2014 for nothing, as it goes on to say in the rest of the deal.

Once the guaranteed money is paid out, he doesnt have to see any more money from the contract if he is cut.

Did Jason update things after the restructure? I know he hadnt as of late yesterday. According the article piece I posted, all of his guaranteed money is paid out by the end of 2013, thus making him cuttable for free.

That said, we are quibbling over 2.75 million. If we still owe him that in 2014 and we have to cut him due to poor performance, it won't stop us

Just went to NYJcap.com and looked at the piece Jason put up on the Sanchez extension

    http://nyjetscap.com/2012_Articles/sanchezextension.php
So you guys are right. There is still a cap charge if cut in 2014. But not enough to prevent us from moving on if Sanchez doesn't pan out.

The next David Carr. In 3 years time he'll be a backup or out of the league. But at the end of the day he will be a filthy rich pretty boy who accomplished nothing and set the Jets back another 5 years.

David Carr? David Carr comparisons are weak at best.
