We've been down this road before with Favre. You'd have to cut Sanchez, and take a cap hit for doing so, as well as sacrificing depth to make room for Manning. Manning gives you one or two years and no guarantee of anything. When he's done, then what? I don't think Cleveland is going to be so generous with their first rounder.
Your post is right on the money. Given the current state of the Jets, and the hopefully upward trend, even though this year was a step backwards, getting rid of Sanchez CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The risk of his developing elsewhere to too high.
Different scenario all together. First, I'm not sure we'd have to cut Sanchez. I already pointed out money isn't what Peyton would be looking for. If he signed relatively inexpensively we may be able to keep Sanchez. We could cut Brunell so there'd be no depth issue. If we did cut sanchez in 2012 it would save us over $9 million in cap space. We didn't have a good defense when we went and got Favre and Favre hadn't been playing at the level that Manning was before missing a season. If Manning could be as good as he was prior to missing a season our defense would be playing with a lead on a regular basis and it would be ridiculously good because of it. It's all crap that will probably never happen though.
you're joking, right? cam newton shouldn't even be in the same sentence as sanchez. newton carries a horrible team on his back. sanchez wouldn't have won 1 game with that team. andy dalton is doing what sanchez also could never do, carry his team when they need it. sanchez had one of the top defenses in the league and same with the run game and the team won inspite of sanchez, not because of him. truly clueless.
I dont know anything about Sarkissian, so no idea and also don't know much about his contract. I would at least want Jets to have a look at him if they fire schotty.
Look what John Fox has done with Tebow in Denver. Great coaching job. The Patriots are having the same issue with McCourty. Great rookie year as a corner. I think they tried to see if he could play more man to man and he is playing just terible. But I'm not giving up on him just yet though.
no not really...we can talk more about this if bengals make it to the playoffs and see how andy carries his team
Wow. That is a lot of ifs. Even if Manning told you he wasn't in it for the money, there is no way he plays anywhere for less than what Sanchez is making. We can't have two of those salaries on the books AND upgrade at other positions. It's dreaming.
You do know Sanchez has never carried the team to a playoff win-he's never even passed for 200 yards in a playoff win-and he was downright terrible in two of the wins (SD 09 and Indy 10).
I love threads like these... Jets fans have some of the shortest memories I have ever seen. I could see us giving up on Sanchez and sending him on his way... then becoming the second coming of Drew Brees. Not that I think he can be Drew Brees, but it would so be our luck. Careful what you wish for folks.
Sarkissian was Sanchez' OC at USC. Was QB coach for Raiders in early 2000s (after Gannon though). Is considered a top young offensive mind. makes big $$$ as HC of Univ of Wash. I don't know if he will leave Wash for NFL coordinator position.
ok, tell us, what are his strengths? i thought all along schotty was playing to his strengths by throwing quick short passes. problem is, his accurancy and completion percentage were terrible. oh ya, roll him out and use his athletism, but you can only roll him out so much before defenses kill him doing that too. if you've watched any of the games you would have noticed he's not accurate and not a good field general. if game manager is all you want, then that's exactly what you've been getting.
NEWS FLASH: Peyton Manning will be with INDY next year. I don't understand why that is even discussed. Does anyone really think they are about to cut arguably the best QB in NFL history. He is not tradeable.
In the history of sports has an elite player ever taken a massive discount? Even if money isn't Manning's top priority, why wouldn't he play somewhere else for 15 or 20 million rather than the 5 or 10 the Jets could offer him?
