Who's fault is that? It's NOT like Brady was the #1 pick in the 2000 draft. He went in the 6th round. The Jets took Chad Pennington in the 1st round, a pretty good QB but not one who'll be in Canton like Brady. Somebody on the Pats saw something in Brady, and it was Belichick who nurtured it. What did Parcells do with QBs? He never asked his QBs to do very much when he had the great defense and running game on the Giants, where he had his greatest success. When he had a decent D and a decent running game, he got by with Vinnie T. When he didn't have a great defense to save his bacon, he couldn't overcome it. Drew Bledsoe carried the Pats to the SB not the NE defense, and Parcells got his butt whooped. Parcells had Bledsoe and Romo in Dallas, but couldn't get that team very far, either. I think he won 1 playoff game. His contributions to Miami's QBs were oft-injured Chad Pennington, Chad Henne, and Pat White. He also left the Fins the loyal Tony Sparano who followed the Tuna from Dallas to South Florida and has now used his "Parcells connection" to migrate north to New Jersey. What Parcells should have done was stay retired after leaving the Jets. His stints with Dallas and Miami have really tarnished his reputation, especially his work in Miami, where he was more or less "kicked upstairs" to keep him from doing more damage. The game has changed in the last 20 years since Parcells won his last Super Bowl, and he never realized it. He kept trying to use the formula that won him SBs with the Giants, but changes in the game and imposition of the salary cap made it impossible to amass the talent that Parcells needed to run his kind of game. He also wasn't all that great a talent evaluator; he left the Giants because they wouldn't give him more control over player selection. History shows the Giants were right.
Actually, BB knew back in the 2000 draft that Brady would be a HOF QB. BB also knew that the other 31 teams would pass on Brady 6 times. Why draft him any earlier when BB knew he would be availble in the 6th round?
Yeah, Brady was an absolute stud at the Combine, and he had a great resume at Michigan ... backup to Drew somebody-or-other who went on to fail as a MLB player and then as an NFL QB.
A-when there's no one else in sight, A-in crowded lonely night Well, I wait so long for my love vibration And I'm dancing with myself Oh oh. Dancing with a-myself, Oh, oh, dancing with myself Well, there's nothing to lose And there's nothing to prove, well, Dancing a-with myself, oh, oh, oh, oh.
Not your original point though. You said it is only on this board it is brought up, but other boards have threads dedicated to it, not just posts. It is just a funny coincidence that will always be brought up. It will remain relevant and on peoples mind. You think the curse of Bambino was real? Of course not but a bunch of fans thought that up as an excuse for why their team couldn't win. Everytime the Red Sox didnt win, the curse was brought up. Same thing with NE and spygate. Is it fair that it gets brought up, of course not. But its a coincidence that still holds true.
The guy has his team winning 12+ games with a bunch of undrafted nobodys. He's a good coach without a doubt. Our own coach Rex Ryan says hes the best in the game. He won the division with Matt Cassell, and I bet they would still be a 9 win team with Ryan Mallet. The guy is smart, however Tom Brady has definetly compensated for his lack of talent defensively the last few years.
Oh man I wish I could find Favre's pregame speech before that game for you. I think it went something like "if we win, we win. if we lose, we lose" Least motivational thing I have ever heard.
There is no way they win 9 games with Ryan Mallet at quarterback. The team is a lot different than the 2008 team that was coming off of an 18-1 season with a good defense. The defense blows now as you all saw on Sunday. The team has gone from great defense and decent quarterback/offense to great offense/great quarterback and no defense.
rex took shitty ass sanchez, shotty and bunch of really overrated players to two AFC championships. If you ask me thats more impressive than anything Belicheck has done. hell most fans of every other team consider just about anyone on the jets roster to completely suck! Rex must be a genius!
Did you watch the 1998 season and AFC championship game or are you just looking at your sports almanac? The Jets were the better team and should have won that game. The Jets were in control of that game at halftime. If it hadn't been for the turnovers in the second half the Jets would have won that game. Turnovers differential has been mostly positive for Parcells coached teams, he even cut every player to have fumbled in that game (Byars, Megget, Van Dyke, etc,). Just becuase the Patriots got one game further than the Jets (in a different year) does not mean that they were the better of the two teams or that Parcells did a better job coaching the Patriots than he did coaching the Jets. One factor is that Parcells had less time with each team as he went along. In the Jet's case the injury to Vinny Testaverde had a huge impact on the team's fortunes yet they almost rode Ray Lucas into the playoffs (how did Lucase work out for the Fins without Parcells? Not so good, huh?). The Jets also had to give up a lot of Jets picks as a penalty for bringing Parcells in (players that Bellicheck inherited with the Patriots). Another problem is that he only coached three of the teams in question. Parcells did a good job in the front office but as a coach his impact was so much bigger.
Yea, I do remember that. Man, it sucked being a Jets fan for 3 hours that day, especially with the outcome.
Yeah, once whatever team pulled away with a huge lead and the Jets couldn't make it I wasn't upset when they lost (first and probably only time in my life). I knew the Ravens would abuse Chad and that joke of a playoff team in Miami. Although the last the play the Jets drew up was creative of Mangini. He put the DB's in at O line and used 5 receivers for the lateral play. Never saw or heard of that before.
Guys like Tony Dungy are the worst coaches. 1 fucking Ring with Peyton Manning?!? im sure a bunch of coaches could have won multiple championship. Coaching is overrated, thats the bottomline. I look at guys like Brian Billick as superior coaches than people like Belichick and Dungy.
Oh and if you want more evidence Belichick sucks. In 1989 Bud Carsons Browns went to the AFC Championship and lost. The Next year Belichick took over and went 3-13 and continued to compile up a record of 41-55 over 5 seasons after picking up a team that was a game away from going to the Super Bowl. He only made the playoffs once as a wildcard and all the other seasons finished in 3rd or 4th place. He drove the Browns into the ground and they havent recovered since. There is nothing to be afraid of once when Brady retires. Belichick wont last long and will proably be fired if he doesnt retire by then.
