They were worth more to their team (Jets) then other teams. Veterans like that, aren't looking to re-start. Clemens was making no money, NFL wise. Cutting his salary was just typical Tanny being petty and Woody being a cheapskate. Yeah, of course they did that. Cause they could. That's what Jet Management is about. Now they have Brunell as the backup, at the minimum, just the way they like it. Guy retired 5 years ago, but no one told him,, but hey, he's making the minimum, that's the important thing.

And Cotchery is smart. Don't think he didn't see the Jet way, coming his way, that's why he pushed his way out. He knew he was going from 3 million,, to let's restructure and then after he would do him that favor, next year it would be, "here's the vets minimum, take it or leave it," cause we feel like overrating Kerley.

I was just thinking. Last years playoffs, you can make the argument that LT was the game MVP vs. the Colts. After that win, you can make the argument that Ellis was the game MVP vs. the Pats. Two biggest games wins of the season. And how does Tanny reward them? By cutting both salaries. Real reward system they got going there.

    The Jet way.

Anyone hear phony Rex today? Talking about LT,,, adding,, "and by the way, he's a great player." Yeah ok,, go offer him 900 K. Imagine if he was just a good player, they'd be asking him to pay them to play.

Nobody said Schottenheimer is the sole reason, and he is not. It has been repeated ad nauseum by now, how Tannenbaum himself fucked up the roster year in and year out with all these personnel shufflings and trading picks away. That should not be underestimated under any circumstances. He did have a few good drafts, but at the end of the day, when you are dealt with paper-thin squad that cannot sustain injury to any of the pieces, that goes straight up to the GM.

That aside, it does not mean Schottenheimer does not suck. He sucks big hairy donkey balls.

Ah, I see where your leading now,Let's not waste time on developing young players, when we can just overpay aging vets. Too many people here think this is baseball and we can just buy every player we want - salary be damned. But wait S. Ellis had a good game last year we should have paid him millions for that.

I don't think he's the problem, like alot of you do. It's debatable. I think the WR's are overrated, they don't separate, the OL has become a problem, where in the past it was a strength and the QB has taken a step back. That's not exactly having as much to work with as previous thought. I didn't even think he called the dreadful game many made it to be last week. He called a dreadful drive with 5 minutes left, that was awful. Before that, I didn't think it was the disgrace that many did,

Not millions and millions. Something that's not a slight, Offer him 2 mill for 1 year. They can't pat themselves on the backs on Hard Knocks for picking the terminator and then have him be such a non factor. Kendrick Ellis is a second rounder,, the guy doesn't even play most of the time. Powell, another guy not playing. Even the 7th rounder, Sanchez's buddy,, just a wasted pick.

Since when is John Conner a non factor? Our running game has been good when we've used it, but when you call 60 pass plays to 30 runs, yeah, he'll won't be a huge factor.

I don't really know what to say to someone who refuses to acknowledge the reality of economics in the NFL. The jets have typically been right up against the cap with Johnson as owner but he is cheap. When you have limited resources decisions need to be made on how to use those resources. Putting resources into the backup qb position is not a priority when your starter has missed one game in his career.

Giving someone like Woody money to hopefully rehab a knee isn't a high priority either. The failure of Hunter and having nobody to effectively step in is a separate issue but does not change the situation with Woody, the options weren't Woody or Hunter and nothing else.

You have proven since the offseason to have no stomach for the business side of football. It's ok to dislike the system but demonizing the Jets management for playing within the confines of the rules is just as silly now as it was in August.

Just how do you go about evaluating a FB, unless your getting coach's tapes you'd be hard pressed to have any knowledge how well a FB is performing. You might get the occasional praise from a Tv commentator, and even watching the game live unless your solely focusing on that player , you'll miss most of what he's doing on a play by play basis.

Eh, such a boring day at work, and hungover to boot, a man has to find some way to pass the time.

Jets offensive mediocrity during the past half decade disagrees with you, especially when some OCs could make a serviceable QB out of the likes of Tim Tebow, of all QBs. (Whether you agree or not, Schottenheimer was never dealt bad QBs - will you pick Tebow over Pennington, or Favre or Sanchez? Make your pick; and yet Schottenheimer was consistently mediocre throughout his entire tenure as an OC.)

On top of that, Jets rushing attack up the middle almost always resulted in 5+ yard gain the entire game. So you dial up passes after passes. If you don't question that logic, then either you don't know what the hell you are talking about, or you are being paid by Schottenheimer to defend him.

Which team did Damien Woody sign with this year? He was done last year.

The only part that was replaced was Edwards who had an awful season this year.

He's terrible. I watch him every week, he isn't on the same planet as Richardson.

Woody decided he wasn't gonna rehab at the vets minimum so he retired. But at his full 2010 salary, he was coming back. He said that more then once. Why do you think Jenkins on the post game is killin Tanny for cutting Woody cause he had this awful Hunter.

I thought they really were under the idea that the Giants awful secondary was gonna get exploited.

    Woody "The Wise" Hayes says:

"When you pass the ball, three things can happen. Two of them are bad."

This piece of wisdom was around since the 60's. It is not like Giants run D was rock solid either. You have to be an utterly fucking idiot not to exploit the soggy run defense before anything.

Holy shit. You have no idea what your are talking about. I am not sure why I need to re-discover this about you every once in a while, but it's like a new experience each time.

You watch him every week. I have to assume you don't know his jersey number.

Again, the choice was not Woody or Hunter. The decision to not pay Woody wasn't bad. The decision to go with Hunter as the only option at tackle was. They are two separate decisions, one good and one bad.

Clemens really showed the Jets that they made a mistake underpaying and then cutting him, didn't they???? He's been lighting up the past two years as he has knocked around the NFL as a rent a 3rd QB for various teams.

Cotchery saw the Jets harshness towards vets coming so he signed with......... the Steelers, who have a 20 year history of cutting vets a year early rather than pay big salaries (see Faneca, Burress, etc.).

And let's hand out millions for one game performances - that's good business. For as good as LT was in the Indy game, he was crap the last 5-6 games of the season because ..... he is an old RB and that is what happens to old RB with thousands of carries. Ellis played one good game in three seasons and was invisible the rest of the time. He was lucky to be offered a contract at all and is likely at the end of the road. Paying LT and Ellis more than minimum would have been wasted money for the Jets.

A million here, a million there and then.......a team can't sign a player they want because of the cap. You can't throw money around for sentimentality and succeed in the NFL, especially with the limitations the Jets were under in the uncapped year in 2010 and with the reduced salary cap in 2011.

Three if you add a sack. Hayes forgot that one.
