we are already paying Holmes like the top 10 receiver he isnt so i just dont see it as close to feasible unless we shipped off Holmes to someone (which isnt likely to happen).
Idk I guess? I mean it seems like a few of those teams are at least two years away from competing and what do they want to lock up all those resources for in a guy that they have no hope of extending and being a major player when they're major players? Also less likely that any of those teams are going to just want to jump into the guy for 2 years+ at his age. Presumably the Jets would be more willing to make a longer offer. I mean the guy is also drafted by the Jets, never been anywhere but the Jets...can very easily retire (or almost retire) a Jet if he wishes. Why does he want to go somewhere else or bleed us for every last dollar in 2012 cap hit? We're going to give him a nice little contract, and he seems like the kind of guy that appreciates that and the opportunities that he has been given and will try to find a way to make it work for everyone. I'm not guaranteeing that or anything, it's just my read of Pouha as a person from what I've seen. That said if one or two other teams decide to throw the safe at Sione I'm sure he'll oblige them and catch it.
Lol really? I hadn't noticed arm strength was his problem when he consistently sailed passes high and long for his first year and a half. Or when he threw multiple 50+ yards in the air game winning/setting up the win passes into the receiver's bread basket. But yeah, that would be a big knock too?
It seemed to me almost every deep pass Sanchez threw last year was overthrown by at least 10 yards. The year before he threw a lot of under thrown deep passes but he had Edwards there to fight for balls and take away a number of INT opportunities. I don't think he had the trust in Holmes last year to fight for deep balls. My guess is Sanchez was afraid to throw deep last year without Edwards and grossly overthrew to avoid the possibility of INTs. The only two accurate deep balls that I can recall he threw last year were in blowout losses when he had to take a chance.
This is his first and most likely last opportunity to really cash in. He's not going to accept a "nice little contract" to do the Jets a favor. When the Chiefs, who need a run stuffing interior linemen and have over $60 million in cap space back the Brinks truck up to Pouha's door, it's going to be all over but the crying. They can guarantee him twice as much money as we have in cap space and not think twice. There's also a cap floor teams need to satisfy.
All the more reason to say good bye to Pouha, and draft someone like Taa'mu with low round pick. (or Josh Chapman) and groom Kenrick Ellis. Trust Dunbar's expertise as well.
I was planning to wait until Pouha's deal got inked but hell...probably $9M cap break from Sanchez restructure I'll gloat a little early: Told ya so stamp. Told ya so stamp (2).
I dont care how much cap we save from Sanchez's deal, there is absolutely NO reason we should give Pouha a monster deal. 3 years 12 million with escalators/bonuses able to take it as high as 16 or so fine. Otherwise its time to move on and find a better option, while hoping Ellis is ready
Now talking about WR Mike Wallace becomes realistic. dcm, he will get market value for a quality NT. You need to realize how important a quality NT is for this team.
He wont since his age, even though I dont think its a problem, will come into question. He should get around 3.5-5 million, I doubt he sniffs 6 mil. It will be an incentive driven contract for sure.
Is age as big a factor in the trenches as opposed to "skill" positions? We've seen linemen remain damn good throughout their 30s.
Its still an issue, the guys who have gotten those top dollar figures were younger, including Ngata (27 when contract was signed), Wilfork (28 when he signed his deal), and Jay Ratliff (29 when contract was signed). Clearly skill trumps all but it does take some dollar figures away. He is 33 and it will be a concern with a long term deal for the Jets. Id say 3 years 13-14 mil with incentives thats about right for this team and most likely Pouha.
Annnndddd..... Told Ya So Stamp (3), (3.5) [half credit removed for franchising of both potential safeties].
Wallace has been top 5 in receiving yards the last 2 years. While he would be great to have, receiver just is not a priority right now. The O-line and D-line are the major flawed areas. No point in having Wallace with a weak-armed QB who cannot read a defense and no O-line.
