Pitt is going to tender him as a 1.

Pitt has right to match any offer he signs or receive your 1st round pick.

They don't have the money to match.

Mike Wallace for the 16th pick. I know there are more pressing needs, but i say yes

    No thanks.

He's going to command more money than Holmes AND we need to trade our 1st for him? I'll pass.

Personally I would do it if money wasn't an issue but we cannot commit that much money per year to another WR. We also barely have the cap space to sign our rookies and free agents, I doubt we could even fit his contract, which is most likely around 10 million per year.

It's something I'd consider if I didn't like who was available at #16 and we couldn't find a partner to trade down. I don't know if that a realistic draft day decision a team could make though ...

edit - yea i forgot about the whole salary thing - so that's probably not doable.

  5. He's not the power forward the WR corps needs

Horrific, Horrible, Horrendous, Awful, Terrible idea

With Holmes locked up long term, our salary cap being incredibly tight, having mammoth needs @ olb, safety, ol, te, question marks @ qb, lesser needs @ hb. It makes absolutely 0 sense to give up an early 1st round pick to pay ANOTHER wr mammoth money, on what would likely be a 1 year rental, before we would be forced to either give him a monster contract similar to Holmes or let him go.

So unless a team wants to offer us a 1st for Holmes and then we use that to get this guy, then its beyond unrealistic and logical in every which way.

Hell with the new rookie salary rules in placed, it would make a bajillionty times more sense to just draft Floyd who would then be ours for the next 5 years for an incredibly cap friendly salary, rather than giving up that very same pick for a 1 year monster deal on a player without a prayer of us resigning him

If our draft pick was #32 it would be a bad idea (due to salary cap), at 16 its an absolutely horrific one that would earn everyone involved an instant trip to the unemployment line

no. simply no. we don't need receivers, we need a pass rusher badly.

While I don't think we can get Wallace and think its not the best idea, we definitely need a WR.

    Right now are roster is

    1.Holmes
    2.Kerley
    3. Turner
    4. Payne
    5. Riley

It's quite clear we need a #2 WR and maybe even a deep threat WR.

    No way

For a first round pick? He better be amazing, like Randy Moss when he tries amazing. If the Jets could afford him, which they can't, I'd give a 2nd rounder for him tops.

...um. Have you watched Mike Wallace? He's one of if not the best deep threat in the league. No WR in this draft at our pick would be as good as him, if we could afford him I'd send them a first in a heart beat.

Don't over rate draft choices, what 2nd rounder can play at the caliber Wallace can play at? I'd say a whopping none.

    Ok

I understand he's good, but the Jets can win without an outstanding deep threat. The team did fine with Braylon at that position. I'd rather them use the 1st pick on a pass rusher. Especially since this WR FA class is so deep. No need to give up a 1st round pick for this guy.

Tanny would be insane to invest the kind of money Wallace will command.

A team that might match Pittsburgh's tender could be New England. It usually isn't Belichick's style making a huge splash, but they have the ammo to pull it off....just something to think about.

Your point was if we could afford it you still don't want him, you essentially went in a circle.

This year we need to fill our need at WR big time but within our cap space. If we somehow did create the room for Wallace, our resigned players, and rookies I would do it in a heart beat. Wallace could be the different between an AFC Championships game and the Superbowl.

Also, pass rushing is clearly a big need but dont be surprised if that can't be done this year, even with a 1st round OLB , we cant expect a rookie to come in and be a sack artist, that will take time. So for now , if we can, we need to take any borderline guaranteed good player that is possible.

Did u see what our offense looked like without a deep threat? Braylon was our deep threat, the FO thought they could replace him with burress, and they were very wrong. I think he would cost too much money and hinder our chances to fill the other holes we have. However, if we had the cap flexibility I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I'd say the 49ers and Bears would be the biggest contenders. Both have the money and a lower first rounder.

Yes we do need a deep threat. What I'm saying is we don't need to give up a first rounder to get one.

The kid's a stud but our cap situation will not allow it. If it wasn't for that than yes I'd be all for it
