Whoah!!! Easy there. I think he has the potential to be the best QB since Namath, but to say he already is is jumping the gun. I'm not a huge Vinny fan, but Sanchez isn't as good as him. Hell, Ken O'Brien had a few pretty good years as well. I know he's been part of a team that won 4 playoff games in two years, and that's great, but I'm yet to see a single game where he puts the team on his back and carries them. If he plays bad next year, he may be gone. I hope he becomes better than Namath and wins multiple Super Bowls, but he isn't even a "good" QB yet.
Just shows you that we have had some bad QBs here over the years. i was being honest though. Chad is the only other one who rivals Mark right now for #2 all-time Jets QB.
i got a good chuckle out of the comment about him being the best jets qb in 40 years. tannenbaum seems to be a guy who wants to make a big splash and get all the big chips in. (he is beginning to remind me of a guy that daniel snyder would want as his gm) but its beginning to seem as though he lost his way on how to build a team after rex came on board. i dont want to give any credit to mangina but i have to wonder how much of his input was used when baum was making good draft picks and signings? and please lets not start singing the praises of what a great job he did bringing in wilson who is a 3rd db and while better was still shaky at times this year. or mcknight who returns kicks well and not much else. he isnt even a backup at this point he is a special teams player who gets some snaps on offense. once again much improved and i can be hopeful they can both be good contributors but lets not talk like he grabbed 2 full time starters and difference makers in those 2 guys.
in all honesty murrell, i would take obrien, testaverde, hell even todd, pennington and if esiason had a team like this he would have won too he was a better qb overall than sanchez has proven to be at this point. so yeah just about anybody who played significant action in the last 25 years i would take over mark at this point. neil odonnell maybe, yeah he is better than neil.
he will be our best ever QB when his career is done, he already has the most postseason wins in only 3 seasons.
Vinny '98 was the best individual season by a Jets QB ever, the problem was he wasn't nearly as good the rest of the time here. Chad was great pre shoulder injury but he was always hurt, Boomer was at the end of his career, Todd was terrible and O'Brien never won a playoff game.
Ten years from now you will still be trumpeting those 4 playoff wins. Right now, at this point in his career, Sanchez is a fundamentally flawed QB. All you have to do is watch the games. Can he turn it around? Sure, but he has a long way to go.
sure he's flawed, he's still a developing QB but one that can play in January. Give me a QB who isn't afraid to play in Janaury over reg season stat stuffers any day. He will have many more than 4 playoff wins whn his career is over and it's not just 4 playoff wins it's 4 ROAD playoff wins- most all time.
Another baffling and alarming thing about the Holmes meltdown in Miami is how come it was Schottenheimer that benched Holmes. Shouldn't that have been Ryan's move? Ryan must not be so disconnected to the occurrences on the field that do not pertain to defense.
I disagree completely. It's Schotty's offense. Let him decide who plays. As much as people dislike Schotty, there should be no question as to who knows more about the offense between him and Rex. Let him run his offense. Rex can have his say and anything he has strong convictions about can be utilized but for the most part, he should be trusting his OC. His OC just happens to not be very good.
I think it's troubling that Rex didn't know why Holmes was benched, it's also worrisome that Rex apparently had no idea of the fracture in his locker room. But I really think his guys love playing for him and the reality is this team is 8-8 because they have the talent level, coaching, and production of an 8-8 team and not because of Holmes, Sanchez, or even just Shotty. It was a collaboration of mediocrity.
Going back to the article, Rex can't change who he is and really he shouldn't have to. His problem is he put way too much confidence into a OC that could not execute his ground and pound philosophy consistently. Plus he has a QB that is still maturing and has not displayed the leadership qualities this team needs right now. Sanchez is way too laid back and aloof. What Rex needs is a "bad cop" OC to put the entire offense on notice. I get the feeling that Schotty was more like a big brother than a coach to Sanchez and that's not what he needs right now. He needs some tough love. Imagine if a coach like Gruden was running the offense, we'd know very quickly what Sanchez is made of. That's the type of personality Rex needs from his next OC.
