He;s a leader who's eating a large chunk of the salary cap and makes too few plays. I like Bart, but I think he's more a liability than an asset. This team needs more playmakers at the safety/linebacker spot. Let's get rid of Calvin Pace, while we are at it.
true #1...plax is a great red zone target, but in between the 20's we need a guy who can stretch the field. RT and S is obvious. OLB is also obvious. one of these years we're going to address getting a good all around OLB who can rush the passer.
Keep pace as a pass rusher, let scott restructure or walk, get speed at safety and lb Sent from my SGH-T589 using Tapatalk
I would like to see the JETS draft 2 O-linemen, 1 or 2 LB (outside) and possibly a large WR Target and another TE... on a BPA basis. Hopefully address the safety spot through FA as that's an immediate hole, that can't wait for a rook to develop. Also at the time I thought trading Lowery wasn't a good move, now it looks straight up stupid and arrogant. :breakdance:
a playmaker at saftey, someone with speed that can matchup with tightends and has the ability to tackle. a veteran right tackle to take hunters place. sign braylon edwards. a linebacker with some speed
+1 - I'd be very happy if the Jets offseason played out exactly like that. Oline has to be the priority.
I'd really like to see the Jets draft a safety. I think getting a Polamalu or a Reed puts a defense on a different plane from most of the NFL. The only way to get one of those guys without spending a 1st round pick is to grab them in free agency at 31 and hope they have enough left in the tank and if they do the odds are their team will not let them go FA. The Patriots got lucky when Harrison hit the market, most of the time that kind of player gets wrapped up tight by his team. The Chargers released Harrison at 31, two seasons after he had 127 tackles and 6 interceptions. Being the beneficiary of that kind of stupidity was a big reason the Pats got rings two and three. As soon as Harrison retired the Pats defense began to crumble.
I think this season has been a really humbling point for Tanny and Rex. I think that last off season showed how much Tanny and Rex have been drinking each other's bath water. Letting a few key pieces walk and not getting speed at key positions (WR, LB) and thinking they can just put in JAGs like Wayne Hunter killed the Jets. A humbling experience like this can be really good if they learn from it. Rex is still learning how to be a good coach. He's a great Defensive mind, good motivator and mediocre coach. Having said that, I think that he's committed to being great. With a couple of young safeties, some speed at LB, a stable RT and a full off season together, the Jets will be right back in it next year. This team has key pieces (Revis, Mangold, D'Brick, Sanchez, Harris) locked up for a while.
The problem is there is no safty in the draft within worlds of what Reed and Polamalu are. Barron's biggest weakness is his pass covering abilities. Bama fans have described him as a starter but not special in terms of draft stock. others are much less kind. While i would like to get help at safety, I think FA is the best way to go or your probly over drafting a mediocre talent.
Scott & Pace have their deals guaranteed for 2012, they're here next year for their full price which probably means they're both starting. However the Jets have enough problems across the board that they can go BPA at all their draft picks and if a good ILB prospect pops up in the early rounds then they could conceivably pull the trigger.
This post reminds me of an unrealistic Christmas list written by a poor kid who eats pop tarts for dinner
Barron has issues matched up against quick receivers in the slot. He seems to be fine against big possession receivers and tight ends, at least from what I've seen of him. Go on youtube and do a search. There are plenty of full defense vids out there, not highlight reels but every play the Alabama defense made in a given game. If you watch him you see that the issues in coverage are when he winds up on a quick receiver and gets burned. Mostly the NFL has slot receivers covered by a nickel back. He shouldn't have to cover Wes Welker. His job will be to cover Gronkowski or Hernandez depending on how the Pats line them up.
Well, that's that - if there is a sure-fire safety prospect available at either of the day 1 picks, I would be all for it. On top of that, however, I would like to see Tannenbaum actually drafting players in position of need instead of trading them away. Specifically, I'd like to see Tannenbaum draft from 3~6 round picks: 1 OL every year 1 DL every year 1 DB (Safety then CB) every other year 1 WR every other year 1 LB (OLB and ILB) every other year. Jets are dangerously thin at the aforementioned positions, yet this FO keeps failing to restock the depth. I hope Tannenbaum learns his lesson from this year's debacle.
As long as we get rid of Smith, Hunter and Schottenheimer I dont give a shit what happens cause it can only get better from that point!
