Sanchez has yet to produce a losing season. Despite having year of starting experience coming into the NFL, Despite having a OC that my sister could predict what plays were called before they happened, Despite having a revolving door at wide receiver, Despite playing in the intense pressure/scrutiny of NY media, He brought this team to back to back AFC championship games and everyone wants to jump ship after a single .500 season. Sanchez is apparently responsible for everything that went wrong with this team this passed season. While I'll be the first to admit I've seen some bone headed plays, and I've seen him make wrong / bad decisions on more then 1 occasion, I've also seen him lead this team to 4th quarter comebacks and pull out victories in big games when we needed it most. All this anonymous source garbage and calling for Sanchez's head needs to stop. Fill in the holes around him. Mainly a RT that's not a turnstyle, and a WR that can pull DC from Holmes and create separation, and a OC that can actually game plan for our teams strengths and then see what happens. Signing Peyton, as good as he is, Won't fix the JETS problem. Specially if we then have no cap space to move any FAs. My offseason dream - Sign Mario Williams. Draft a Safety and hope that Ducasse with a full Offseason at RT w/ Sparano is able to step into the role we hoped he would last year ( I know, very hopeful but he looked better late and really can't be worse then Hunter ) Can't wait for Sanchez to be playing in the Superbowl with AFC E QBs Manning, Brady, and Fitz on the outside looking in.
Except your memory is poor, because he didn't get tackled, he got whistled down as he released the ball. The refs screwed us over on that safety, but of course this is what you'll do. Find a few bad plays and claim it means Sanchez is bad. I guess Tom Brady's safety in the superbowl was much better, right? That Brady guy is terrible!!! Both had nothing to do with the Giants defense playing lights out, right? Our offense line has absolutely nothing to do with the line penetrating them so quick. LOL. They played above average!! That's hilarious. Everyone on our team played above average except Sanchez, right??? Sanchez needs to read the D better, when Hunter gets manhandled one on one within 2 seconds.
I'd like to say I am not really on the go get manning bandwagon. But how about this for a "complete team shakeup" as reportedly might be in the cards. Get manning, arguably the brightest QB mind possibly ever for the next 3-5 Years, while having McElroy (possibly one of the overall brightest players to come in the league in the past few years) pick mannings brain for those years and than take over once manning is gone. Again im not saying I condone this, just would like to hear some opinion.
Having a cap problem is not worse than having the locker room in 2012 be like the locker room in 2011. Some guys are just plain trouble. The Steelers watched Holmes blossom for 3 years and then they traded him just as he was about to peak. Not because he had the highest value then but because he represented a huge risk in their locker room and they couldn't take the chance of keeping him. That's what a great organization does. The Jets took the Steelers problem off their hands cheap and now they have a problem of their own as a result. If they were a great organization they'd have handled the situation the same way: cut ties and work out the problems that caused. Of course the Steelers had the benefit of lots of in-house talent at WR to tide them through. The Jets? Well I guess they'd have had to go get a FA to fill like they often do instead of developing talent in-house.
McElroy has left a sour taste in my mouth ever since he spoke out about the locker room, But it's an interesting thought. Doesn't take anything away from my previous post that it's not going to help the team win anything if we can't fix the holes around our QB position as well which would be very difficult after signing Manning even with MT's ability to work the Cap.
The cap savings of cutting Sanchez is 9 million with the dead money accounting for 5. Its sad that i could see this happening.
edit peyton blows, he is not a Jet and will never be a Jet. In fact he is one of our biggest enemies and always has been. the running game is the future and sanchez can throw a play-action pass.
Is that the QB or the offense? I don't think a QB could have played better than Sanchez did against the Pats. It's not his fault that the Jets don't have an offensive system that is the same as the Colts or the Saints or the Packers. The Jets were a running team in 09 and 10. The way Sanchez was throwing in those 6 playoff games, had he been in an offense that called for 40+ passes, you likely would have seen 300-400 yards. It comes down to more than one guy. Sanchez threw for well over 200 yards and completed over 70% of his passes in the 2011 title game after the score was 24-0 and the OC took the shackles off. He was only asked to throw 25 passes against the Pats in the previous game.
The Jets made a great moving trading the NFL equivalent of a used lawnmower for him. The issue is giving him 50 mil
You sound like Sanchez's mother. The point is he ran back into the end zone and it had nothing to do with a pinched nerve. You're not very good at this message board thing. That reference is what is called an example. An example of which there are plenty others of crappy plays by Sanchez that cannot be excused by a tightness in a neck muscle. there are many others. Yeah, let's compare Mark Sanchez to Tom Brady. Good one! As for the Jet OL, the stats show that they gave up fewer Qb hits than 21 other teams in the league. It is an urban legend promoted by Sanchez Fans such as yourself that Sanchez had it worse than everyone else when it came to pass protection.
Regarding the bolded part, find me one link, one news story, that said the Stealers thought Holmes was a clubhouse problem. His problem was he was facing a suspension for using pot and some past domestic problems. Yeah, let's just make shit up.
I thought the deal was a steal at the time but I should have realized that the Steelers never give up on value. They really valued Holmes at a 5th round pick despite everything he'd done for them. They were counting things that we couldn't see clearly at the time into the equation and they likely came to the conclusion that Santonio Holmes was too much of a "me first" player and not enough of a teammate. After last season we can pretty clearly see that also.
The Steelers did not trade Holmes because of a locker room issue. They traded him because they- the Steelers - had an image problem. They had a QB that was on trial for rape and a receiver that just received a 4 game suspension for violating the NFL substance abuse program. The Steelers decided they could not keep both and maintain their squeaky clean image. They chose to keep Roethlisberger despite protestations from many fans and dump Holmes. I never heard a peep about Holmes being a problem with regard to team morale. The fear was that he was one violation away from a year's suspension.
5th most sacked in the league states otherwise, especially when half of them weren't even close to his fault. I know you really think that sacks have nothing to do with the offensive line, but you're wrong. Rewatch the games, like I did. You'll see what happens on the line. Wayne Hunter is single handedly responsible for Sanchez' neck injury, a point that keeps getting brushed to the side. Above average is humerus.
Retarded notion to cut Holmes, it would cost us 20 million dollars in dead money. His salary this year is 9 million. That equals 11 million of money being flushed down the drain in an already REALLY tight cap situation. I'm sure that you've heard our number to be around 8 million. So who do you cut because you have to cut Holmes? Blame the contract, but dealing with Holmes this season is something we have to do. If he screws around next year then we can cut him before March and walk away relatively unscathed.
I agree. The fan base is pretty thin skinned to give up on Sanchez after all he's accomplished in his short career thus far. People don't appreciate how blessed the Jets are to have Mark as the QB... or more likely they don't understand history and the idea of the development of a quarterback.
I'm amazed at how it's universally recognized that the Giants pass rush has been the major reason for beating the infallible Brady twice in The Big One. Oh, and they can protect Eli. Yet, the Jets fans who watch the same games that I do, who saw Sanchez being beaten to a pulp because we couldn't defend the pass rush, conclude that Sanchez is a never-will-be. Guess what, we had a good O-Line and a younger defense, and this bum Sanchez helped us to the Championship game. Twice. He wasn't a liability in the playoffs. Tannenbaum miscalculated on Hunter (who can blame him - dude played well), and misdrafted on Ducasse in an effort to replenish our aging O-line. Then the decision on Woody. A 33 year old who was coming off knee sprains and a torn Achilles' tendon. Correct move. The other miscalculation was valuing Asomugha over keeping our WRs for Sanchez. We already had a good CB tandem and had just drafted Wilson the offseason prior. In '11 the passing game was scrunched down and we had no one to pull Safeties from Holmes and Keller. After watching Holmes make all those game changing plays in '10, it's not hard to see why he got the money, especially because he's younger. The Flight Boys never had an attitude problem. We should have kept both and said forget you to the idea of having some 'no fly zone.' Then, of course, in most of our opinions, keeping Schottenheimer around too long. But who gets fired after back-to-back AFC championship appearances? So, our line wasn't as good, our passing attack lacked all the cogs, and our defense is in the middle of transitioning from old to young. We went 8-8... not surprising. Sanchez had some stinkers and boneheaded plays along the way, but he also got injured. By bringing up the injury and the O-Line, I'm not intimating that he is not without blame. Just realize he IMPROVED his numbers despite all of this. Tannenbaum just misfired on too many levels in one offseason, and the O-Line misfire was, in my opinion, forgivable. They're going to right the ship. I can't believe how quickly this fan base has soured on Sanchez. Since this is a Peyton thread, if I didn't get the point across, I don't want any part of him and think we have our guy right now.
that bolded quote just cracked me the f*** up. are you for real? the jets will be at the very bottom of the afc east if manning goes to miami and sanchez will be competing for a backup spot by mid season.
