Watching these teams play it makes me wonder what a good tight end would do for Mark. As many people know I am not the biggest Sanchez fan to this point. Seeing what Graham, Davis, Gronk, Hernandez, and Finley have done for there teams it makes me wonder. We have all hoped that Keller would step up, he would have great games and then disappear for several games. Do we draft one, stay status quo, howwas Cumberland prior to the injury?
If Keller could step up and play every game like he played against the Jags we would be in good shape..that or we need to get a big guy that can play like that.
I think we will see a healthy dose of a two tight end set with sporano coming aboard , but am unsure what the result will be . To me Keller is a bulky wide receiver and not suited for tight end duties. Cumberland look like a beast in his limited exposure and we are sure to add another tight end or at the very least bring some bodies into camp to get some quality blocking/pass catching tight ends.
All this thread makes me think of is how badly we need to draft a player who can cover Gronk if we expect to win the division next season.
I fucking despise gronkowski Fuck that guy. Just thinking about him makes me want to smash multiple objects at once
Sparano favors big tightends. He had one in Dallas in Jason Witten and Fasano as the second tightend. He brought Fasano over with him to Miami and made him #1. I think the odds are good that Sparano lobbies aggressively for a 6'4"/6'5" physical tightend who can also catch the ball whether via the draft or free agency.
Keller is similar to Hernandez on the Pats. I think we bring in someone new to fill Mulligan's spot but stick with Keller and Cumberland as the two main threats. Cumberland was poised to have a big impact this year before he got hurt. Did it making a great TD catch too.
You mean did it making a horrible drop that would have been TD if he caught a routine pass. If Cumberland finally works out it is a bonus but i seriously doubt we will pass on a chance to bring in another TE because Cumberland is on the roster. The guy hasn't done anything yet and is coming off a very serious injury. TE is absolutely on the list of positions that need to be upgraded, especially with Sparano in charge of O now.
Thought he caught it going over a guy, guess he dropped it when he hit the ground and his Achilles popped. I have no doubt that he will "work out" he already showed that ability. They bring in someone to fill Mulligan's spot. They won't be investing a high draft pick or much money in free agency into the tight end spot with the more pressing issues on the roster.
The guy has exactly 3 catches in his career, not exactly sure what ability he has shown. Unless you mean preseason, which isn't exactly a good measurement of future success when the games count. I don't think we will use a 1st or 2nd on a TE, for one thing it isn't a great class for TEs and as you said we have bigger needs but with that said if there is a guy the CS and FO like I highly doubt we pass on him because Cumberland is on roster.
This is part of building a team from the ground up that everyone wants. You see a guy with potential and have to let him step up. He would have had a huge role on the team throughout the year if he didn't get hurt early in the second game of the year. We won't be passing on investing on a TE because of just Cumberland. They already have decent money invested in Keller and they definitely liked what Cumberland was bringing to the table as far as complimenting Keller. Those two are coming into camp next year solidified as the top two tight ends with Baker as the third. A pure blocker will be signed for cheap to replace Mulligan. No big moves are coming for the TE position this year as we already have the two elements the team will want to attempt to mimic the Pats two TE system.
UKK, Just watching what a guy like Davis, Gronk, and Jimmy have meant to Smith, Brady, and Brees shows exactly why Mark needs a bigtime tightend. You guys watched Cumblerand more than me this year, is he a legit prospect?
you watched him just as much as we did......cus he aint play We could grab one late Michael Williams from Alabama Jake Stoneburner from Ohio St. if either comes out or wait til 2013 and grab my fav TE prospects Arthur Lynch from Georgia 6'5 270 4.65 speed or Dion Sims from Michigan St 6'5 275 4.68 speed Lynch is a better blocker and receiver but Sims isn't too far behind
I think he is. He looked great in preseason but never got a chance to get involved before his injury. He is a guy that has all the physical tools to be the answer that anyone listing guys to go after in free agency is looking for. In a perfect world they could get another guy for a good price who has the same type of potential but the jets find themselves in a world that is far from perfect. I think we see a lot of upset fans when the Jets keep the status quo at tight end due to the much bigger holes that need to be filled. It just won't make sense to use more of the very limited resources on a position that already has at least two capable bodies and another guy that flashed a little bit of potential in limited opportunities. I fully expect the top 3 spots on the depth chart to be Keller, Cumberland and Baker going into next season. No need to get sparano pieces that he already has, especially when we are missing a few key ones.
Keller is not in the same league as the aforementioned TE's. Jimmy Graham is a beast and can block. I hope we get Fasano.
I used to feel that way, till I found out my brother knows him and thinks he's a really cool guy. Apparently everyone on the team thinks Edelman's an asshole and can't stand him. He's their lower-paid version of Santonio Holmes I guess.
