Well said There are way more important things than RB this off season. You can't just throw out the whole team, you need to do well with what you have. Besides the Jets were only 8-8. They aren't that bad. They are a few players away from being the best in the AFC, or at least contending for the #1 spot in the AFC.
I have to agree fully with this. Other than the fact that we've got a couple of guys that are somewhat unproven to completely unproven in McKnight and Powell, NFL teams have proven that a great running back isn't a necessity any longer. Many teams are doing it with two or even three backs. If the Jets can get the line solidified, the backs they have will be just fine. No need to spend all sorts of money on a back. I like him too but after the year he had he's going to command top dollar and he has me firmly believing "contract year breakout" with him.
I have no ability to multi-quote. This is my biggest challenge in life, even with the button that says ",multi quote" Anyway..... Kevin Smith? Can he even walk for 5 minutes in a row without exploding his spleen or asshole? Leon Washington? He was barely even a running back for us Patsfan, I actually enjoy your posts......And I agree with you a lot...but you got yer ass handed to ya in the BJGE debate by ole boy over there....just sayin Shonn greene blows ass so any of the FAs mentioned would be starting OVER him
Hahaha, I couldn't figure it out for awhile either. I finally just hit multi-quote for every post I wanted to quote. Do the same - click M-Quote for the posts you want to quote, and then when you hit (regular) quote (even if you have to switch pages) it will multi-quote all of your selected posts.
I'm going to take a wild swing and say that when you have an offensive coordinator who calls 59 passes vs a team that you need to run against to beat that you're not going to see the full potential of the running game come to fruition.
He called 68 passes. There were 5 sacks and 4 penalties on pass plays. The game plan was clearly designed to shift the blame for the Jets poor season squarely onto Sanchez shoulders. Schotty obviously was afraid he was going to lose his job and tried very hard to throw Sanchez under the bus before that happened. If Sanchez had thrown 5 picks it might have worked.
Seems like he called more than 68, because Sanchez audibled 'kill' a number of times into a running play.
LOL. With dumbass Schotty, and a busted offensive line, he still got 1000 yards for the season, missing one game. Jets fan? hmmmmmmm. Schotty saw how effective Shonn Greene was against the Chiefs, then decides to barely use him at all the following 2 games. We could draft a late round RB, but we have WAY bigger needs than a RB.
Greene is an OK back but I don't think he's anything special. He's a nice thumper but rarely makes anyone miss or breaks a long run and seems to always have a nagging injury of some sort. I don't think defenses lose sleep at night knowing they have to stop him.
Getting running backs in free agency is always sort of iffy because you're paying for past performance. I think Ronnie Brown is probably finished. Fresh legs are probably not likely for a 30 year old back with a history of leg injuries. I'm assuming Tolbert gets overpaid by a team looking to run the football. It shouldn't be us. BenJarvus Green-Ellis averaged 3.7 yards per carry last year, and only averaged more than 4 yards a carry once over the last 8 games. He's very overrated. I think Schotty had a one sized fits all running game that didn't operate to get guys like LT and McKnight the ball in space. Sparano would be better. -X-
Quick, who's the FB on the Patriots? Look at BJE run instead of his YPC. He's usually lining up in a single back formation in a pass happy offense. He'd likely be much more successful in a more traditional running offense like ours given the way he runs. I'd prefer to pick up a back that is more of a playmaker, but BJE is a harder runner than Shonn Greene IMO.
At the same time when BJGE is playing defenses are almost entirely focused on stopping Brady. Who is gonna give shit about some scrub HB when you have the greatest regular season QB in the history over there ? It was blatantly obvious whenever we played them, we would put our small coverage guys out there and they would just blast it up the gut against nickle corners and small guys I would think his YPC should be quite high considering, where as Greene is running into loaded boxes from teams completelyyyy ignoring the deep ball. And since our wrs get no serperation and our TEs cant block, it dont help either
I think Peyton and Marino might have an argument for that title... But you do have a point, why worry about the 4ypc on the ground, when you have to worry about Brady terrorizing you.
My, we are being very conspiratorial, aren't we? Schotty thought he would keep his job not by trying to win the game but to take an approach where he knew Sanchez would fail and did so by risking losing the game? I don't understand why Sanchez defenders are so upset with an OC who put the ball in Mark's hands, but perhaps that's because they know he's limited.
68 goddamn passes. For a QB who was struggling under pressure already against one of the most pressure-producing pass rushes in the NFL. Schotty should have had his head examined after that one. The common thread at this point on Schotty's departure is that the last game had nothing to do with it. I fully believe that. Nobody in their right mind could have thought that giving Sanchez 68 dropbacks against the Giants in a game that was pretty tight through three quarters was even a remotely acceptable strategy. Rex Ryan certainly wouldn't have thought it was smart.
RB is not a need Exactly. Shonn Greene will do much better with Sporano and a healthy o-line. Wasting $ on a rb would be stupid, especially when McKnight has so much potential. Do you guys not remember when he ran all over Buffalo?
To say that the number of passing plays was not smart is not the same as saying it was intended that Sanchez would fail.
Mark Sanchez threw his career high for passes in that game. What were the odds that was going to work against the Giant's pass rush? 1%? Maybe 10% at the outside? It was intentional sabotage designed to make Sanchez look bad or if it improbably worked to buff Schotty some in the critical days at the end of the season when everything was up in the air. I actually think Schotty was already gone at that point. Sanchez season had finally derailed in Philly after threatening to derail at multiple points along the way. I think Schotty knew the Jets were going to have to go a different direction after the season and he used Sanchez career as a hail mary to try to save himself. There are coaches that you respect for the job they did even if the results weren't what you wanted in the end and they had to go. Then there are coaches that just look like self-interested bastards out for their own interest and to hell with everybody else. Schotty is more of the second than the first in my book. I just saw him do too many incomprehensible things trying to make his systems work over the years. The only QB he adapted too willingly was Brett Favre and the only reason he did that was he had no choice because everybody else was bending over backwards to get Favre onboard and anybody who stood away from the crowd in that endeavor was going to find himself in a very lonely place in a hurry. The difference between Schotty and Mike Martz is that Mike Martz's systems actually worked. Other than that they're birds of a feather.
