In February 2009, the Jets cut Brandon Moore because he was due a $7m roster bonus on March 5. They later re-signed him to a more cap-friendly deal and he's still here.

They took that risk with a quality, respected right guard, but did not take a similar chance on a player widely considered one of the worst starting tackles in the game.

They could have saved something like $1.5m in cap space by cutting and re-signing Hunter to something near veteran minimum salary. Then they would have an insurance policy at a fair price.

Maybe the Jets were afraid of what Hunter might say if they released him?

So here comes my earlier reply: Tannenbaum could have cut Hunter A FULL MONTH AGO, with NO string attached whatsoever, if cut at that time frame - and he chose to pass that opportunity. Now he is shopping Hunter? Is that a sheer brilliance or what?

Agree 1000%. Here is my bigest concern. While I think Mr. T did some really good things in years past, he has of late lost control of the team's winning chemistry and fully disappointed us with some less than stellar moves. I blame the Jet's regression to his lack of appreciation as to how important some of the pieces he let go last year where to the team (Lowery/Kotch/hell even Edwards) and replace them with selfish turds.
Last year was horrific and with the Hunter deal this year he appears to have gone completely brain dead. Can we depend on him to no shit start rebuilding through the draft and with selected free agents that add immidiate value, leadership and stability without breaking the bank?
He was recognized more as a financial genius than a football guy by many, but the last couple of moves seem to dispute that too.

Them shopping Hunter leads me to believe they will try to adress RT via FA or draft if they move him.

It's a month later. The dust has settled some. And Hunter would not be on the street wondering if he was going to get an offer and angry that he got cut. Also, he's guaranteed 2.5 million next year.

There's some gratitude there at that point I think.

If Tanny manages to actually pull this off, I'll offer to drive him to the airport for free.

It was more of a joke lol but I do like Freeney's game a lot. But you're right, I wouldn't want him at his price and age.

You left out my pet peeve, which is how he failed to adequately replace Turner when he went down in pre-season, which left the Jets totally vulnerable when Mangold got hurt. That move alone arguably cost the Jets a playoff spot.

My all time "favorite" Tanny move is still letting Kendall go and "replacing" him with Bender and Clarke. We should have paid more attention to that stupidity at the time, perhaps.

^Nobody here is saying Tannenbaum is a fuckin genius or hasn't made mistakes so I don't know what your point is.

He sure as fuck has done a better job than Bradway and Parcells (the GM).

I just took a crap about a half an hour ago. I'm interested in trading it. It comes with a 2 mil cap hit, so its a better deal than Hunter.
