This. Again, its like some people dont get what a good qb does. I get the Jets haven't ever really had one, but please go watch Brady this week. When a team knows the qb's play will most likely give them breathing room, they play differently. The whole team does. They know that one mistake wont kill the team, and take chances going for the football. The line plays better. It elevates a whole team. When a qb is shit and the rest of the team knows it, they press and make mistakes. Thats why saying they blew a 7-3 lead is almost a joke. A good qb would not have had the score be 7-3.
Their history over the past 52 years would have nothing to do with anything. But you're right, with Manning the Jets don't go 12-4. More like 13-3 or 14-2. If they can win 8 games with a bad QB, a great HOF QB could easily add 5-6 more victories.
How many wins did the Jets get the the great HOF QB Brett Favre? Even with Manning, the Jets are not winning 12 games.
Yep, then we'd lose our first out first playoff game like he has done so many times throughout his career w/ better talent around him. we didn't go 8-8 just b/c of QB play. The OL stunk, the receivers stunk, the RBs were ok, the D was up and down. We could add Brady, Rodgers or whoever and we wouldn't have won 13 or 14 games this year, we'd have been lucky to win 10.
This is fucking ridiculous. The press just puts this shit out there to make money. They only want him to come to NY because it would be an absolute media frenzy, they dont actually give a shit about this organizations long term success. Im sick of this Peyton talk.
But adding a HOF QB solves all problem! Dont you get that?! He could even make Hunter into an All Pro and Eric Smith athletic! /Sarcasm
Favre was great, but he wasn't in the same universe as Manning. Are you honestly saying that a healthy Peyton Manning could not turn an 8 win team into a 12-14 win team? Just look at the Colts the last 2 seasons. 12-4 with Manning, 2-14 without him. It is not at all a stretch to say that a healthy Manning would at the very least turn the Jets into a 12+ win team.
Come on. That's like saying that our QB play is just fine and that the problem is just everywhere else. You're right, there are aspects of the team that are not great, but you're overlooking the fact that an elite QB makes up for a lot of other problems. You mention that Brady and Rodgers would have been lucky to win 10 games with the Jets this year. Ridiculous. Brady plays on a team where his best receiver was a nobody until he met Brady, and Rodgers is the ultimate one man show in Green Bay. Just having them behind center forces defenses to play back a bit and opens up more room for their RBs. Not to mention that both of them have defenses that make our D look like the '85 Bears. Yet both of them still managed to win 13 and 15 games respectively. So yes, a QB of that caliber could most definitely turn an 8-8 record into a 13-3 record.
Peyton could have been a Jet 15 years ago, but decided that wasn't good enough for him and went back to school. I still don't understand why he would change his mind about playing in NY now?
Thats really not the concern though. The concern is that we are risking at least 4 years of this franchise’s future on Manning and his health. He would probably demand something upwards of 18 million which would cause us to miss out on filling in other holed (RT- so what if we dont upgrade and sign Manning but because Hunter is a hot pile of garbage (see avatar) that he lets Aldon Smith absolutely blow by him and kill Manning so that he has played his last football). Then we got rid of our future QB and are stuck at literally an all time low. A successful organization isnt built around one player. See the Packers- if Aaron Rodgers missed this whole season, Matt Flynn could’ve stepped in and led them to 11+ wins and a SB contender. Thats because they are built well. They had 9 starters on IR last year and won the SB. If we signed Manning, we just wouldnt be building this team the right way. And oh yeah. A scenario that everyone over looks is: we pursue Manning, but he signs with the Redskins (or insert any other team name) and we are FUCKED just like last offseason bc of Nnamdi. We invest all our offseason time and money into Peyton, but we miss out on not only him, but the majority of all the other FA’s. IMO, risking our future for 1-2 good years left of Manning is just not worth it at all.
NO ONE can defend this offense but you bend over backwards trying. The D is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but it is good enough to be a strong contender and frankly whether you admit it or not it has carried this team the last 3 years. The offense has to put games away when the D is shutting teams down and they consistenly fail miserably in doing so. If the offense was even MEDIOCRE in 4 of these games instead of PITIFUL they win them all. 125 points off turnovers is the most given up in the NFL is completely inept. Miami kicked 4 field goals in that game WITHOUT getting a first down on any of those so called "drives". They held Denver to 9 straight three and outs and 125 yards before the last drive and O repays that effort with a pick 6 special. The Pats game in NE the O constantly goes 3 and out against a terrible defense giving the most prolific offense in the NFL multiple chances to cash in. Despite the abortion of the 99 yarder Eli (now considered an elite QB) had maybe his worst game of the season completing 9 of 27 with nearly half his yardage on that one play.
You do realize that Manning has had 3 major neck surgeries, right? If you think for one minute he will be the same QB that he once was, I have some swamp land in Florida to sell you.
Don't you understand, elite QB's compensate and hide every other deficiency! Look how Rodgers overcame his wide receivers drops and his poor defense and led his team to victory last weekend. Look how Brees overcame his poor defense to lead his team to victory also! Look how Brady overcame poor defenses and o line play the last 2-4 years succeed in the playoffs. :breakdance: QB's playing at an elite level can hide problems. I don't trust QB's 30+ coming off a season ending neck injury that was supposed to have him ready at the beginning of the season. Basically I would rather focus on building an overall better team that taking a gamble that could backfire miserably and set us back 3-4 years franchise wise. The gamble could also end in Super Bowl if he is willing to take 2-3 million only haha
This is why I said a healthy Peyton Manning. If he is healthy and cleared to play. I would actually be shocked if he did come here, but if he is healthy then you better believe that I would want to see what this team would be capable of with possibly the greatest of all time behind center every week.
so how come w/ better talent around him Peyton is so bad in January? Favre and Manning are similar- great reg season QBs, chokers in January except this time Favre decided to choke in December. Indy was 10-6 last year and headed down, they weren't 12-4. Also, ANOTHER one and done in january in 2010. We have a good QB who had a terrible end to the season, there were many factors why the QB took a step back. It's silly to throw out a young, good QB b/c he had one down year. Brady's WRs aren't very good but his OL is, w/ this OL he would not have been as great as he was. Better than Sanchez obviously but not enough to overcome the bad D, bad OL, etc... Their D's were as good as ours, don't let meaningless rankings fool you. The O wasn't great but we are a D first team and our D failed us more often than not. Most of our losses were b/c of breakdowns by our supposed big time D. You guys can keep making excuses for them but it's the truth. W/ a lead we allowed Miami to go on a 21 play, 12 1/2 minute drive to take the lead and change the game. we allowed an offense that can't pass to go 95 yds for the GW TD in Denver in the final minutes we led the Giants 7-3, had a chance to get the ball back in great FP to score again- the D allowed a 99 yd TD drive on 3rd and 10 to change that game.
I was actually talking in terms of message board hype. If the Jets actually try to romance Peyton, you will not be able to find a non-Peyton thread on the first page of the Jets forum.
How did he overcome last week? How many playof wins since '08 for Brady? Mark Sanchez outplayed Brady in NE in the playoffs last year. Let's not forget that. Will he ever be a BRady type? No BUT we can win big w/ him.
If this logic was true, every team with an elite QB would be in the playoffs still. Did you see two top 3 QB’s get knocked out last week?????
