Is it just me or does this sound like a very Jet friendly contract. $20.5mil guaranteed over the next 5 years. Basically that's the money he would have received this year & next year unless we cut him in that time (wouldn't have happened). So 3 new years & $40.5mil is new. Is a non-guaranteed $13.5mil average over his 6th-8th years really that bad for a starting QB
Despite the hate some are spewing, this is a very team friendly contract. Your right on all points of it.
I'd love to see how the 3 years are set up. I can't imagine it is all base, makes no sense for Sanchez, I'd assume there are roster bonuses/guarantee clauses based on his being on the roster on certain dates. So basically sounds like we spread around his current money, and likely have to make a decision after 2 years whether to pay him for the last 3.
Boom. And Tanny announces his presence as the boss with authority. Plays this one like a fiddle and the fools up in arms over Wayne Hunter's million dollar over value pay day are feeling pretty silly about bashing Tanny earlier TODAY. This is really going to be funny when he brings in at least 1-2 dream scenario players this offseason and plugs the rest of the gaps and the haters look like total clowns.
Listen, we have so many holes to fill, this was smart move. Gives us cap space to put more quality around a young QB. Without openin cpa space how ar we going to get better at safety, linebacker O line and WR in a short period of time? Any one care to sit through a 5 yr rebuild while we waste the prime years of Harris, Revis, Brick and Mangold? I sure as fuck dont
I don't think anyone ever questioned Tanny's ability with the cap. The problem has been the actual football decisions in the off season and draft. Every Jet fan knew we were getting cap room because Tanny has been brilliant at that, the actual bringing in and drafting of players has been subpar recently.
Correct me if Im wrong but doesnt this free up about 9 million in cap space? Doesn't 11.25 mill in non guaranteed money spread out over 5 years become 2.25 mill, saving 9 mill? I believe this is how they're most likely structuring this contract. If so that is huge for our FA market.
This was a smart move with all the holes we have. Sanchez isnt the worst QB in the world, hes got his issues but this should help us bring in pieces to help him that he didnt have last year.
The Jets handled this perfectly. Tanny said he looked into Manning because that's what you do when a hall of gamer becomes available, but ultimately decided on Sanchez. Sanchez has said eh recently met with Holmes and the two are getting along. This is all great news and if you don't think so...idk, this is good news lol
Not necessarily no, it depends on what the guaranteed money is, is it pro-rated signing bonus? Is it a roster bonus? etc.
Sounds about right to me. When he restructed Brick Tanny released a statement or at least a tweet through Manish or someone I recall that said he had 10 mill left between Sanchez/cro/holmes restructures. When he came out with that I said to myself well if he said there's 10 million there I'm guessing about 15 in reality if needed. Guess he went to the well with Sanchez for the full 9 and he'll dip into Cro or Holmes if need be for a shiny toy. You should hear the shit people say. Wah wah we won't even be able to sign Pouha. Signing Hunter for 2.5M is going to ruin the franchise (despite there being very few affordable options that are at all likely to be a unilateral upgrade fron Hunter). All of this shit. You can't always hit on your moves and last year we saw a few of them bust out unfortunately with Edwards and Plax et al. But while the closed minded fools think that means we're fucked this year, it should now be clear that we can do pretty much whatever we want with FA this year short of 2 huge acquisitions. Yep...everybody whining about depth whining about depth. Oh...here's 9 Million extra dollars to work with...might find a little depth with that ya think? Now we probably have about $20M to work with for the offseason when you count the min salaries you drop off by replacing any player. Probably at least another 6-8 million in restructures for Cro and Tone if necessary...so yeah. $28M in cap space with maybe $5m needed for rookies and $5M needed for Pouha. Yeah $18M cap space just to fill 2-4 positions of need. IDK Tanny you bum think you can find anyone useful?
Jets: We are sorry mark for putting you under the bus for a week, to show you we are commitment to you, we would like to extend you a 3 YR deal..... Mark: F U Jets: We Love you... Mark: Well, then .... OK Jets: Please Sign Here, Here & Here.. and Here. (Mark Signs Contract.... Ink Dry's) Mark: O BTW FU (fin)
OK, so I was looking at his current contract, and re-reading the articles announcing the deal, and I believe this will save about $5 MM off the cap this year. The articles seem to agree than the $20.5MM guaranteed is in the first two years, now that number is remarkably close to What Sanchez already would make the next 2 years subtracting the roster bonuses. I would guess they eliminated the roster bonuses, guaranteed everything and split it fairly evenly across the two years. That saves the $4MM-$5MM or so this year, and only adds $1MM-$2MM to next year's cap. Likely there is either a roster bonus for after 2013/14 or it can be guaranteed by reaching incentives. Benefit for Sanchez, no chance of being cut after 2012/13 and an extra 5-6MM guaranteed. Benefit for the Jets, cap flexibility this year, can make a clean break after 2013 if they aren't happy with his performance.
