Ray Lewis is a great teammate and always has been. He has played for years on teams with great defenses and dysfunctional offenses but has never called out the offense from what I can remember. Comparing Ray, one of the greatest defensive players to ever play the game, to Santonio Holmes who isn't even a top 10 receiver in the game today just isn't right. The reason why I mention Santonio is because basically he is the only one who has publicly called out any of his teammates. Ray may have gotten caught up with the wrong crowd early in his career but he has always been a class act on the field and in the lockerroom.
Rex has brought his team with less talent to 2 of the last 3 AFCCG's, Harbaugh does it this year with the same result and Rex is a terrible HC and Harbaugh was the right choice. Did I get it?
Typical Jets fans. The other coach is better the other QB is better if we only had that guy. Come on guys it is getting old you can find fault in anybody.
Of all the Head Coaches who have coached at least three years and never had a losing season, Rex is one of the worst. Bottom 10 anyway.
That makes absolutely No sense whatsoever. So was Herm and Mangina better Coaches? Excuse me but I'd rather take...WINNING over anything else. Thank you.
Rex is a better HC than Harbaugh. Harbaugh got handed the keys to a ferrari with two of the greatest defensive players ever with Lewis and Reed, including Terrel suggs and Haloti Ngata two of the best in the game today. Not to mention an all purpose back like Ray Rice. And Flacco > Sanchez. Rex on the other hand got handed an organization a few weeks removed from the Favre debacle, with a lesser QB, defense he had to build from scratch with just Revis and Harris as good cornerstones. And the offense was in shambles then, as it is now. Once the Ravens core players decline in the defense, we'll see what kind of coach harbaugh really is.
Wait a minute, I just seen an article of them bitching about the calls. Ravens complaing about Wiifork taking his helmet off, the catch that didnt get checked by the refs..
My post was not to say who is a better coach or not. My interest was today's BaltimoreSun analysis on yesterday's game by a beat columnist -- echoed by many fans in the Message Boards -- that the reason a special teams coach (Harbaugh) got the job over a top-ranked DC (Ryan) was not because Rex was going to be one of those great OC or DC's who turns out to be lousy HC's (Morningweig, Lynehan, Wade Philips, etc)....but because the specific reason they passed over Ryan was his coaching style. That style is pretty much 'hands-off, buddy-buddy with the players' which is OK if you are a DC or OC. But it is PROBLEMATIC if you are the HC and we saw why this year. It wasn't just 'a problem' like Herm Edwards (or Harbaugh's) clock-management skills, something that you can correct over time or hire someone to help. This is a core personality trait that you wonder if it will happen again. Think about what happened this year: (1) Rex said he had no idea about the problems in the lockerroom, despite the blowups which surrounded the Mason release. (2) If true, it shows how out-of-touch he was (bad). (3) If not true -- if he was aware but thought it was 'fixed' -- then that's arguably WORSE because he let something he knew was a problem fester and the ticking bomb went off in Week 15 and sabotaged the Jets season. (4) He appointed as CAPTAIN not just someone who didn't address locker-room problems but someone who WAS THE PROBLEM and quit on his team. Appointing Holmes to be Captain was like recommending Bernie Madoff to manage your retirement monies. Having said all this....I think in his WFAN interview that Rex knows he totally f****** up the 2011 season. This obsession with Brian Schottenheimer and 59 throws against the Giants is 100% bull****. It's the lack of knowledge about what is going on with his locker room and whether his QB is throwing alot or very little that needs to be addressed....not 59 throws vs. 52 throws vs. 45 throws etc.
It's about results on the field, and so far Rex has had better results on the field than Harbaugh has had - with less talent.
What a funny thread. Rex Ryan and John Harbaugh have one thing in common. Neither has won a Conference Championship.
Wade Phillips won one playoff game I believe and had multiple losing seasons? Off point there. I admire you don't let facts get in you way. That HC has a winning record and multiple playoff appearances, something very simple that many coaches don't have. He overachieved his first two years here with the players we had. If Rex is a lousy HC, than there are about 15-20 head coaches who are terrible by your standards.
What are you talking about? You need to go take a look at our roster the year Rex backed into the playoffs, he should've won the division that year. This team was a top 5 team talent-wise when Rex took over, now it's barely top 15 because Rex simply has not replaced the talent that left. He did not "over-achieve" by his own standards he woefully under-achieved. Only Jets fans think getting smashed in the AFCCG two years in a row is over-achieving. Why does my fanbase have such a loser mentality? I heard this same harping about Herm "but Herm got us to the playoffs, one 1/4 away from the AFCCG" awesome...
A stand-up guy, Ray-Ray. The kind of guy you can depend on to cover up a homicide, dispose of bloody clothes, and chuck a knife in the river. His comments were solid. And yet.....
