Forgive me if this has been brought up but I didn't see it anywhere. Peyton Hillis, I'm not sure if this guy is entering free agency but the Browns said they wanted to get rid of him. I know there have been accusations of character issues (the last thing we need) but it is Cleveland, shit gets boring out there. He also had the hammy issue, which is something to consider.

I really feel like we are ok with the running backs we have, but if this guy comes available for a good price, I think it could be a good move. I am dying to see the ground and pound reinstalled for 2012, I'd kill to see the Jets run the ball again and keep the defense off the field for more than a 3 and out. Any thoughts on this?

Hes a Shonn Greene clone. We need an all purpose back with good speed to rotate with Greene.

I would still take Richardson if he was on the board, much better hands, durability & less prone to fumbling than Greene.

i don't really see the similarities between the two. peyton is a much better athlete. he's stronger. he's an excellent pass catcher.

that said, i don't think he's right for the team. he's only had the one good year and it sounded like he was a huge problem in the cleveland locker room.

Well, hes definitely a north/south runner like Greene, I just liked the idea of physically punishing the defense with Hillis and Greene and hopefully Mcknight and Powell could help spread the field. There are a lot of maybes that were mentioned though, so im not hellbent on him.

Maybe the word "Clone" wasn't the best choice of words. I should have said their running style is similar. We need a different type of back other than a big bruiser with average speed.

We need a more elusive back that can run the edges but can also block.
If we lose LT, getting a back that blocks is a HUGE need. I forget exactly which game it was (Maybe Eagles?) when LT went down with an injury Sanchez looked very uncomfortable in the pocket worrying about RB blitz pickup.

The difference is huge between Peyton and Greene. Greene goes down immediately after contact, he is hughely dependent on the oline to create space, whereas Peyton grinds out yards after contact, at least used to.

But to change lt for Peyton is another bonehead choice that only jets would do.

No way. He's a better runner than Greene but why would you think that being on the Jets would automatically fix his attitude? Jet locker room problems are all over the media & this board.

    1.) Waste of cap space.
    2.) Waste of roster space.
3.) We don't need another running back.

Woa woa... Hillis is better than Greene in every aspect of the game. And unlike Greene he can actually CATCH a friggin' ball. Greene has some of the worst hands ever for a RB...

Uh. What? Hillis is twice the back that Greene is.

I was a proponent for getting him 3 years ago, now he will command too much money. Never waste that kind of jack in today's NFL.

Thats the problem. However, I might be wrong but I thought the Jets actually had some cap space to spare this year. I understand the numbers can radically change in one season but if teams are turned off by locker room issues then maybe we can get a steal. At the right price I would take him. As far as the locker room issues, I would only give him a two year deal. Try and straighten him out and if not cut your losses which wouldn't be too steep if you got him for the right price.

He'd probably get overpaid, but you never know after his disaster last season. For the right price, he's intriguing, because he's the type of guy Rex would love to hand the ball to and watch run over people. Hillis isn't an ideal fit because Greene's also a between-the-tackles runner, but Hillis is a far better pass catcher.

RB that starts to get nagging injury = RB almost finished with his shelf life.

    Pass on him.

    Next?

Joe Mcknight has got to show us something this year. Great on special teams this year, but now lets see him step up the offense.

Ugh, a guy with 1 good season who his teammates grew to hate is not a guy I want in New York. Yes, for obvious reasons, he would make a good addition and would be fun to root for, but is he that much better than Shonn Greene or a guy that we might be able to draft this year?

He had 1 good year, but no thanks. We need an all purpose speed back like leSean McCoy, ray rice.
