Did Smith complete a pass in the 4th quarter? And after gashing the Giants defense for 150 yards rushing, why did the 49ers abandon the run halfway through the 4th quarter when one drive wins the game. Did Schotty sneak his way into the Niners OC booth and call the plays???
Smith hasn't played bad in either game, That being said, he played GREAT last week. There really isn't enough data on him to make a fair argument.
We have better weapons on offense outside of Gore but it kinda close. An let's be fair, Sanchez is Johnny Unitas compared to Alex Smith.
That Saints D is worse than any D the Jets played in either postseason run....that and NO travels awful on the west coast. Smith isn't the biggest goat don't get me wrong but I'd take Sanchez performances in either year than the 2 games by Smith.
Judging by your name, your still upset we got Nick Mangold for John "No show in January" Abraham right?
We're comparing the teams and I compared Alex Smith to Mark Sanchez....I see nothing with what I did wrong. Besides that, the pass rush by SF is just much better but the secondaries are just so similar besides NYJ having lockdown Revis. Vernon Davis blows away any of our offensive playmakers though, its just too bad he has Holmes itis with that selfish posing after a TD.
Very little argument with anything you said. I just think 6 games compared to 2 is tough to judge. Or, 2 years compared to 1 if you will. I do think Smith was HUGE last week and outperformed Sanchez in any playoff game he had. However, in fairness, as you said, Sanchez hasn't faced a defense as bad as Smith faced last week.
Brees has thrown for over 400 yards and the Saints have scored over 30 points their last 3 playoff games and the Saints have lost 2 of them. For all the talk about Peyton early in his career or Marino never having a good defense no QB has ever come close to how fucked in the ass the Saints have been by their defense the last 2 years.
They're not awful by any means. They didn't have secondary goof ups like the Saints D often did. Gregg Williams was finito'd. His 2009 SB win with them at DC was based off of being opportunistic with turnovers. When those didn't come about, they were done.
I was yelling at the TV for the 49ers to run the damn ball when they got it in the 4th quarter with a chance to win. I felt like I was watching a Jets game.
49ers have to play the a bunch of top teams next year...Packers, Lions, Bears, Saints, Giants, Patriots, Jets They will probably beat us tho.
Certainly no disputing that but both defenses have been awful for quite awhile. Its even more impressive that they won a super bowl how bad of a defense they had a few years ago.
I agree the same size is a bit tough but Sanchez had success in road playoff games in his rookie and sophomore year while Smith was struggling mightily, even dispelling that argument about how the instability at coaches ruined him. Smith was damn good last week but I would say Sanchez performance vs the Pats was not as far below that performance. Yards wise Smith beat him but given the atmosphere on the road, the 3 TDs by Mark were huge.
The 49ers lost one NFC Championship game. The Jets lost two AFC Championship games back to back. The more championship games you lose the better QB your are, so my money is on Sanchez.
