agreed - both QB's played at their usual level - though manning get a couple breaks on possible int's by the niners secondary. all comes down to the punt returner. we can all speculate but that dictated the outcome. especially the first one when it hit his knee. unreal. these guys can be as dumb as a stump.
I know Eli will get all the credit but he threw 2 awful passes where he got lucky SF Dbs collided on each to break up INTs and he led them to 10 pts in the 2nd half and OT- both after recovering muff/fumbles deep in SF territory.
also don't forget the quickest forward progress whistle i have ever seen in my life. bradshaw barely got hit b4 forward progress was called and the ball was coming out as well...it was unreal
It's been said, but the man got battered and didn't turn the ball over... Our Caped Crusader would have had 2 Fumbles, 2 Picks and a bad shoulder. Honestly, for as bad as Sanchez has been, he's been kind of lucky to avoid playing in bad weather so far..... Wait till we get a Snow game or a blizzard and butter fingers needs to put up 10 points.
he didn't turn it over b/c: A) the Giants recovered his fumble B) his 2 awful throws into double coverage were dropped b/c each time the SF DBs collided knocking the balls from each other. That was 100% BS.
No, two mediocre to garbage QB's make it difficult to score. the QB makes the receiver not vice versa.
Actually Sanchez and Smith are almost identical for their careers in turnovers. Sanchez has 51 Int's and 17 fumbles in 1,506 dropbacks for a 4.5% turnover rate and Alex Smith has 58 Ints and 33 fumbles in 2.131 dropbacks for a 4.3% rate. Running the ball Sanchez has more turnovers with 4 fumbles lost in 103 attempts for a 3.9% rate while Smith has 4 in 181 attempts for a 2.2% rate in his career In his first three season Smith was MUCH worse than Sanchez in both regards. He had 31 Ints and 21 fumbles in 881 dropbacks those three seasons for a 5.9% turnover rate in the passing game and he had all 4 of his fumbles in only 87 rushing attempts for a 4.6% turnover rate on the ground. Sanchez's performance is much better than Smith's was at the same stage of his career and is likely to be much better at year 7 also.
Alex Smith has had seven Coordinators in Seven years and did not have one of the best Defenses, Special teams, Offensive Lines and Running Games in Football his first two season. Had Sanchez had to deal with what Smith has he would be somebody's backup or out of Football by now. Stats don't tell the whole story all the time.
Why are we bringing in facts into this discussion that may dispute ill-conceived opinions from the Anti-Sanchites?
True which is why it's comical for Jet fans to want Sanchez out BUT Alex Smith was awful yesterday. Sanchez hasn't had a bad postseason game yet and Alex had one at HOME in his 2nd postseason game.
The way to try to deal with hysteria is to use the facts. Hysteria being what it is, the facts are often a futile defense but you still have to try. Some day we'll all realize that Peyton Manning and Tom Brady were unique players who happened to hit the NFL at just the right time for them to become the gold standard, until everything changed again. Using them as the bar that QB's have to hit not to be a failure would be like cutting Willis Reed in 1968 because he wasn't Wilt Chamberlain or Bill Russell. Where would the Knicks have been then in 1970?
What is comical that our team has been so mediocre to bad for so long we can not accept the fact that our Qb is a bum that has been protected for three years and when he had to win games with his talent this year the truth came out. Manning threw 60 times and was hit 20 times yesterday and had no turnovers, 2 T/D extended plays and threw for 300 yards against one of the top defenses in football and gets sacked and pressured numerous times and is going to the Sb. Our bum has to throw sixty times in a game against a mediocre defense and takes a crap and we blame the O-line, running back and parking attendants rather than accept the fact that he is a bum! Brady, Manning, Schaub, BIg Ben, Dalton, Ravens Defense, Luck on the way etc, etc! Sanchez WILL NEVER WIN A HOME PLAYOFF GAME!!!!!!
Hmmm, why did he have no turnovers? maybe b/c the Giants recovered his fumble? and maybe b/c the TWO times he threw into double coverage the SF DBs collided each time knocking the ball away from each other?
You forgot the part about him being lucky, unlike Tom Brady who threw 2 picks in the AFC championship game. You also should have pointed out that comparing an 8th year starter to a 3rd year starter is like comparing an 8th grader to a 3rd grader. Yeah the 3rd grader eats paste now and then and the 8th grader doesn't. That's not because the 3rd grader's mouth works any less well than the 8th grader's. It's because the 8th grader has experience in knowing what to eat and what not to eat that the 3rd grader won't have for a bit.
