woah woah woooooahhhh mark deserves a lot of credit for the way he's played in the playoffs. but let's not act like this defense hasn't been the team's strength the last few years. yes, even in the playoffs. the way to defend sanchez is not to throw everyone else on the team under the bus. the only game where i felt the d really let us down in the playoffs was the pitt game. they put us in a hole early and then shut them down the second half. the offense still only managed to put up 19 points so it's not like they're entirely blameless either. in 6 playoff games, we've scored 20+ points twice. so we're 4-2 in the playoffs, even though we've managed to score 20 points twice. that's the work of a good defense.
What about all the 3 and outs the offense have during the games? And the D is tired in the 4th quarter. Is that the D fault?

But that was a horrible horrible call and not Sanchez' fault. And why were the Jets throwing late in the half like that? (Schotty!!). 17-0 at halftime and the Jets win that game with a FG rather than failing on the goal line stand by Pitt.
Great article. Sanchez is our future and people really need to realize this. WE NEED BRAYLON BACK!!!!!! That is one thing that this article screams to me. Burress was a bad experiment. Every time something goes right for the organization, we let it go. That is why it was good for the Jets to stick with the Sanchize. How can you expect to win when you take two of Sanchez's favorite targets and replace them with two receivers with the same skill set (or so they thought), but older and with no past exp with Sanchez. Cotchery was the Ultimate Jet. There is not one fan on this board who can say they didn't absolutely love having Braylon. He could handle a double team and get open every play. Holmes can get open whenever he wants if he is single covered. I don't think I've ever seen Cotch go down without a fight. We need to bring back Braylon. Holmes will thrive this way and Kerley will fill the slot role nicely. Jets Takeover in 2012. Hopefully....
[sarcasm]But, but, but...its Sanchez's fault isn't????[/sarcasm] People always complain that Sanchez locks onto Keller too much. This post explains exactly why - Keller is the only TE/WR that Sanchez has had any continuity with the past 3 years. Every year it is a revolving door at the WR position. The Jets need to bring back Braylon this year provided his knee is healthy and the speed is still there. The guy may be a goofball diva, but all WRs are that way. He played well, blocked in the running game and made big plays. That deep threat will clear out underneath for Holmes, the slot for Kerley and the seams for Keller. They also need to go out in the draft and pick up a guy in the 3rd/4th round - there is no need to draft a WR in the first round anymore unless they are a Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson. WRs are the new RBs in college - they are a dime a dozen and the pass heavy college offenses mean you don't need to wait 3 years anymore to develop a WR. Much like a RB they can step in and contribute right away. The funny thing about all this, is that inspite of all this dysfunction, Mark put up 32 total TDs - more than any other QB in this franchise's history. Think about that for a minute - in 50 years of existence, no Jets QB has ever produced that many TDs in a season. We finally get one and now everyone wants to dump the guy. No wonder the Jets haven't won anything in 40 years and the fans are miserable.
Not to mention a neck injury sustained circa week 11. And they still somehow won 8 of their first 13 before it all collapsed in on itself.
Had the Jets D managed to stop Big Ben from completing back-to-back 3rd and LONGS(remember that debacle?), to get the ball back into Mark's hands, I think the Jets really would've marched down the field for a Game-Winning TD. Mark was in a great rhythm at that point. Which is why I emphasize the Steeler game as reference that Mark can only do so much. If his 'D' doesn't help him WHEN IT MATTERS, then the TEAM won't be successful in the long run.
What drove me nuts in 2010 was the number of times we'd get a shot of Schotty scratching his chin on the sidelines while he pondered his playsheet as the Jets offense was stagnating on the field. Then we'd get late game and the Jets were in desperation and the shots of Schotty on the sidelines were him just watching the game and talking into his mic as Sanchez was driving down the field for another late score to win a game. If the offense is better in the hurry-up than it is in the normal flow then the problem is on the sidelines not the field of play.
overpaying but its a good move by the jets because the purpose of the extension is create alot more cap room to sign free agents with which is what this move is all about. contract extensions in the nfl are meaningless since anybody can be cut at anytime. surprising that there are folks who write about football for a living but fail to get this obvious part of the business.

i already agreed on the pitt game. the defense came out flat and it cost us. but let's not act like sanchez was lighting the world on fire. i'm not going to get into what ifs. no one knows what would have happened if the jets got the ball again. out of 6 playoff games, the defense has held the other team to under 20 points 4 times. they let the patriots score 21. that is a strong defense. on the other hand, the offense has scored 20+ just twice. the d is helping way more than the offense has helped. i don't know why you would ignore all of the defense's contributions and act like sanchez is a superstar bogged down with a scrub defense. it's harder to play defense knowing that if you give up 20 points, you're probably going to lose.
