Seymour works as a great DT in a 4-3, especially since his playing weight is 30 pounds heavier on average.
Williams had 5 sacks in 5 games while making the transition to 34 OLB this year. The guy has the physical talent to get to the QB no matter the scheme. For him its going to be about who pays him the most. Sadly I don't see the Jets having the caps space.
Hes definitely a guy the Patriots will look at if he becomes available in free agency. The Patriots have to use some cap room to get a deal done for Welker, he's a free agent this year but they will most likely franchise him. The Pats switched to a primarily 4-3 defense this year, but still run a hybrid defense that shifts in and out from 4-3 to 3-4, so Mario Williams if healthy would be an excellent fit in their scheme. I also think they'll have plenty of cap room to sign a big name free agent this year, but they may also want to target one of the many free agent wide receivers that are going to hit the market next year like Marquis Colston, Manningham from the Giants, Vincent Jackson and quite a few more solid receivers that are going to hit free agency. Mario Williams sure would be nice though, if he really becomes a FA, im sure there are going to be 31 teams interested in his services, including maybe the Texans, depending on what he demands on the open market. They don't have a problem with his play, they just dont want to pay him a boat load of money.
It would be sad to see the Pats screw over someone that has offered such good service and value over the years.
He was able to get to the QB but he has some real problems in coverage and he isn't especially physical against the run game. My thinking is, why would he sign in a place where he has to continue to learn the 3-4 when he's already a top 5 4-3 end in the league? Plus, he'd probably be able to make more money as a 4-3 end.
Hes going to be asking for a deal somewhere close/more to what Damarcus Ware got. Jets are not going to take on something like that.
James Harrison also has issues in coverage. Thats why on Passing downs he's rushing the vast majority of the time. As for the not physical in the run game, Williams looked fine in the game I saw. Not sure where you coming up with that one from. Julius Peppers often said before he signed with the Bears that he wanted to play in a 34, but as always money talked and he kept on playing in a 43 D. Why learn? If a 34 team offers him The most he's probly goign to sign. He'll be a two down linebacker and a 43 type end in a nickle package. He's still going to rack up sacks while getting paid the most or near the most of any pass rusher in the NFL. He'll follow the $ pure and simple.
I would love if the Jets could get him. but a lot of teams could use him, could turn into Aso all over again.
