will all things be equal? if so then we'll find out but will the OL stink? will there be the problems at WR? will the QB take a step back? Schottenheimer is on the verge in SL, a guy who can't coach isn't getting another job this quickly. he was our scapegoat.
Sam Bradford is going to have just as much trouble making Schotty's system work as Chad and Sanchez did. It's too complex and it requires perfect play from too many people to be more than mediocre. I also find it ironic that Schotty will now wind up working with another QB who has slow release issues. Like Sanchez Bradford is not terminally slow on the release but he is definitely slower than you'd like. I predict a bit of a bounce back next season for Bradford and the Rams on offense, because that's usually what happens after a bad sophomore season follows a decent rookie year, and then for the troubles to start up again in 2013 when Schotty tries to fully implement his offense.
Chad played well coming off of 2 shoulder surgeries Sanchez was developing nicely through 2 years I expect Sanchez and Bradford to have good years next year and the board will tell us how Sanchez is doing it b/c Brian is gone and Bradford doing it in spit for Brian.
He wasn't our scapegoat. He's just not that good. You'll be able to add Bradford to the Penington,Favre,Sanchez list. And Jeff Fisher to the list of head coaches that will die the death of a thousand cuts. There is one difference, that being removed from the heat of the season, and the chance to contrast points out. This Front Office, drafts good players. That's a given. However...It's never really had the ability to marry itself to the dictates of a good Head Coach. Tannenbaum said it in HK. 'Coach I'll give you one guy' famously that pick was Connor. But a FO Staff has to be married to a coach and a long term vision. Good Players isn't enough, it's the TYPE of players (Pitt likes one type...NE places a premium on versatility and smarts.) In the Rams case, Fisher will dictate the personnel as well as the circumstances they'll be used in, and One suspects Schotty will also have far less lattitude than he's had under this FO, which has supplied the team with green defensive head coaches. I would expect him to be MARGINALLY more successful there, then here...(e.g not a bottom 10 offense, but probably a bottom half of the middle 10...) The one constant....Don't expect Bradford to become Bradshaw.
I can't totally disagree but if he was our scapegoat then that means Sanchez was/is our problem..all I know is if they plan on being a ground and pound team they better replace Damien Woody and Thomas Jones before they try it.
Sanchez was successful under Schottenheimer and if he can coach Bradford for years they will have success as well. You guys see everything blakc and white, how does he get blame b/c Favre sucked? how does he get blame for Chad leading us to the playoffs? or sanchez helping us to 2 title games? It's about winning and we won a lot w/ him here.
Hey guys, I didn't see this thread originally or else I'd have posted in here. Check out the thread in National Football League "Brainless Shotty..." I'd post the link, but apparently I need more post to do so. Your incite is welcome! Very interested in what you guys have to say. I'll read through this thread too.
How can anyone praise Schotty and bash Sanchez. It was Schotty's job to develop Sanchez. if you think Sanchez is not developing you have to put a big part of the blame on Schotty. Schotty has had two opportunities to develop QB with the Jets Clemens and Sanchez. Clemens he failed miserably Sanchez was not devloping according to plan so Schotty is out. We will see what he does with Bradford.
You're holding Schotty accountable for Clemens also ... Is it safe to assume you believe Clemens could've been a solid NFL starter if he had a different coaching staff?
I did not know either way I just know Schotty was the OC and his job as OC was developing QBs Clemons sucked with us. To me Schotty is not a very good play caller and it takes a very intelligent and veteran QB to run his system semi effectively. It takes a typical NFL QB 4-8 years to reach their potential as a QB. Just look around the league the rookie QB sensations have all taken a step back after their rookie years and I expect Dalton and Newton to struggle more than expected next year also. It takes years to develop into a great QB and a good mentor and OC. I think we will be able to tell a lot more about Sanchez's long term prospects after next season. Four years seems to be a pretty good telling sign on the progress of a QB. How long do you think Alex Smith would have lasted in NY?
If Alex Smith was drafted early like Mark Sanchez, I still think he'd be with the team & even starting (assuming the backup is a stiff like Brunell). As for Clemens, his inability to succeed w/ Redskins & Texans makes me believe nobody would turn him into a solid starting qb. Agree that it usually takes years to develop a great QB. However, that does not mean whenever a QB given years to develop he should be great. For Sanchez, I'm still undecided. Just like many others, I'm expecting next season w/ new OC & new scheme to give a better understanding where Sanchez is.
I'm shocked that Fisher hired Schotty, but don't expect him to put up with the crap that Rex did. If he crosses Fisher's instructions, Fisher will kick his ass then fire him. I expect Schotty to only last 1-2 years in St. Louis.
Yeah, it has actually hit a few newswires now that the Rams are interviewing Jackson. So, either they never made a firm offer to Schotty or Schotty turned it down. In any case, the position is still open.
I cant imagine him turning it down, unless hes refusing to go to a team that doesnt have a top 10 qb, in which case good luck in college ball
Maybe they are interviewing Jackson for an Assistant Head Coach position, similar to what the Jets did with Haley. Either that, or they never made Schotty a firm offer. Interesting either way.
I think Alex Smith is a good example of a quarterback that was asked to do too much without the skill set to produce the desired result and no supporting vast around him to aid him in this quest. Sanchez had a different route where he had a good supporting cast that got better and he was coddled along as the team got better and was expected to excel rather then go through the typical growing pains. Shotty did a good job in this , but for the life of me I do not know why he was so predictable and then not predictable where it was a definitely throwing down and he was running and vise versa.
