Are Tannenbaum / Rex chronic gamblers? I agree 100% with the Jets doing due diligence on Manning... however if the Jets decide to sign Manning (and can sign Manning) then they are taking a MAJOR roll of the dice. Assuming Manning even stays healthy, we can't expect to get more than two years out of him... anything more is such an unknown variable you can't hedge on it... that means for the next two years it truly is Super Bowl or bust. With Peyton Manning, one point less than a Super Bowl victory is failure. It's either Super Bowl or regime change. With Sanchez you can continue to develop the team in the short term and the long term. Obviously a healthy Manning is better than Mark Sanchez right now (or ever) however football isn't a one player sport. If it were, Manning would have more than one Super Bowl under his belt. I agree that the Jets have (for the most part) the tools in place to make a serious run at the Super Bowl with Manning... but if they attempt that run its all or nothing for Rex and Tannenbaum. I don't believe it's a bet they'll ultimately make.
It doesnt matter how good Miami is but they will beat us both times with that team I listed out!! Looking at it from the jets you dont want to play that twice and brady twice. If you lose all 4 and split bills then you already have 5 losses and need to beat everyone else. Not looking to good!
Listening to NFL RADIO on Sirius it is sounding more and more logical to think Manning would wind up in Arizona. They can trade Kolb have Skelton waiting in the wings, bring in Wayne to compliment Fitzgerald and the defense is pretty solid. I really don't see the Jets in the mix in Peyton's mind at all.
You should be. If Manning goes to the Phins, they automatically become the Pats biggest competition in the AFCE. And the Phins kicked the Jets ass with Matt Moore at QB for crying out loud. The Jets would be left fighting it out with the Bills to see who can stay out of the AFCE cellar.
Uhhh... you are clueless. The Jets pounded the piss out of Matt Moore in the first game on national TV then lost on the last possession of the second game. That's an ass kicking?
I voted yes, but ftr that's assuming he's healthy and that any deal that brings him here is reasonable. I know those are big assumptions. But I am also concerned he ends up on the fish if the Jets don't get him. I'd like to believe he'd prefer Houston or Arizona, but... And yes, I think it unlikely that Sanchez improves much, so there's that.
I'll be honest, I didn't read through that whole thing - nor do I think it was necessary to break down every single game anyway. But I probably don't even have to read it if you are not going to acknowlege the Defense sucked balls in the Eagles, and Patsx2 games. Where Vick and Brady both picked the Jets apart with complete ease... I never once said the Offense didn't cost the Jets any games (thats why I never mentioned Balt, Mia, etc. etc.) They sucked, but nobody has claimed they were "elite." Bottom Line the Jets finished 8-8 (completely average) because they had an average Defense and an average Offense - I dont give a sh%t what the numbers indicate because games against pathetic teams like Jax, KC, Wash..are going to skew it and make the defense look better than they really are.
I think he will go to either the Fins or Jets maybe even the Broncos. I highly doubt he goes to any NFC team.
If he wants to win, he's coming here. All the other likely candidates: Miami, Arizona, Seattle, Washington are losers. Arizona might be a QB away, but the franchise has a history of being a "loser" franchise. The Mannings have a fetish about avoiding that. Miami has been bad for awhile and isn't as close to being relevant as people think. Seattle is awful. He's not going to Washington to play his brother twice a year. The Texans would be interesting, but would they be willing to change their whole offense up? I don't see Peyton bootlegging much. Peyton knows the Jets D, and how good Rex is. He can come and be the "passing coordinator" the Jets were looking for earlier this offseason. Or Tom Moore can. Rex and Tanny would likely let Peyton write his own ticket, and Peyton is capable of killing the locker room cancer we had last season. It really just comes down to if Manning wants to win, and if the Jets are willing to throw away Sanchez.
Nnamdi who? Thanks for bringing that up. What a disaster that was. It was a stupid idea. They could've re-signed Cro for what he's actually worth and Joseph Smith for the $ they put aside for that very overrated corner. Let's not go on another wild goose chase for Peyton.
The more I think about it the more I think he's going to wind up in a dome or at worst a place that does not get too cold on game day in December and January. Miami is kind of bad for him because then he has to face Belichik and Rex 4 times a year. He also has to play a game in Buffalo. That's 5 games he isn't going to want to play each of the next couple of seasons. People are now talking about Baltimore behind the scenes but that's a non-starter because he has to play the Steelers twice and has games in Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Cincinnati, all cold weather stadiums in the fall/winter. Houston works but they're probably not that desperate at this point after making the playoffs with Schaub out. If they were going to spend the money it would be on Mario Williams. Tennessee works because he gets a road game at Houston and at Indy and Jacksonville is not exactly warm weather in the winter but it's not a deep freeze either. Nashville can get frigid in December and January but it tends to stay above the 40 degree line that Peyton suffers below. Jacksonville works but it's not Tennessee, so... Kansas City does not work. Weather at home in the second half of the season and a game in Denver. Washington has one potential bad game a year in NJ. Other than that it works. Dallas would be great and Peyton Manning would probably be there in a heartbeat if Jerry Jones batted his baby blues at him but there's the "what to do with Tony Romo?" problem. Arizona works. Dome. Seattle works. Dome. I'm thinking it's going to come down to Arizona and Seattle. Miami will likely be used to drive up the price. Yeah Peyton's got a vacation home there but playing Belichik and Rex twice a year each, one of the games potentially in frigid weather just isn't going to look good to a guy with Peyton's recent medical history. Playing a game in Buffalo in December is going to look like hell incarnate. If Dallas or Tennessee made a big attempt to get Peyton then he's there but otherwise it's going to be dome with two other domes in the division. It just makes sense.
Enough Manish I don't read him anymore. His unnamed sources only serve to cause trouble. He's worse than Cimini.
Pretty funny that you put that as one of your reason for him to come to the Jets. Arizona was in the SB recently has an excellent HC and a solid young team along with one of the most dynamic WR in the game. The big draw back is they are in the same division as SF which is a nightmare team for any QB to face twice. The Jets can be looked at many ways by outsiders along with being percieved as a perenial loser, we also have a bad locker room and a HC with no Offensive chops at all.
This is a flawed point of view. Just cause the team went 8-8 doesn't mean the team had an average offense and defense. The parts don't always equal the whole. The Pats went 13-3 last year, would you say they had a great offense and great defense? No, they had one, not the other. I could go on and say this about a ton of teams.
The Jets had a better than average D last year but the idea that they were in any way a dominating d or anywhere close to the D we put on the field in 09 is a lie. The teams D was worse in 10 than it was in 09 and worse in 11 than it was in 10.
And you analogy is just as flawed. It doesn't matter if you have a poor, average or great offense and defense. All that matters is W's and L's.
Its true that just because you have an average record doesn't mean you have average parts - thats why I chose the eye test and we can see that there were games in which your so-called "elite" defense looked less than average, and games that they looked better than average. But over the course of the season I would say they were an average defense ... A flawed point of view is looking at the statistics and deducing that a team's parts are reflective of that. You can look at ESPN's stats and see the Jets finish ranked 5th in total Defense and call them elite. But you see the Giants finished 27th in total defense in the same ranking - would you make the claim that the Giants defense is one of the worst in the league??? Hell no they kicked some powerful offense's asses to win the superbowl. For that matter, the Jets are 5th and Jacksonville is 6th... Jacksonville Jaguars - you know how elite that defense is!!!
This is incorrect, and you're only twisting the argument. You can't rack up W's in this league without being serviceable in at least one aspect. I agree all that matters is W's and L's, but you can't look SOLELY at the record (W's and L's) and determine that how efficient the parts are. This is my main argument. If you looked at the Pats record last year with that thinking you would think they were great on both sides of the ball. Every NFL fan knows this isn't true. The Pats fielded a horrendous defense, they won that many games mainly because of their offense. This isn't a difficult concept to understand.
