Here's what a local sports writer from the St. Louis Post Dispatch had to say about the move. (or possible move I guess) Just thought I'd pass it along, figured you guys might be interested. I'd post the link but I can't until I have 50 post. It's on the site stltoday under the Rams section.
Thanks for posting, I do think it is a fair article but it is hard to get a feel for an offense just looking at those rankings and PPG. One point he hit on was the OL, our OL was pretty bad this year and the run game suffered for half the year. This was not the fault of any one person. he's the OC and ultimately takes the responsibility but this was a true team effort as was the runs to the title games the previous 2 seasons.
That is as biased and homeristic as it is uninformed. That guy is definitely going to regret that article in a couple of years.
Well, good luck and all, but I'm telling you whoever wrote that doesn't watch the Jets regularly. The Jets offense would go entire quarters looking like they hadn't even practiced that week.
Yeah, I wasn't trying to imply anything by it just passing it along. It's definitely leaning towards Shotty. However, I can't say I personally disagree with all of it. Then again, I'm not trying to tell you your shit, at all. This is your team, and you've had 6 years of BS as an OC. I respect it. What necessarily don't you agree with?
Good point. I do however like your guys effectiveness in the redzone considering what we did in it last year. It was abysmal.
Hey Rams Fan: With Mark Sanchez, Schotty was OC & Callahan was OL Coach. For Jets, Mangold would handle the OL adjustments and Sanchez would worry about everything else. When Mangold went down, it was pretty ugly. If you saw the Sunday night game w/ Jets vs. Ravens then you'd realize the Jets were hopeless without Mangold. Sanchez threw many passes way short of the first down maker on 3rd down. There was constant debate as to whether Sanchez is just constantly checking down or if Schotty is just calling stupid plays. This season, the Jets rarely threw downfield to challenge secondaries which enabled defenders to sit on short passes. At the same time, the Jets OL was having major problems this season (especially at the tackles) and just keeping Sanchez upright was a major task itself. This season, the Jets brought in Tom Moore (from the Colts) as an offensive consultant & the Jets O was pretty damn good in the red zone. How much of this is attributable to Moore is debatable. I'd assume that even if Moore was the mastermind behind Red Zone success that Schotty picked up some tips/tricks from working alongside him. Sanchez is not the most accurate passer & this did hurt him in Schotty's system during the regular season. Although Sanchez career is young, he's still got quite a few 4th quarter comebacks. It could mean that Schotty coached Mark for 2-minute drills or it could mean that Sanchez is at his best when free of Schotty and clock is running out. Under Schotty, offensive gameplans did not appear to adjust much during games but the Jets O would usually finish much stronger than they started games (as seen by the 1st quarter scoring this season & last). If you dig through the boards, you'll see that the general consensus is that Jets posters are happy he's gone. General belief is that Sanchez would have developed faster/better with another OC also. I'd expect Rams organization to feel opposite & believe Schotty got all he can from a limited QB. In Schotty's defense, I don't think he's ever thrown Sanchez or any other QB under the bus for anything that goes wrong. Until this season, I don't remember reading about locker room problems with offensive players. Many Jets fans will be looking @ Schotty over @ the Rams and they'll use Bradford's performance there to determine Schotty's influece (bad or good) over Sanchez.
Thanks for the post ajax. To tell you the truth, I'm worried for both our QBs. It's Sams 3rd year in a new system, and will be Marks first time in any other system than Brians. I may be mistaken, but I think that's right. Thank God there's a friggin off-season for both of them this year. I think they're going to need it. Here's to them both hitting the ground running.
lol Yeah, I was wondering about that. It would be interesting to see a stat of how many times he was targeted in the RZ.
This is about right. He had tons of pre snap movement in 2006 and it has diminished extremely since. As for the going deep to force the defense to protect the entire feild, that was all but eliminated this past year. Some of that may be due to our protection issues, but he seemingly did not dial up the deep passes. There is a gif floating around here with 5 wideouts and all 5 of them running a 3 to 5 yard curl on a 3rd and 6 play. Its play designs like this (right out of Techmo bowl 2) that have had much of our fan base up in arms and why I would not describe his offense as a Coryell but much more a WCO with the short passes and timing routes in these last few years.
LOL RIP to Sam Bradford's career. Schitty will kill him under "his system" So hilarious that ANYBODY hired Schitty to be their OC. Not saying Sanchez didn't share some of the blame because he does but the offense he was put into was a complete shit fest. So glad we have Sparano and hopefully Haley on board to make this offense into a top 10 one and hopefully Sanchez can improve.
I loved what Shotty did here in 06. With very little talent and pop gun behind center we were very effective. We were very effective with Favre before he got hurt and he did game plan well in the playoffs for the most part. This year was a disaster and he had to go, I suspect the change in scenery is a win-win for both the Jets and the Rams.
I disagree... Schottenheimer is more suited for Bradford (very accurate and smart QB) and Sparano is more suited for Sanchez (more physical and play action QB). Schotty never fit in Rex's team.
This is pretty much how I see things also. I'm glad to see Schotty gone because we clearly needed to change things up on offense in a big way, but the majority of the criticism he took from Jets fans was retarded. To put it another way: Schotty did a poor job this year and deserved to be shown the door, but some fans are going to be very disappointed when they find out that Sanchez isn't going to magically improve overnight with a different playcaller.
Shotty is still a very young guy and working for a HC who is going to provide some direction and insight might actually help him.
