And once the playoffs start, that will be in the past as well. Although it didn't keep Pats fans from crowing about 45-3 even after Bart Scott lit the internet on fire in his Paolantonio interview after that second round SHOCK of an upset. :)

    Fair point.

It'll be interesting to see, if anyone writes another Brady or Belichick book somewhere down the line, what's really said about the Jets behind closed doors in Foxboro. I'm pretty sure Belichick respects Rex, but am also guessing he rips him to shreds when it's a private audience.

There was no way the Jets were going to catch the Pats for the division. If the Jets led the Pats by 3 games for the Division Title with 3 to play, I wouldn't be scoreboard watching or caring about what the Pats did.

It makes a lot more sense for us to be concerned with the Patriots since they win our division every year, which is what we're trying to do instead of going on the road for the playoffs the past ten years. So people are going to ask Jet players and coaches more about them.

Hehe, private? Something about '37 points on the best defense in the league, suck my dick' ring a bell? Respect, rivalry, both are pretty words to cover up a couple of prestigious and fiercely competitive head coaches who probably love nothing more right now than to beat each other's team.

People act like paranoia is a bad thing. But this isn't paranoia, it's called being perceptive.

Respect and a desire to kick the other's butt are not mutually exclusive.

    Perception or making crap up?

You have no idea what Silver asked Brady.

How do you know? Maybe I am just keeping my cards close? You could always prove me wrong. You won't, but you could.

Well, I suppose you're right, but you never know. Wrapping up the division with a couple of weeks left isn't at all a bad thing, and with the Patriots' defense, every game is an adventure.

No doubt, couldn't agree more. I'm actually glad that the Jets have come around the last couple of years. I think it's pushed Brady and Belichick to try to stay on top. A little healthy competition will only make you better, regardless of what sport you're talking about.

One thing I definitely like about Rex is that he's the anti-Belichick in so many ways. As much as there's no one I'd rather see coaching the Patriots, it does get kind of boring following the team in the media because Bill says absolutely nothing most of the time. I tried to watch a live press conference while taking lunch a couple of weeks back in my company's breakroom, and my coworkers revolted and made us watch some shitty SyFy movie instead.

I thought the Football Life special on him was really cool for that reason... more behind the scenes stuff than I've ever seen.

How was Rex's book? Have you read it? Thinking about picking it up on iBooks if I can find it.

He's an intriguing guy if you can get past the bluster, that is certain. I did read his book and I have to say, it was a bit hokey, although if you are interested in the goings on of the team and some of his really interesting nostalgia, it's a good read.

If you are a football junkie like me, and want to read a great (albeit technical) Rex Ryan book, I recommend Coaching Football's 46 Defense .

It's more of a story than football in depth. I would say if you are interested about Rex Ryan the person you get it, but I don't see much value for it as a non Jets fan. You may understand more about why Rex acts like he does, but it held my interest more so as a Jets fan than a football fan

He is a pretty fascinating guy. His brother too. Their big personalities kind of draw you in to the point where you want to hear what they say next. Kind of like Stern's early days I guess.

Whoa Whoa, calm down there GP. I'd be OK with Rex as my DC. But this season has highlighted several flaws in Rex's HCing game.

Do you really want a guy who would make Santonio Holmes his captain, running your team

Do you really want a coach who has used the "I" word more in a single press conference than BB has used it in over a decade in NE, coaching your team

Yeah, its much more entertaining to watch/listen to Rex over BB. Hey ANYONE would be more entertaining than BB. We aready know the answers to the quesitons. But in a 3 year period of some of the best luck in NFL history (lack of injuries, having things break their way, etc) Rex has proven to be more flash than substance....this time around. Maybe he'll be more circumspect in his next job.

Rex was just what the Jets needed when he was hired. He was the perfect marketing tool in a town suited for his personality. He made the Jets relative again, both in NYC and the nation. A+ for that area of the job. But for 3 years Jet fans have claimed that the Jets have had as talented a roster as any in the NFL, what has Rex done with them.

Now the talent seems to be diminishing and UNLIKE BB, he doesn't seem to be the kind of HC who can do more with less. The run game isn't as good, the defense isn't as good, and the QB doesn't seem to be consistent enough to take the Jets past the Patriots, even though the Jets have had ANOTHER year where they have been a lot healthier than the Pats.

No, I don't want to hire Rex, I want to hire the Jets training staff.

I give Rex/ another 18 months as the HC of the Jets. By then it will become clear that things AREN'T getting better, and the Jets will be seen as losing ground not only to the Pats, but the Phins and Bills as well. Rex will be gone, and the Jets will create a package to lure either Gruden or Cowher out of the Booth, and the games will begin again

You heard it here first. BTW- if that happens, Tanny will either go back to being the capologist, or will be gone too. Guys like Gruden and Cowher will want to "shop for the groceries" either themselves, or with THEIR OWN personnel people.

Also, when this happens, I won't be happy about it.
