This will start soon, no matter who the OC is our whiny fans will complain about him giving the players a pass even though they stunk.
You are talking about Jerry Jones, he thinks his team is underachieving, instead of looking at the picks he has made in the draft and realize he has built a below average team.
Stop talking out of your ass. Sparano was relieved of playcalling duties because he was a Parcells guy. Jerry Jones doesn't make many personnel moves that make sense, so you trying to come to conclusions about Sparano's ability just from that situation is like asking a spelunker to guide you up Mt. Rushmore. And no, it wasn't Sparano AND Haley calling plays, it was Sparano. Look it up.
Sparano, while a nice guy. Leaves alot to be desired when in charge of a offense. People can go back to 06, and forget his tenure in MIA. But the product he put on the field while in MIA goes to show he has alot of holes in his philosophy. He's a run first coach. Period.
The fact that Haley is interviewing this morning tells you that the Jets realize Sparano is limited in terms of developing the passing game and are going to address the issue
While like most others here my confidence in Rex has been shaken, I think there is one sort of optimistic while not rose colored glasses way of looking at this Sparano for Schotty deal. Here's what i think happened. Rex interviewed for the Jet HC job. Tanny and Woody agree and expect Rex to come in and run his D, but on the subject of O, Rex concedes that is not his background. But... he also says he would prefer to have an O that complements what he wants to do on D. The Jets coincidentally have Schotty already there, and Favre likely heading out the door. Tanny then said we like Schotty, even if Mangini brought him in. Rex has no particular reason to say he does not like Schotty at that point, but says he hopes Schotty can run the kind of O Rex thinks will complement his approach on D. So Schotty stays, and they go out and get Sanchez who, Ryan thinks, as a rookie can game manage the O while he, in the medium to long run, develops into a veteran and more effective Qb. So far so good. Ryan's first year, he gets a great performance out of the D, the O under Schotty has it's burps and hiccups, but what do you expect with a rookie Qb? And they make it as far as the Champ Game. Ryan's second year is not much different, but before that the off season is one where the greater focus is on the D and getting help at cb to complement Revis. LT is added to the O, though, and at first that seems to be a real upgrade over Thomas Jones. Holmes starts playing in game 5, Edwards has a great year after that DWI, and the Jets again go to the Champ Game. We all know the roster moves last off season, but the main thing is the expected improvement by Sanchez in the passing game will allow greater use of a vertical passing attack. As for Schotty, what is there to say? Ryan knows by then that Schotty is not necessarily the best fit for what Ryan wants to do on D, but that didn't stop the JEts from going to another Champ Game. So Schotty comes back one more year, whatever misgivings Rex may have had (and I am not saying he had any significant misgivings at that point). The season starts and it is soon apparent the Jets are not ready or suited to use a vertical passing attack. Sanchez regressed, Mangold went down, Hunter and Ferguson sucked, and Burress took too long to become effective. LT was a year older, Greene struggled, and the offensive coaching staff appeared to have no answer. The stated goal of relying more on the running game was not, for a variety of reasons, met. Going into this off season, and however comfortable or not Rex had become in analyzing the O, one thing was clear - it was not working as a complement to his D. Tanny had to see this as well. So now is a good time to make a move, and Rex wanted to get someone he thought would be a better fit with a run oriented O. Enter Sparano, and Tanny approves, and maybe Rex is going to prove to be right. We shall see...
Good analysis! I think that you are right and Rex will be happier with an OC who shares his offensive ideas (G'N'P) We just need the other half for developing the passing side of the offence now - hopefully in the next day or so.
