We're all pissed off and disappointed about that Giant game, but I urge everyone to take a breath and put things in perspective.

We may not be going to the playoffs, but a win over Miami on Sunday will give us our 4th consecutive winning season (and 5 of 6). You know when was the last time the Jets had 4 winning seasons in a row? ... How about NEVER.
    Think about that.
Fifty years of playing football, and this organization has never put 4 good years together.

Longtime fans like myself can remember year after year of losing football. We remember the 80s and early 90s when our season was routinely over by Halloween. It may not feel like it now, but this is a good time to be a Jet Fan. This team is moving in the right direction.

Let's beat the Dolphins and go 9-7. it matters.
You can't make the playoffs and get to the AFCCG every year ... but what you can do is build a winning organization and that's what we're doing. And that's what will eventually get us to where we want to go.

    Stop making so much sense...

While I obviously am disapointed with the way the season is crashing down there are positives. That being said unless this team makes some serious personel and coaching changes in the offseason I don't see us getting to 5 in a row.

Truth, you are absolutely right. Hell, since 2000 or so, it hasn't sucked to be a Jets fan. The Jets make the playoffs with some regularity. It sure does beat the lean years.

And yes, winning 9 games with regularity and being in the race for the playoffs until the last game of the year most seasons sure does beat 1-15, 3-13, 6-10, etc, etc.

That being said, as a longtime fan, which you are, it gets so old after a while, never taking that big step and getting to the Super Bowl. I've seen organizations that were complete disgraces for many, MANY years (Saints, Bucs) win Super Bowls. I've seen teams like the Cardinals make the SB and almost win it. Still, I've never even seen the Jets get there. It blows bigtime. I think that's why I'm more understanding of people getting pissed to the point of being irrational.

Is this era better than most as a Jets fan? Absolutely. Still, it won't be enough until we win it. And right now, the Jets are once again going in the wrong direction.

We went from super bowl contenders and expecting to win the division to being content with missing the playoffs at 9-7. That's some perspective for you.

I was lucky enough to have not been born during the Holtz era or whatever garbage followed him but I was alive in the Michaels era and had my first real taste of suffering during the Walton years. Coslet brought hope but he sucked and of course there was Carroll and his one season which was obviously followed by the most painful period to be a fan.

Truth is since Parcells this team has reguarly competed at a better then avarage level. The Lions made the playoffs for the 1st time since 1999, Parcells was still coaching this team then so that tells you there are a few teams that have it worse.

Honestly that's not good enough for me anymore, I've watched teams that were punching bags for most of my lifetime, Seahawks, Bucs, Cards, Saints, Rams, and Panthers make runs to the SB yet in my lifetime we've lost 4 AFC Title games. It's a sick feeling. I root for other teams in other sports yet the Jets are the one I spend the most time/money and emotional investment in so it hurts that this window was so quick and it might already be closed. I hope it's not the case but if they don't want it to be closed we need to make wholesale changes in multiple areas or we'll be stuck in mediocrity and wonder what if for how many more years.

This sums it up for me in a nutshell Barry. Walt Michaels was the first Jets regime for me. I've been through it all since then.

For people who say, "It's just football", they are right to an extent, but the Jets also mean family to me. I was born and raised a Jets fan by my Dad. I've watched, attended or spoken on the phone with him (like at least 20 times per game) during every game. I honestly can't remember missing one.

I've spent an obscene amount of money supporting them (jerseys, game tickets, memorabilia, etc). They are truly a big part of my families life. We bond over it. We are close because of the passion we feel for the team.

Nothing is better than my Dad telling me funny stories about watching The Titans in the Pologrounds, or being at the AFL title game when they beat the Raiders. ("Son, the pass he threw to Maynard after the Raiders took the lead was the greatest throw I've ever seen.") Sadly, he's old and not well. We always swore we'd watch them win a Super Bowl together one day. I have my doubts now.

I'm just over the Jets either absolutely sucking (Kotite Era), or getting close and then taking steps back which seems to be where they are now.

Next year looks like a re-building year. They have holes at a LOT of positions (Safety, LB, WR, O-line). It doesn't seem like something that can get turned around ASAP. The thought of taking a few years to rebuild (when some of our best players may not be in their primes anymore) just sucks.

I want it to be the Jets time now dammit!!!!

Exactly. And we ain't even 9-7 yet.

You know who could use some "perspective"?

If we get the right players and a new offensive coordinator and we will be fine. Find a couple of decent linebackers, a new safety, a new right tackle and a new wide receiver and this team will be alright.

I'm in the same category as both of you guys. Been rooting since 1978.
So Yes ... I feel your pain, and I'm also frustrated.
But at the same time I feel like we're actually building a solid foundation here, and I'm not going to panic because we missed the playoffs by a hair this season. Despite all our problems, if we make ONE play on that ridiculous Tebow drive (and Leonhard really should have ended it), we'd probably be playing again in January.

I don't see a collapse coming. I see us re- tooling a few pieces and taking another run at it next season.

Very much agree on all of it but what pisses me off is that they should not have had a down year this year.

Nothing on paper backs up taking one step back in order to to take two steps forward next year. Nothing. Besides Wilkerson, I see no youth that excites me about the future. None.

The only thing that gets me feeling a bit more positive about next year is the change at OC which will 100 percent happen as far as Im concerned.

The bursting of that balloon is how many positions on defense needed to be upgraded and if it can be done. 2 safetys, more speed at Linebacker with probably two spots to fill to do so. A PASS RUSHER...for the third straight year.

Lets hope it was just an off year at addressing needs and next year Tanny gets it right.

Havent even touched the qb position because if he is not the guy...that would be a disaster.

8-8 will get us a better draft pick and might be more reason to fire Shotty. If Jets win next game above .500 will probally be the excuse to keep him.

in addition to Wilkerson ... I also like what I see in Kerley, McKnight, Dixon and Maybin.

Pick up a veteran RT and draft a LB and Safety.

AND ... whenever possible, try to avoid calling 64 pass plays in one game.

I guess that depends on how much stock you put into Rex's press conferences. We all had expectations, I wanted to win the division but with the Pats still having Brady and Belichick I never found it reasonable to expect it. 12-4 is generally considered a great season but it doesn't guarantee a division win in the AFCE.

9-7 isn't what anyone wanted, I doubt anyone is truly content with it but taking a step back it is amazing how much the culture of Jets football has changed. Not that long ago many fans were happy just to be in the hunt at the end of the year. Now a good amount of the fan base finds that to be the bare minimum. In a weird way I see the crazy claims that this whole team sucks when at worst they will end up at .500 as progress.

You want perspective? Here's perspective...a head coach who tries to sell the concept that he has the best team he has ever been associated with this year and a sure superbowl contender or even more..then delivers a sham of a season despite just about no injuries or other excuses..all in the goal of trying to sell overpriced tickets to an overprices stadium...there is your true perspective.

For the second time in a few weeks another writer has called the Jets frauds and they are right..there is your perspective.

The Jets have a lot of problems, but I honestly think that sorting out the offensive line would make everything else so much better. If Sanchez could feel secure when dropping back to pass, and if the run game could start to dominate again, the offense could suddenly click, which would take pressure off the defense and put it on the opposition offense.

Finding a new starting RT and adding some depth should be this off-season's priority. That could have a dramatic impact on the Jets' chances next year.

Even if Schotty stayed (doubtful, I think) things would look much better with a dominating offensive line.

Rebuilding years no longer exist in the NFL, especially with a team that has this much core talent.

For the most part, that is correct. With one key exception. The offensive line.

I can take a rebuilding year next year, but I can't take watching this offense anymore. I dread when we have the ball. Please Mr. Johnson fire that motherfucking OC.
    Thanks,
