When asked about Holmes's hideous stint as captain for the NYJs, Rex just told the media and his fanbase that he made a mistake by naming team captains. What?!!!! Does anyone think that if Rex had made Harris and LT the only two captains on the team that bad things would have happened around the Jets having "captains"? It's a fucking insult to our collective intelligence as a FB to make this argument. Rex didn't even have the balls to say that Holmes was an asshole yesterday. "He's done a lot of good things for this team." - No shit. He's making an assload of cash. He should do good things. "He cheers for the defense." - That's worthy of praise? GTFOH. The problem is that Rex tried to appease a malcontent eternal-teenager better known as SH by making him a Capt. That was a terrible decision that totally backfired. Rex should own THAT decision instead of saying, "no more captains." When one cop is corrupt, is the logical next conclusion, "oh, we shouldn't have cops anymore. I want to build a more unified society that's not divided into different groups, so we won't have leaders and authority figures." This is in effect what Rex said to all of us. What a fucking joke. Rex's effort to try to take the heat for Holmes's douchebaggery by saying the problem was that I named team capts. is laughable.
We didnt have captains the past two years, Rex introduced captains only this season. I think not having captains was better for the spirit of the team, because respect was given to players because of who they were and what they did by example, and not because they had a C on their jersey.
The Jets are financially tied to Holmes. Rex has to figure out a way to get the most out of him next year while removing that obvious mistake of a "C" from his uniform. He never had captains prior to this year, so this is as good a way as any so far as I can tell.
Rex made a mistake by naming captains. The players should have been allowed to choose their captains IMO.
Yeah this would be a cop out if they did captain for the first 2 years, but they didnt. He tried it this year, said he made a mistake, and is not doing it anymore. It sounds credible because he never did it before.
I dont think anyone ever said it was. Could it have given Tone a sense of entitlement he shouldnt have? Maybe. Was it a mistake to give Tone a C, yep.
Who said it was the only reason? It certainly didn't help Holmes behave like a good soldier when he thought he was above the other players.
I just got a feeling from the presser earlier today that Rex feels that the team chemistry issues can be fixed by taking away the captain title.
Most do. I wouldn't want FO revealing any offseason plans/decisions at a press conference a day after the season ended.
BS, Tanny needs to provide us with a detailed report of the teams offseason plan including their free agent priorities, current draft board and who they plan on keeping. If they don't they're just trying to pull the wool over our eyes and think we're stoopid fanz.
Agree'd why gives team an edge given that we know nothing of what other teams are doing this offseason.
