Obviously nobody wants him if it doesn't. Manning thinks he will be fine..I'll take that over anything Polian has to say.
So you want to keep Mark and set this franchise back even longer than is what you are saying? Better, well cheaper for the same is Campbell, Orton, Henne...I can keep going... Cutting a 3rd yr Qb sounds good to me right now, i point to tons and tons of high 1st rnd pick busts such as Harrington and Russell that the best thing these teams did was get rid of them...
If the Jets sign Manning, which I don't even think is a realistic option, they wouldn't be able to keep Sanchez.
Sanchez is in the tier w/ Flacco, Ryan and the others and Peyton is not tier 1 anymore until he proves he can play again. Tier 1 is Brady, Rodgers, Brees and Ben.
Eli is an enigma at this point. He clearly has the talent to be a top 5 QB however he has never ranked in the top 5 in any of his 8 seasons in the NFL. He's not a superstar QB. If you look at the tier 1 QB's in the league they have ALL been in the top 5 in the last few seasons, and most of them repeatedly. As an example: Ben Roethlisberger, who is also on the cusp of tier 1 has ranked 5th overall in 2 of the last 3 seasons playing in weather in Pittsburgh. Eli? 11th, 17th, 7th.
no way...that guy threw 25 INTs last year and when he won the SB in '07 his didn't have a good season either...he's not close to a tier 1 qb... i'm sorry i am not willing to put a qb in tier 1 after 1 good year of performance...same goes w/ newton and dalton
I don't buy it, he was a play or two away from leading his team to a 3rd straight postseasonless year. The D is playing better than our D has in our last 2 playoff runs, Eli is playing very well for the most part but put a real elite QB like a Brady on the Giants- you think they only win 9 games in that weak division? Eli is getting way too much credit, he's a good QB that has been playing very well recently but b/c he got hot in 2007 and now in '11 at the right time doesn't make him elite. Let's not forget this man the 25 INTs just one short year ago and missed the last 2 postseasons. I don't think Eli has to win next week but if he has another season like this next year then I would begin to enter him in the discussion of elite QBs. We know #s never tell the whole story but he only threw 3 more TDs than Sanchez and had 2 less INTs plus led his team to one more win and sanchez is awful while Eli is elite? a true elite QB wins much more than 9 w/ that Giant team.
+1. Couldn't agree more with this post. This Eli-is-an-elite-QB viewpoint is ridiculous. Does anyone realize how many BREAKS the Eli and the Giants got that ended up with them in the playoffs? Can you imagine what people would say if those same breaks occurred with the Jets and Sanchez? They would say one word : LUCKY. They would not say Sanchez is Elite..blahblahblah...like they are saying with Eli.

This. People pretend that people like me want Manning regardless of his health. That is simply false. The people that want Manning only do so if he passes a physical and has top neurosurgeons sign off on Manning being good to go, and that he is not one hit from re-injuring his neck. And if that is the case, I dont know how anyone can say we should stick with Sanchez over Manning. That to me would be the definition of insanity in the dictionary.
Absolute nonsense. Eli was elite the day he was drafter overall number 1. He either set or tied 45 single game or season records at Old Miss. He won the Maxwell award, the Johnny Unitas award, SEC player of the year and was runner up for the Heisman. He was elite from day one and arguably better than his brother coming out. The giants gave up a virtual ton of picks to get him away from San Diego. Sanchez? He played one year at USC. Eli plays on a team that has always stressed the defensive game and in turn spends most of their money on that side of the ball.
That is just false. Manning, if he suits up, is still in the top tier. Unless his game regresses on the field, to say otherwise is just false. And Sanchez is not in a tier with Flacco or Ryan. If you think he is, you have never seen the other 2 play. Flacco might make questionable decisions, but he has a great arm, and decent accuracy. He can throw outside the numbers with ease and throws a great deep ball. Sanchez does none of those things. He gets a 55% completion rate by throwing nothing but short passes, which is quite frankly pathetic. And Ryan is also infinitely better for similar reasons. You want a tier for Sanchez, start with the likes of Tim Tebow, Josh Freeman and Tavaris Jackson. That is Sanchez's tier.
LMAO! Thanks. I needed a good laugh. You seriously think that after accomplishing what Sanchez accomplished his 1st two years in the league, that he'd STILL be in the same realm as Freeman and Jackson? What a joke! And notice I didn't mention Tebow 'cause at least he managed to actually win a playoff game so early in his career too. Huge props for that.
Manning needs to prove he is 100% healthy before we can put him bakc in tier 1. Have you seen Flacco and Ryan in January? Put Sanchez on Baltimore and they have a SB app or 2 in the last 4 years. Ryan was awesome against the Giants, I saw a cool, confident QB slinging it all over the field. Matt Ryan has been in the league longer than Sanchez w/ talent as good as Sanchez and he has ZERO playoff wins. Flacco wins playoff games every year but he hasn't played well in January like Sanchez has. There is no doubt Sanchez is in that tier. Sanchez at his worst against the same Giants defense was at least able to lead us to a couple of TDs and had 1 called back and his C fumbled one at the Giants 1. Ryan was an embarrassment against the Giants.
Eli has a superbowl ring, threw for nearly 5000 yards (4th in the league) this year and has a shot at superbowl #2 in less than two weeks. He has thrown for over 4000 passing yards in each of the last 3 years. I never said Sanchez is awful, he has plenty of warts at this point though. He's a young developing QB and he isn't close to the level of Eli right now. I think Eli is on the cusp. I wouldn't quite put him at the level of Rodgers/Brady/Brees/Roethelisberger yet but if he wins another ring?
Right now, Eli is a top 5 NFL QB. He absolutely got the crap knocked out of him last week against the 49ers and still took his team to the Super Bowl.
Something else to consider : How many years in College did Eli have? How many did Mark have? One. He'd be basically a Rookie coming into the League THIS SEASON.
